They each have a common loss too.  SK took an absolute beat down by CCH, Ryle on the other hand made it a decent game.   Ryle should absolutely be ranked over SK.

That's true, but I'm always willing to forgive one game.  You could also argue that Simon Kenton played Beechwood very close and that same Beechwood team took CCH to the brink of defeat the next week, so maybe the SK loss to CCH was just an off game for them.  Again, it's why I'm not necessarily a big proponent of common opponents unless it's glaring.  I will say, as a whole, Ryle has played a more competitive schedule overall than SK even though Ryle's four losses this year have each been by 2+ scores.

Calpreps has this one Male by 29. I thing Bullitt East defense can keep them in the game but Male has very good defense and going to be tough to score on them. The most points Male has given up is 20 against both St. X and Trinity.

This will come down to ability to run the ball and stop the run for BE.  The difference last year was BE, unlike year's past against Male, was able to both run the ball in both games (249 YDS on 46 carries in 1st game and 132 YDS on 33 carries in 2nd game) and able to be effective enough defensively against the run in both games, especially in the 2nd half of the championship game.  If BE's offense can eclipse the 100 YD mark and the defense can limit big plays, BE has a puncher's chance in this game.  If BE can't run the ball effectively, it has the potential to be a long night.  Of note, BE was missing 5 starters on defense last week due to injury, including 3 of 4 starting DL.  Some will be back this week and that will help.  There is one in particular that is 50/50 to play and if he does, it will be a big boost to the Chargers and will most assuredly help them against both the pass and run of Male.  Male will have to game plan for him and account for him at all times.

Make no mistake, Male is favored in this game by at least 2 TDs and deservedly so, but just like Male, who has this game circled in red ink on the calendar, looking for revenge, etc., BE is also playing for something that means something to them.  They're playing for respect.  Almost everybody doubted them last year.  Same thing is happening again this year.  No, there is no Travis Egan, Mason Gauthier, Cam Brogan, etc. this year, but there are still some very talented kids on this team that are looking to prove they can play at a high level as well.

  3. The Bullitt East Chargers take the 20 mile trip to Preston Highway this Friday for a rematch of the 2022 Class 6A state title game with Male Bulldogs.  The 7-1 Chargers come into the game on a six game winning streak and winners of 20 of their last 21.  They currently rank 3rd in class 6A in both scoring offense and defense.  The 7-1 Bulldogs head into Friday night as winners of their last five and a #1 ranking in the class 6A BGP and the Courier-Journal Media Poll.  The Bulldogs currently rank 1st in class 6A in both scoring offense and defense.

This game is for the district title and right to host the 1st two (and probably three or more) rounds of the playoffs at home.  Will the Chargers pull off another upset and take home their 2nd straight district title while running their winning streak over Male to three? Or will the Bulldogs exact revenge and keep rolling towards a class 6A state title as the prohibited favorite?

Ryle ranked over Simon Kenton is ridiculous!

Overall, I’m not a fan of common opponent comparisons unless it’s glaring.  In this case, both have wins over Conner, Great Crossing & Campbell Co. by similar margins.  It appears both teams are fairly even.  Best part is that Simon Kenton gets to prove you right this Friday….or prove you wrong. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  5. I have no problem with all 5 suggestions, but I would also throw in something else.  I would eliminate districts & find another way to determine playoffs.  I like the idea of conferences like Indiana has, where teams can be in the same conference but different classes.  I don’t necessarily like their blind tournament draw for their sectionals though. For the most part, districts in football just aren’t competitive overall, especially in the lower classes.

I wonder how many teams those states have in each class, I assume it is many, many more than we have in Kentucky.

On the expansion, my memory is foggy but I thought it was because the coaches/schools wanted more classes and more playoffs.  I think it was a sign of everyone gets a trophy and coaches get to pad their resume culture invading Kentucky High School Football.

Indiana has 317 teams that play football spread out over 6 classes.  Their top class, 6A, has 32 teams just like KY, however they start their 6A playoffs a week later than their other 5 classes, but they all end at Lucas Oil on the same weekend.

    Stats:

    Rush Yards:

    Douglass 175

    Station 177

    Pass Yards:

    Douglass 117

    Station 120

    Turnovers:

    Douglass 0

Station 2 plus 3 turnovers on 4th down.

Darion Talbert for Douglass had 210 all purpose yards. He was a difference maker today. Trenton Cutwright was big for the Defenders today. I will say these two will meet at Douglass in a few weeks in the playoffs.

I think there’s no doubt they both make it to round 3 of the playoffs, but good old RPI will determine if they meet & where or if one of them get Trinity instead.

@TimeWillTell I expect something similar to the OC vs Henderson game. I don’t see North Hardin keeping pace with the Aces but they will score some.

OC will score at will with their passing attack.  I would not be surprised to see them put up 50+ on NH.  NH struggles with passing defense, but they’re fairly decent against the run, which is why they hold a team like Central Hardin to 15.  Boykins, in my opinion, is probably the best senior receiver in the state & quite possibly overall.  If you get to see the game live, you’ll get your money’s worth watching him.

Congrats to a great group of Sr's.  Last regular season home game.  Injuries have decimated the team this year, but they keep fighting.  Proud of them.

Hate it for some of those seniors lost to season-ending injuries.  They were key pieces to the defense, no doubt.  Proud of the younger kids that have stepped up though.  The varsity reps will do them & the program good going forward & into next year.

I don’t know much about this game but I’m looking forward to next year’s game when I finally get to watch a game at the historic MC venue. With a new turf surface things may have changed but I’m sure the Death Valley atmosphere should be everything I’ve heard about for years.

It’s a good atmosphere.  I really like the upgrades they have done over the course of the last few years, including the retaining wall & landscaping.

  11. Imagine how a team like Meade County must feel this year.  If they were still in district 2, they would have had a chance to advance to round 3 of the playoffs this year.  As it is though, with now being in district 3 instead, they're more than likely looking at a 1st round matchup with Trinity and an early exit.  That's a tough break.

As far as N. Ky, doubt there will be anyone left after three rounds.

Simon Kenton gave up 50 and 58 to CovCath and Beechwood and then 36 to Great Crossing right? Male might score 70 on the Pioneers in the second round.

Let’s say the 1 seed from the 6A NKY district does survive the 2 seed from district 4 in the 2nd round, then if things workout where all other teams win their 2nd round playoff games as expected, the final 4 from the East would be Trinity, Frederick Douglass, Bryan Station & the either Ryle or Simon Kenton.  I would agree, there aren’t many scenarios where Ryle or Simon Kenton would beat any of those other three.  I know FD & BS are from the same district, but I put both in the west final four because whomever is the 2 seed will almost certainly beat the 1 seed from District 7 in the 2nd round, which will more than likely be Tates Creek.

Bullitt East, Bullitt Central & North Bullitt play the round robin for The Bullitt Cup.  If somehow all three teams end up 1-1 after the round robin, the winner is the school with the greasiest point differential in that year’s series.
