If they win this game and all their district games, yes. A win vs SK looks great but it doesn’t matter if they can’t get over the hump and beat Ashland. Ashland is the win they have to get to be considered a 3A title contender.

Neither team really will be easy to get a read on until they have late season games. Breathitt playing Paintsville and West Carter playing Russell are both games that should really sort out the strength.

If WC's defense continue to shut people out in running clock games they are going to be hard to ignore though.

I agree that Russell and Paintsville are the biggest test for both of those schools. However, if both WC and BC go undefeated in district play WC should jump them in my opinion. District 8 is just tougher than District 7. 

Could a convincing road win over Shelby Valley move WC to #5? Murray and Danville games are also intriguing.

LCA has more impressive wins than Somerset so far this season but Somerset has to remain #1 until they are beaten.

Really good look for beechwood to lose by 2 to Cov Cath. Bad look for Cov Cath to only beat Beechwood by 2.

If Beechwood upsets Cov Cath they are hands down the clear cut #1 in class 2A to me. A win over the defending 5A state champions would make it impossible to be anything other than #1. Just don’t see any way that happens. Somerset will be #1 in 2A all year assuming they stay healthy. I don’t see anyway they lose a game this year. I’m more interested in seeing when/if West Carter can jump Breathitt County. Sloppy performance for Breathitt last week and West Carter played nearly flawless. If WC can have a convincing win over a 4A could they jump into the top 5? Also, how far would Mayfield fall if they were to start the season 0-2? Lots of questions in class 2A right now outside of the top 3.
