  1. BluegrassPreps.com 9th Region Week 9 Review and Rankings: So hard to believe, but here we are beginning the last full month of regular season games in the 9th Region before district tourney time begins. There are a few seeding games that still need to be played, and then we'll see the bigger picture of who will face who in their respective district tournaments. In the 33rd District Conner will face Ryle at home to complete that districts' seedings. Presently Cooper leads the district at 6-0, Conner is presently at 3-2, Ryle is 1-4, and Boone County is 1-5. In the 34th District, Dixie Heights is 2-0 with games still to be played with Villa Madonna, and Ludlow, St. Henry is 2-1 and has a huge district battle coming up with Lloyd at Lloyd on Feb. 1, Lloyd is also presenty 2-1 in district play so the Lloyd/St. Henry game has huge ramifications regarding who will face Dixie in the 34th District tournament. Villa Madonna is 2-2, and Ludlow is 0-4. In the 35th District, Covington Catholic is 3-0 and finished with their district seeding games, Holy Cross is 1-1 with a seeding game coming up this week at Beechwood who is 0-1. Holmes is 0-2 and will finish out their district seeding games next week against Beechwood. In the 36th District, Highlands is 2-0 with back to back games this coming week at Newport Central Catholic on Feb 4, and at home against Bellevue on Feb. 5. Newport is 1-1 with a big win over Newport Central Catholic, and still needs to play Bellevue and Dayton. Newport Central Catholic is finished with district seeding play at 2-2, Dayton and Bellevue still need to face off to finish out their seeding games. The Holy Cross Indians saw an end to their All 'A' Classic run at EKU in the quarter-finals losing to Breathitt County from the 14th Region, 75-59. The Indians played the nightcap game two nights in a row following OT games each night, and not tipping off until 10:15 on both nights, and it was nearly midnight before either one of the their games had completed. Jacob Meyer and Javier Ward both had uncharacterisitically off nights, and Meyer coming off of a tweaked ankle, and them playing the late game two nights in a row can make one wonder how all this played into Holy Cross not having exactly the best of games. For the 2nd week in a row the almighty Covington Catholic Colnels lost to a state powerhouse, last week against Male, and then this week they took one on the chin with a loss to Ashland 71-60. This Week's Rankings: 1). Covington Catholic - (18-4) This week saw the Colonels take care of business with St. Xavier (OH) 68-48, then lose a tough one against state powerhouse Ashland 71-60. We will likely see the Colonels drop another couple of spots in this week's state rankings. CovCath has a busy week ahead with 3 games, first at Simon Kenton on Feb. 1, then at Oldham County on Feb. 3, and a home game with Desales on Feb. 4. 2). Cooper - (18-3) The Jags just keep on winning. This past week they beat Simon Kenton 58-49, then beat Western Hills from the 11th Region 59-57. Cooper only has one game this coming week against Elder(OH) on Feb. 1. 3). Dixie Heights - (13-4) The Red Colonels won a big 34th District seeding game against Lloyd 53-34 this past week. They have 3 games this coming week, first at Villa Madonna for another district seeding game on Feb. 1, then travel to Independence to face Simon Kenton on Feb. 3, then finish out the week with another district seeding game at Ludlow on Feb. 5. 4). Highlands - (15-6) The Bluebirds got in two wins this past week, first against Bishop Brossart 94-61, then against Boone Couny 91-61. They've two 36th District seeding games this coming week, first at Bellevue on Feb. 4, then at Newport Central Catholic on Feb. 5. 5). Lloyd Memorial - (17-4) The Juggs went 2-1 this past week, first with a 34th Distict seeding loss to Dixie 53-34, then a win over Newport 47-39, and an easy win over Ludlow 63-33. Lloyd has a big week ahead, first with a huge 34th District seeding game at home against St. Henry. Then they face Simon Kenton at home on Feb. 4. They then host Belmont (Dayton, Oh) on Feb. 5. 6). Conner - (15-6) The Cougars beat Beechwood this past week 81-62. They'll finish out their 33rd Distirct seeding games this week with a home game against Ryle on Feb. 1, then travel to the Hill to face Newport Central Catholic on Feb. 3. 7). Holy Cross - (16-7) The Holy Cross Indians saw an end to their run in the All 'A' Classic with a quarter-final loss to Breathitt Co from the 14th Region, 75-59. First they beat Sayre from the 11th Region in the first round 85-51. A real exciting win for the Indians this past week was a huge 35th District seeding game against Holmes 89-64 without the services of scoring phenom Jacob Meyer who was out with a tweaked ankle that he received last week in a game against Lloyd. This game gave them the confidence of finding scoring elsewhere, and Javier Ward had a big game himself, scoring 40 points. The Indians have 3 games this coming week, first at home against Ludlow on Feb. 1, a 35th District seeding game at Beechwood on Feb. 4, and then finish the week hosting South Oldham from the 8th Region on Feb. 5. 8). St. Henry - (10-7) The Crusaders beat Boone County 75-71, then beat Bluegrass United (Lexington, Ky) Home School 69-67. They have a huge 34th District seeding game at Lloyd on Feb. 1, then a home game with Holmes on Feb. 4. 9). Boone County - (12-10) The Boone County Rebels went 0-3 this past week, first with a loss to Scott 70-59, then a loss to St. Henry 75-71, then finally a blowout loss to the Highlands Bluebirds 91-61. The Rebels have a busy week ahead with a game at Holmes on Feb. 1, then travel to Williamstown from the 8th Region on Feb. 3, then another hike to Iroquois from the 6th Region on Feb. 5. 10). Ryle - (10-13) The Ryle Raiders went 2-0 this past week, first with a win over Trimble County 86-42, then a win over Gallatin County 64-53. They have a 33rd District seeding game at Conner on Feb. 1, then a home game against Augusta on Feb. 3. 11). Beechwood - (7-12) 12). Holmes - (8-14) 13). Newport - (6-13) 14). Newport Central Catholic - (6-14) 15). Dayton - (11-9) 16). Villa Madonna - (6-12) 17). Ludlow - (9-11) 18). Heritage Academy - (6-11) 19). Bellevue - (2-16) 20). Covington Latin - (0-13)

  4. *Teams on this list with any losses are still undefeated against Kentucky competition. As of 1/24/22 there are 3 undefeated teams. Region 1 McCracken County - (15-1) Region 10 George Rogers Clark - (17-1) Region 12 Pulaski County - (19-0)
  5. BluegrassPreps.com 9th Region Week 8 Review and Rankings: -We're 8 weeks into the season, and in my estimation the most significant thing that we learned this past week is that Lloyd is no joke. Up until now I've been a bit back and forth on them, and wondering if they could live up to the hype, and this past week they resoundingly proved that they can. They pretty much demolished each of their 3 opponents this past week. First over NewCath 77-47, then beating Holmes 78-55, and the biggest statement win of their season so far beating Holy Cross 89-71. They have a very balanced starting 5, and Jeramiah Israel has been living under the radar as one of the best players in the region. The word is out now, and everyone knows that there ain't no sleeping on the Juggernauts. -After being the first team in the region to take down the Highlands Bluebirds, Dixie Heights turned around and lost a shocker to Beechwood 60-57. -Covington Catholic lost their first game of the season to another Kentucky team in losing to Louisville Male 73-68, likely dropping them a bit in the rankings. Here are this week's Rankings: 1). Covington Catholic - (17-3) The Colonels this week took care of the Holmes Bulldogs 91-46, beat Walton Vernoa 102-62, beat Madison Central 68-52, but lost to Male 73-68. They've two away games this coming week, first at St. Xavier (Cincinnati) on Jan. 25, then at Ashland Blazer on Jan. 29. 2). Cooper - (16-3) Cooper continues their winning ways, and have now won 10 or their last 11 games. This week they won two 33rd District seeding games, first beating Conner 61-55, then Ryle 52-45. The Jags are now finished with all of their district seeding games, and are 6-0 in the 33rd District. This week Cooper plays at Simon Kenton on Jan. 25, then a home game with Holmes on Jan. 28 3). Dixie Heights - (12-4) After being the first team in the region to take down the Highlands Bluebirds, Dixie Heights turned around and lost a shocker to Beechwood 60-57. Since it was just last week that they beat Highlands, I will keep the Red Colonels ahead of them in the rankings. Dixie plays Lloyd in a big 34th District seeding game at home on Jan. 25, then another home game with Conner on Jan. 28. 4). Highlands - (13-6) The Bluebirds went 2-0 this past week, first beating Dayton in a 36th District seeding game 90-60, then beating Breathitt County from Region 14, 86-68. The Birds have 3 games this coming week, first as home against Bishop Brossart on Jan. 24, then they host St. Xavier on Jan. 28, then they travel to Boone County on Jan. 29. 5). Lloyd Memorial - (15-3) As stated in my notes above, Lloyd did a lot to raise their stocks this past weeks, and seriously put their name on the map. They dismantled Newport Central Catholic 77-47, took down Holmes 78-55, and then in their biggest statement win of the season convincingly beat Holy Cross 89-71. In that win against Holy Cross, Freshman phenom E.J. Walker scored 23 points. They have a solid starting 5, and Jeramiah Israel is truly and incredible player. Garrett Vogelpohl is stepping up more and posting up more shots with accuracy. Don't ever leave Teyon Neale wide open becasue he will knock down 3's like it ain't no thing. To round out the starting 5 is the ever reliable Zaire Monroe. Conner only beat Holy Cross by 2 so I had a hard time not bumping Lloyd up to the 5th position. They've truly earned it. This coming week they have a big 34th Disctrit seeding game at Dixie on Jan. 25, then they travel to Newport on Jan. 27, then they head on down to Ludlow on Jan. 29. 6). Conner - (14-6) The Cougars went 1-2 this past week, first losing in a 33rd District seeding game to Cooper 61-55, then losing on a last second shot to Lawrenceburg IN. 62-20, then finally beating South Dearborn (Aurora, IN) 63-53. They've two away games this coming week, first at Beechwood on Jan 26, then at Dixie on Jan. 28. 7). Holy Cross - (14-6) The Indians beat Campbell County 89-85 after fighting back from being down early, then lost to Lloyd 89-71. Towards the end of this game, Jacob Meyer left the game after tweaking his ankle. I've not heard anything on his condition, but hopefully he'll be alright, and ready to go for the All 'A' Classic at EKU this coming week. This week the Indians face Holmes at home on Jan 24 in a 35th District seeding game, and then on Jan. 27 they head to the McBrayer arena at EKU to play in the nightcap game at 9:30 against the 11th Region All 'A' Champs, Sayre. 8). Boone County - (12-7) Boone County continues to improve and impress going 3-0 this past week with a 33rd District win over the Ryle Raiders 76-74, then beating Beechwood 77-63, then a big win over Model 74-41. The Rebels will have a busy week ahead with 3 games, first a home game with Scott on Jan. 25, then they travel to St. Henry on Jan. 27, then a home game with Highlands on Jan. 29. 9). St. Henry - (8-7) The Crusaders went 2-0 this past week with a win over Bishop Brossart 56-55, then a blowout win over Newport Central Catholic 76-45 where they showed just how improved they've become since the beginning of the season. They have two games this coming week, first a home game with Boone County on Jan. 27, and an away game with Bluegrass United (Lexington, Ky) Home School on Jan. 28. 10). Beechwood - (6-10) The Tigers had a big win this past week over Dixie Heights 60-57, then lost to Boone County 77-63. Beechwood has 3 games this coming week, first at Newport on Jan. 25, a home game with Conner on Jan. 26, then they travel to Aurora IN to face South Dearborn on Jan. 29. 11). Holmes - (8-13) 12). Ryle - (8-13) 13). Newport Central Catholic - (5-13) 14). Newport - 5-11 15). Villa Madonna - (5-11) 16). Ludlow - (8-9) 17). Dayton - 9-8) 18). Heritage Academy - (5-9) 19). Bellevue - (2-14) 20). Covington Latin - (0-11)
  6. *Teams on this list with any losses are still undefeated against Kentucky competition. Covington Catholic lost to Male 73-68 As of 1/23/22 there are 3 undefeated teams. Region 1 McCracken County - (15-1) Region 10 George Rogers Clark - (17-1) Region 12 Pulaski County - (18-0)
  7. *Teams on this list with any losses are still undefeated against Kentucky competition. As of 1/22/22 there are 4 undefeated teams. Region 1 McCracken County - (14-1) Region 9 Covington Catholic - (17-2) Region 10 George Rogers Clark - (16-1) Region 12 Pulaski County - (18-0)

  9. While I’m smack dab in the middle of the 9th Region, there are 4 teams (25% of the 10th) from the 10th Region who are from my neck of the woods who regularly play teams from the 9th Region, so much that they sorta feel like one of ours (and they used to be), and ever since those 4 teams have been in the 10th Region I can only count the one time they held their 10th Region tourney nearby, and that was when it was at the BB&T arena in 2009. Literally the entire 37th District is from Northern Kentucky, and while Holmes is a team in the 9th, they have a very large facility capable of having people spread out during a pandemic, and it’s right here in Northern Kentucky close to the teams in the 37th District where none of those 4 teams have a large enough facility to comfortably hold the tourney, so they looked at their neighbor from the 9th’s gym, and saw an opportunity to hold the tourney in a large decent facility. With all of that said, I’m not seeing how doing so, since it’s the 37th’s turn to host it, is such a travesty considering that it’s being held close by to the 4 teams in the 37th district allowing fans from those four teams to finally not have to drive so far to cheer their favorite team on.
  10. My god this thread is exhausting, and with that said I'm a happy as a pig in mud that the 10th is being held at Holmes this year because it's litterally a block from my pad, and I'll get to see a team like George Rogers Clack when otherwise I'd have to drive the miles to see.
  11. Another game that factored into my thinking was that Cooper beat Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy 66-63 in overtime, and Highlands beat the next night the very same Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy 91-56.
  12. I hear what you’re saying, and I thought about that. With Dixie beating Highlands, that was a big statement win. Cooper did indeed beat Dixie by 2 points on a neutral court. Cooper is scheduled to play Highlands, and Dixie back to back in mid February so right before tourney time we will really get a good idea of how they match up with each other when it really starts to matter most. Both Cooper and Dixie, and even Highlands for that matter are pretty close, and maybe even too close to call. I try to look at their whole body of work, and how they are presently playing. To avoid listing the rankings as 2a, 2b, and 2c I just have to go with my hunch when they’re so close. One game with Cooper that stands out with me is a one point win over Lloyd, the same Lloyd who collapsed in their game against Campbell County, building a 20 point lead only to score a mere 6 points in the 2nd half, and ultimately losing to the Camels 59-57. Lloyd indeed has the talent, but at present are a little inconsistent. Cooper gets it done with defense, so they often have wins in the 40’s, and a win is a win so that’s just their style, and they’re good at it. Without doing the math, Dixie tends to average about 60+ points a game, but of course were held in the low 40’s when facing Cooper. I think that an argument could be made either way, and you wouldn’t be wrong. I just think that Dixie has a more explosive style than Cooper, and has the ability to score in bunches, and so does Highlands. With that you could say that Cooper is the team that can control the tempo and force a more low scoring affair with either Dixie, and Highlands. As you can see I could literally go around and around and around trying to justify one choice over the other, and at the end of the day I’d still lose sleep on it.
  13. I saw this video, and it looked like it went in, but I think you're right, it rolled around the rim, and came out. Differnt tweets that I read said that it had gone in including this tweet, so with that I just assumed that it had considering is sorta looked like it did, plus when viewing it I didn't watch in full screen. Blowing it up it looks like it rolled out. https://twitter.com/859Insider/status/1481080875643293697?s=20
  14. Billy Wogenstahl earned "Player of the Game" in Dixie's 77-72 over the Highlands Bluebirds.
