Well the youth for Oldham just got a whole lot younger. Heard today that McRoberts for Oldham County has quit the team. McRoberts had 21 points last game he played v Henry County and was averaging 14+ per game. This one is a head scratcher if true but certainly a huge loss for the already youthful Colonels. Not sure they have the firepower in their younger levels to replace what he brought. This one doesn't make much sense. Not sure how long Knightlinger is out for. Hate seeing seniors battle injuries so hopefully he is back soon!

A fairly tight game throughout but controlled by Kenton and tied as late as a minute to go in the third. The 4th belong to SK as they pulled away for a 13 point win. I watched via live stream and it was cutting in and out so it wasn't very clear. I don't have a box score but Oldham could not stop SK drives which opened up the outside for Sk. SK is very well coached and deserved the game. Oldham was without their best athlete in Jakobi Mcroberts and potential starter Brooks Knightlinger is still out with a severe ankle injury. Injuries happen , and the Colonels already extremely young are going to have to find a few plug and play pieces to step up to fill the voids. Congrats to Simon Kenton for a good win.

Unconfirmed but hearing Boogie has enrolled back at CAL as of today. Huge blow for the Bruins if true.

Absolutely! Once they get their guys back/eligible and have a full roster it will certainly help HC. The Holland kid played in the JV game last night. He will definitely help with depth and handling pressure once he is eligible, but they were down 20 something to Oldham's JV after 1Q. HC did battle back but lost in JV as well. Not saying OC are world beaters at all but they start multiple freshmen and guys who are getting their first real varsity minutes this season plus have a potential starter out with an injury who has not played so far this season. HC has 7 seniors and 6 of them played last night. It's a long season and HC has the talent needed to turn things around and make a run in the postseason especially once they get their full roster eligible and healthy. Should be a fun year in the 8th region. Thanks for commenting!

Oldham led from start to the finish, and wore down Henry county who was without their point guard, #3 that kind of makes them go. It was a VERY ugly game but Oldham used the momentum of a 4th qtr Ty Bryant alley oop dunk to put the final nail in. Oldham was led by Jacobi McRoberts 20 points , Ty Bryant 20 and Kye Bowens 19. Henry county had trouble getting into their sets even though they had a size advantage inside. I don't know if Henry`s point guard would have made up for a 30 point difference had he played, but they would have been more fluid on offense no doubt. Oldham showed their youth tonight, and Will Hinkle did a great job at getting some timely drives and buckets to settle them down. Had Oldham played this way last night against Spencer it would have been a long night for the Colonels. They showed their youth tonight but still managed a strong win. If Henry doesn't get their point guard back soon they will struggle.

I just watched a half of this game. Moore is not a bad basketball team at all and X just decimated them. X has more length and athleticism than last year, and maybe a few more shooters to go with those athletes. I can't see many Kentucky teams being able to match up with them.

Yes, man its so difficult to predict any games these days. I am sure ill miss way more than two. "styles makes fights" as they say and different teams match up differently with each other.

Led by a balanced scoring attack ( unofficial) Freshman Matt Withrow 23 points , sophomore Kye Bowan 15 ( 13 first half), and Frosh Ty Bryant 15 points, Jacobi McRoberts 10 and Will Hinkle 12 points Oldham pressure wilted Spencer throughout the duration of the game despite Sam Searights (sp) 27 points (21 in the first half). Oldham got the ball out of his hands in the second half throwing doubles at him, and slowed him in the second and Spencer just struggled against Oldham's relentless pressure. Sr potential contributor Brooks Knighlinger (sp?) (6-3 215) is out with an injury and did not participate for Oldham. Oldham is coached by Hall of Fame Coach and over 700 wins career Chris Renner, and Chris has not forgotten how to coach. I am not predicting anything more from this squad than they are going to be scrappy and play hard, but I told you all last week they are better than predicted. This is just one game, and Spencer will be just fine as well.

I was at the Oldham County/Bullitt East scrimmage last night. Oldham won going away in four quarters. 99-72. They ended up playing a fifth quarter that was lop sided in Oldham's favor as well, but both sides subbed frequently in that quarter. I don't have the box sheet, but tried to manually keep some stats on Oldham`s side. Freshman Ty Bryant had an off shooting night, but rebounded well and hit a few threes and a few mid range jumpers and layups to finish with 26. This old school player would love to see him initiate contact more and get to the foul line more than he does, but he is a very nice player. Jacobi McRoberts played a terrific game giving East fits defensively, and also driving for mid range jumpers and layups. He had at least 20. Kye Bowan started hot the first qtr getting 8 as Oldham led 32-17 after one qtr. Kye showed his long range from deep at least twice in the game hitting long range threes from 25 plus. The piston and driving force for Oldham's offense was Will Hinkle whos 10 pounds of off season muscle added to his frame has done wonders to his game. He went anywhere he needed to go against East and made great decision with the ball in his hands, as well as playing pesky perimeter defense. Oldham's defensive pressure gave East trouble all night and created run outs early and often. Oldham is still working their football kids back into the rotation which should help them down the road. The schedule is brutal, and Oldham started two true freshman and a sophomore last night. With the narrow loss to 6th regions tough J-town last week and last nights bust up of East, Oldham is coming out of the gate nicely. The future is bright at Oldham, but if last night is an indication, the present might be a little better than the prognosticators are thinking. Bullitt East looked like a team still trying to mesh their football kids back into basketball shape. By mid season Couch , who is a seasoned and very fine coach will have them playing good ball. I don't know the names of the BE Kids but they have two very solid cat quick guards that do a very good job of getting paint touches and kicking to teammates for threes. They also can finish drives very well. You could tell Oldham's pace just caught them off guard, and when you start down 17 after first quarters makes it very tough to gather yourself and get back in the game. They showed flashes of getting back in the game. Couch lost 7 seniors last year so he is still trying to put all the pieces together. You also could tell his football kids are just not in basketball shape as of yet. Couch will get them where they need to be my mid season. problem is they play in the 6th Region so the sooner the better. Both teams played with great sportsmanship which is always nice to see!

Oldham County scrimmaged Jtown last night. Jtown 106 Oldham 102. Played 5 or 6 quarters. A lot of scrimmage games going on this weekend. Eastern beat South Oldham by 3 and South Oldham beat Evangel by less than 5 ( didn't see the final score). Eastern had a late run and beat Oldham co by 8-10 after it being very close the whole game. Oldham started slow against Evangel 17-6 early but fought back and took the lead with about 3 to go on an and one by Brooks Keitlinger (sp?). Evangel used it huge size advantage and retook the lead to win by 2. Oldham had a chance to win it at the buzzer but missed a contested three at the buzzer. Oldham was without a starter and their starting center missed the Eastern game as well as first half of the Evangel game. Jacobi McRoberts another potential starter missed both games for Oldham. Strong games for freshman Ty Bryant, and Matt Withrow got a nice lift from Will Hinkle who was out with an injury all summer. Will seems to have gained about 10 lbs and ran the point very well for Oldham. Jr. guard Jackson Sawyers went 4-5 forom 3 in the first half. Evangel seems very young at guard, and that will hurt them in Jefferson county but they have some real size down low. They have a nice 6-8 kid down low that does work, and really rebounds nicely and can score around the bucket well. Evangel under veteran coach Larry Miller seems to be very well coached, and their kids seem very coachable and play very hard. As Eastern progresses I think they can make some noise this year in the 7th. You can tell Coach Morrow has put some things n to get the ball inside to their big fellas, and they are vert nice athletic players. Eastern Guards take care of the ball, pass very well and play hard. I have not seen alot from outside from them in the 3-4 games I have seen them this summer. That will be something to watch when the season starts. all games very competitive and well played. Refs are working out the kinks a bit, as its practice time for them as well. But those guys all did very well with one of the supervisor on hand to tutor and help. hope this is enjoyable..

I agree Nikeman , but some of this basketball culture change ( me over we) is why Europeans are catching us if not surpassing us. I am not blaming Moreno or Boone in the least, because I have no ides why they didn't play. I just hate seeing Indiana mop the floor with us most years. Of course they are about double us in population so they should have better players.

I watched quite abit of summer league this week. thought I would share some tid bits with you all. Eastern has two big kids, one looks 6-9 ish and the other 6-7ish - Coach Morrow hasn't had time to put anything in yet, but when he does Eastern is going to be a problem. They beat Shelby by 6 or so, Shelby doesn't have much talent but they have a nice guard (#11) who can shoot it from deep and a kid about 6-4 that plays his butt off. Shelby plays very hard, just not a ton of talent. When Eastern gets their sets in, they are going to be a very very solid team and everyone knows Morrow can really coach. Watched Oldham beat South Oldham by 7 and play St X to a 2 possessions game. it got chippy and they called it with less than a minute to go with Oldham down 5 with the ball. Fellas don't sleep on Oldham. They play at a pace that alot of 8th regions teams are going to have trouble with. They stood toe to toe literally with St X. Oldham has one starter out, and started two true freshman ( not hold backs like alot of teams 14 year olds), a sophomore , a junior and one senior. They have taken ahold of the new system, and the toughness of their Coach Renner and they are going to be a problem in the 8th. Obviously North is the favorite and that probably won't change, but Oldham is going to cause people fits with their style of play and pace and athleticism. Ty Bryant is a future star , little soph guard named Kye ( don't know his last name) can shoot it from anywhere, and another emerging Freshman Matt Withrow folks are going to hear about. Oldham beat Holy Cross who is definitely rebuilding by almost 50. Beat Desales by 12 or so, but played like 15 kids in that game. Oldham beat Moore who seems to be in a rebuilding mode by 25 or so, and Valley. Valley has a nice 6-6 kid, but they just don't have any depth nor any guards. Oldham played mostly Jv kids and won by 30 ish. South Oldham was without two of their starters, but play at that great Pace that is going to still give the 8th region fits. These kids know Simpsons style and they just play so well together, and they can shoot it from all 5 spots. The Siakum (sp?) kid is still raw, but he is growing into his body and is going to be a force down low for them. They beat Holy Cross by 40 plus, who is going to struggle in the 6th region, but will be just fine with their two really nice guards playing the class A teams that they will play mostly. South lost to Oldham and Oldham controlled the pace and the game, but South was without two starters. I expect South to be in the thick of things once the season begins. Desales doesn't have a ton of talent or size, but they play very hard and are very well coached. This coach knows what he is doing and he will bring these kids' along and make them competitive. Whitfield is improving over the past five years or so. They lost to Holy Cross by 3, but it was a back and forth affair. Whitfield has a competitive coaching staff and you see that in how hard their kids play. Neither team is ready to take on the top of the 6th region, but both teams play very hard. didn't get to watch Spencer county, but heard mixed reviews on them. Watched Fairdale, and they look in mid season form. Ferlandez big 6-8 kid is going to be an issue for everyone who plays Fairdale. The Stinnett kid is a set shooter who doesn't move much, but he can really stroke it from anywhere. Fairdale has such length and athleticism at Guard that they are going to give everyone fits. I watched them play a way over matched Meade county team and beat them by 50 plus. Have not gotten over to see Ballard yet, but hear great things about Sophomore Baron Clay who is going to have a break out year this year. Heard from a good source he had 25 against Jeffersonville In. in Ballard's 13 point win. 6-10 True Freshman Mason Grivna is a name to really keep an eye on at Ballard.
