BGP Pick 5 Contest: Playoff Edition
This is two contests in one. Below are five games with assigned point values and all you have to do is pick the winner of every game. Guess all five correctly and score 15 points then you win a prize from the BGP Store! It is important you play each week because at the end of the playoffs, whoever has tallied the most points, will win a grand prize!
The format for submissions must be as you see below:
5 point game winner
4 point game winner
3 point game winner
2 point game winner
1 point game winner
(Failure to submit in this order will result in a score of zero for the week)The deadline for all entries is 5pm EDT Friday.
*****************************************************
The Round 1 games are as follows.
5 point game - Hopkinsville / Franklin Simpson
4 point game - North Laurel / Collins
3 point game - Taylor County / Paducah Tilghman
2 point game - Berea / Dayton
1 point game - Sayre / HarlanThis thread is for contest entries only. All other posts will be deleted.
5- FS
4- Collins
3- PT
2- Dayton
1- Harlan.

This will be one of the better games imo. Do the Tigers have what it takes to slow down the Franklin-Simpson wing-t?
Do the Wildcats have what it takes to slow down stud WR/DB Mercer for the Tigers?

Matchups like Barren County at Henderson County for a playoff game should never happen, This is a predictable train wreck. Henderson County scores 60-70 points in this game. Barren County is one of the worst 6A teams in the state.
How about decrease the number of districts and have districts with 6-8 teams. Then take only the top 2 teams in each district for the playoffs.
0-10 Teams like Oldham County and Lafayette make the playoffs? Really!
And how about we insert a human element into the rating process for playoff seedings like the AP poll?
Increase the district teams & decrease playoff spots? Why would you do that?
I'm for giving the district winner a round one bye & taking top 3 from each district.

Week 1 of the playoffs are usually filled with running clocks and blowouts but there are a few intriguing round 1 games in the Western part of Kentucky this week. These are the games that stand out to me. Feel free to add your thoughts on other round 1 games to watch from other parts of the state.
McLean at Caldwell
Taylor County at Paducah
Hopkinsville at Franklin Simpson
Glasgow at Union.
I think there is a strong argument you can make that all 4 road teams COULD win these games this week. I wouldn’t say any one of the 4 are favorites but the Taylor County/PT game & the Hopkinsville/FS jump out to me as tremendous round 1 games.

He does, plays safety for them. He’s a very good open field tackler, and very good at being in the right place. With that said, he’s much more explosive on the offensive side of the ball, he’s got elite speed and balance and breaks a ton of tackles.
He’s a really good back, who I figure will hold quite a few D1 offers by the time he is a senior. Kid ran for 2000 yards last year as a true freshman, and would have done the same this year if he wasn’t injured for 4 games. Taylor hasn’t taken a loss in a game that he has played the entire game yet. He honestly makes them that much better.
I need to go check him out. Sounds like a big time ball player.

I doubt the Mercer kid is any better than Peyton Smith. He’s as good as any back I’ve seen. Should be a big challenge for PT.
Mercer is a WR/DB. Uncoverable. Notice I said a guy who dominates on both sides of the ball. He is usually the best player on offense & defense every game. Does Smith play defense for Taylor?

I know an outside backer, inside backer and a defensive end is out. Idk the the fourth player but either way next man up and I honestly don’t think they would have made that big of a difference. But do I think you should be the head coach, you have way more football smarts. I just don’t understand the play calling with the backs having success, why does he force the pass? Is it because he was a former receiver? Is he trying to get the Qb stats up? He needs to take accountability on these losses it’s not all on the kids. I think we may have hired the wrong Crittenden county coach, seems the defensive coordinator is doing pretty well for himself.
Paducah had 75 players with none going both ways to Hopkinsville 34-35 players with quite a few going both ways. Looked to me like the Tigers wanted it more than PT last night.
PT has talent and they have some very good coaches but something seems off. If PT runs the ball 55 times last night they win the game. Hopkinsville couldn’t stop them when they did that but they kept playing with fire by throwing the ball and it bit them.
I still think PT has a run ahead of them because nobody they play is going to have a kid like Mercer from Hoptown to dominate the game on both sides of the ball. Especially early on in the first few rounds.

I fully expect a good battle. Unfortunately, due to a change of plans at the last minute (today), I will miss being at my first game this season. I hope to catch a few minutes of it here and there as it goes along.
I think the PT depth will wear down the Tigers in this one.

Hopkinsville (4-5) at Paducah Tilghman (4-5)
So many similarites between these two. Both teams have defenses better than the stats would suggest, mainly due to untimely turnovers and poor decisions made by the offense. Hopkinsville is allowing 20.1 p.p.g. while Tilghman is allowing 18.22 p.p.g.
Hopkinsville was an underdog in the opinion of most in this game last season and ended up winning the game 34-6. Hopkinsville has won 8 of the last 10 against Tilghman.
PT seems to have found a formula by just handing the ball off to White since the Malachi Rider injury and I would expect more of the same. Jack James has made better decisions when it hasn't been expected that he complete a pass on every down.
Mercer has been the Tigers biggest weapon on offense, accounting for nearly 62% of their receiving yards on the season and 6 of the 8 reception touchdowns.
Do the Tigers hand Tilghman another loss and force them to 4-6 for the 2nd consecutive season or does PT have enough to get back on the winning track against a team they could use a win against?
I did not know Hopkinsville had won 8 out of the last 10. This is a good WKY rivalry. I would have never guessed that disparity in the last 10 meetings.

Logan most definitely can pull the upset here. Huge game for them for RPI purposes. 4A in the west looks like it will be Warren East, Spencer County, Logan County, & Louisville Central in the quarterfinals.
South is dealing with injuries but they are still south Warren. I think this will be a very very good game.

Clock runner. 43-7 Mayfield.

Glasgow & Taylor County will have Union & PT on upset alert. Those are not your typical 3 & 4 seeds.

Poor Christian County. They almost look like a middle school team. Also there is only about 50 people sitting on their side of the stadium and that’s including the band.
It’s a shame to see how they have fallen. Having 3 coaches the last 3 years doesn’t help matters.

No score at the end of the first. BE has the ball 1st and 10 at the Male 6.
Impossible lol.

Big time win for the Gators. Lofton is a stud!!!

Hopkinsville grinded out a 30-6 win tonight to secure the #3 seed and set up a first round matchup against Franklin Simpson in a few weeks.
The bigger story is Hopkinsville was without Stud Ath #1 Mercer & Sophomore standout #2 Jackson. Both are expected back next week.
The FS/Hoptown game will be an interesting one in round 1.

Then that change has recently happened and if Thompson was the one calling the plays against Henry Co seems like there are some problems.
Pretty sure Coach Thompson has always called plays since he has been a HC.

I think PT gets it done. Union is a tough, physical football team but I think PT needs this game more if that makes sense.
If PT doesn’t come ready to play then it will sound alarm bells imo.

Henry County (TN) and Scott County sound/look about right to me.
No where near imo. Henry County is a TN power. They would beat Scott County by 3-4 touchdowns.

Maroons have a punt return for a TD & blocked punt inside the 10 to set up another score.
The Tigers out gained the Maroons 215-185 but could not get it done.
Tigers drop to 2-5 (0-2 D1) while Maroons improve to 5-2 (2-0 D1). Tigers are free falling and the Maroons set up a district championship game next week at Logan County.

What kind of job is this? Facilities? Seems like Adair has athletes but never can consistently win.
