  1. In Belfry's advantage: They've been there. They're much less likely to make mental errors due to "nerves" or "trying to do too much".

Belfry's (possible) disadvantage: IMO, Region IV is weaker than in '03 and '04. Is Belfry's run through region play as indicative of their ability this year ? Have they been "pushed" to a competitive fine edge ?

  2. Who will make the longest road trip this week? I will be on the road 4 1/2 hours one way to watch Belfry and Russell! Who can top that?

    With all due respect...

Take U.S. 52W --> KY40W (at Kermit) --> KY645N (at Inez) --> U.S. 23N (at Ulysses) on to and through Winchester Ave. in Ashland to Russell.

    The trip shouldn't take more than 2 1/2 - 3 hrs...

If I weren't out of town this weekend, I'd get one of you Belfry folks to pick me up coming through... :D

  3. It was BRILLIANT. That is what Champions are made of...

Also, it was a no brainer based on the loafing that FC was doing around the line of Scrimmage at the time... They all thought punt...even I did as well as the rest of you.

Great Call! My favorite is critics that like to talk about a call being crazy and stupid because they would not do it. It takes balls and that what wins big games.

    ;)

So what's the correct situation ?? Did OCath catch Ft. Campbell with their drawers down in the process of changing personnel or what ?? This is the first mention of this kind of thing....

  4. That was the gutsiest call I have seen in a long time, considering it was 2nd qtr and only down by 5. This was an amazing game all the way around. If you would have told me the night before the game we would have 5 turnovers and still pull this thing out, I would have laughed in your face. The Catholic kids are truly amazing. Coaches also did excellent game planning for this. :thumb:

    ...

With all due respect, I don't think kudos are in order for OCath's 4th and 2 call that deep in Aces territory that early and behind by that little.

The call "working" is the only thing that keeps a call like that from being labelled a "bone-headed brain-dead foolish call" by EVERYone...

But IMO, the positive outcome doesn't make the call any smarter. The coach plain and simple took a dumb chance that happened to come out roses (unless the situation has been described inaccurately).

    :sssh:

  5. Bell County's ground game was non-existent (minus-3 yards), but the Bobcats (10-3) connected on 17 of 37 pass attempts for 106 yards. (From the Herald-Leader)

The passing yardage is far from impressive, also. Less than 3 yards per attempt won't get it done. Sounds like Rockcastle's "D" had it all tuned in !!

    Quite impressive... :thumb:

  6. Johnson Central has been making some smart moves over the past couple of years that will put them in a great position in the 15th Region for years to come. Upgrading and expanding their facilities shows long-term confidence in the baseball program there.

    That confidence is well-deserved!

It also shows the $$$$$$ is there to spend... ;)

The field was already far above "average" for the region.

  7. Lynn Camp lost two games by one point, and at the end of both games had a field goal blocked.

It looked like the last extra point for Lynn Camp in the Paintsville game was just kicked too high on the ball. There's not much margin for error for a straight on kicker that uses a toe strap.

Just like a golfer that tops the ball, it looked like the kicker didn't keep his head down. It's VERY easy to do. You gotta feel for the young man. That's a LOT of pressure in that situation.

There's a lot of teams outside the soccer playing areas that have a rough time developing place kickers from scratch.

  8. The primary reason I was interested in this was because we could go to a 9 game regular season. Most teams would play game #10 as a first round playoff game. The reason a 9 game regular season appealed to me was that we could back up the season 1-2 weeks to avoid some of the heat.

The heat and concerns that go with it are not being mentioned much anymore if at all regarding six classes. But, originally, that is what made me think it might be worth looking at.

    Yes... I like it.

I'd take 1 or 2 weeks away from basketball and add it to football to stay with a 10 game season, though.

From P-burg's perspective, the 6 "classes" make no difference. We're STILL in a 7 team district and forced to play 4 games against opponents that rarely give a competitive game...

  9. How many Paintsville teams do you have much of a recollection of past maybe 8 to 10 years ago?

    j/k

I think I agree with gish's statement - the '01 Tiger team had more overall talent. This year's team is pretty close with skill players, but the former team was better in the trenches.

Admittedly, I was no Paintsville fan through that time. However...I've always been a hard-core football fan and have kept up with most of the area teams (and I'm certainly old enough to have a recollection ;) ).

  10. Come on ther now oneijoe, there is no way you are going to turn this back around and point something at me . The crowd last night for a playoff game was just plain pitful considering it was a playoff game, and Paintsville players deserve much more than what they are getting.(and you know it) You can talk it up , hype it up, spin it up,all you want. I have been around more Tigers games in a span of a lifetime than you may see in the rest of yours. I am what is called a native. So dont even think about going there. The plain fact is you should be appreciative that so many Johnson Co. people showed up to support YOUR team (goes to show that we are the good guys) and I certainly dont detect that on your part. Thank you, Milburn for acknowledging and thanking us for our presence.

I personally have a vested interest that plays on Memorial Field every friday night (just as it has been for many years), so again, dont even think about trying to flash something back in my face. My interests have certainly played a vital and important part in the history and success of Paintsville athletics. Are you able to make that same claim yourself? I'm much more qualified to make any comment about anything regarding this conversation than you will ever be.

BTW, the sparseness of cars in the parking lot that I loan out every friday night for the Big Blue crowd speaks volumes about the following that they now have. It didn't used to be that way , what has happened? Thank god, I dont have to rely on collecting admission to keep the doors open.

Again good luck and best wishes to the Tigers against Somerset.

Boy... do you have me WRONG !! Heck, I wasn't even trying to "pull chains", let alone "flash something" in your face. :sssh:

I was in NO way being critical of you, Johnson Central, or anything. I was just giving my take on why the crowd size at games now is less than many yrs. ago. I was trying to figure out the answer to the question you asked earlier and just repeated, "It didn't used to be that way, what has happened?"

You should KNOW that back then, Paintsville was really "the only game in town" that Johnson Co. had for the fall sport. Now, with the renewed interest in football at the other Paintsville high school, "county" fans show less interest in "Tiger football". Saying that is not a slight to Centralites, it's really only natural for it to happen.

As far as Central fans coming to the Paintsville game... I'm GLAD to see them - the more the merrier !! (I'm also for Prestonsburg fans coming...and Magoffin Co. fans...and Lawrence Co. fans...etc...) I like to think there are true FOOTBALL fans from all around that want to see as much of it as they can before that crappy indoor sport begins.

    :thumb:

  11. Beat me to it, BrewDog. :D I guess the difference in Class 1A and Class 3A should now be a little more evident.

I just have a question Milburn. Where were all the Tiger fans at tonight?

Second round of the playoffs and it looked like a ghost town. I would guess that Lynn Camp outnumbered Paintsville fans by a bunch. I would think that TigerTown USA would support its team a little better than what I saw tonight, especially during the playoffs.

I was definately shocked, I expected a huge crowd. You guys should be ashamed for not coming out and supporting your team.If it wasn't for JC fans in the stadium to watch the Tigers , it really would have been embarrassing because there was a bunch of us there.

Good win Paintsville and good luck at Somerset.

For years and YEARS most of the county fans decided to be Tiger fans during football season. After all, who could blame them ??

It's sort of funny that you critique the Paintsville following when, in the past, Paintsville was Johnson Co.'s only truly competitive team.

LOL... the only thing missing from the "big crowd" you were expecting is the part of the county crowd that quit following football last week. Those same folks used to not call it quits until Paintsville lost.

    :bunny:

  12. Way to hold on Tigers! Nice effort by a gutty Lynn Camp team. Everything was left on the field tonight.

It's just like old times.... Tigertown, USA!!!! ;) Or better still... the debate has been laid to rest as to who that "One Team" is that everyone is always talking about... in this "OneTeam One Town" kinda place.

Good Luck next week! Go Big Blue! :thumb:

    Goodness, MD...

After the GREAT game out there tonight, you have Prestonsburg on your mind for some reason ?!?

    ;)
