  1. One of the biggest old school rivalries from the old 3A is renewed for this week before playoff dustup.  Ryle coming off a huge battle for the district title losing to Simon Kenton, and CCH blowing out Conner last week.  Not sure how last weeks games affects this one, but there's no love loss between these teams and no one wants to come out of the last game flat, so expect a good one in Union.  This game can be seen live with streaming audio and video on The (859) Sports Radio!!!

I don't think so on the White Hat.  I admit the rules in all levels of football confuse me but in my opinion that was a safety and the right call.  Plus, CCH was still up 21 - 19 then until Charlie Noon did more Charlie Noon things.

Kick to Noon and you get what you get. Seen it all year.  Best special teams player in a long time. Mel Grayesque.

  3. I think one of the oddest trend reversing in all of sports is 15 straight losses by CCH to HHS then 9 straight losses by HHS to CCH. This trend ended tonight.  I was on the air for all 15 straight and to this day can’t believe that rivalry couldn’t produce a CCH win all those years.  Just as amazed at the 9 straight. What’s more likely another streak or finally back and forth ?

  4. Wow what a game and all I was getting was score and turnover updates while we were on the air with NCC at Dayton.  Can someone explain to me what happens if HHS loses to Cooper next week? Oh and you can see that game on 859 Sports Radio!!! I think HHS, CCH and Cooper could all be 3-1.  So to me it seems like 1,2 and 3 seeds are not decided yet.

A win by CCH on 10/14 would be 10 in a row.

Which is one of the more impressive turnarounds in a rivalry I have ever heard in any sport, considering I think Highlands win streak was like 15 from 2007-2015.  Can't begin to compare this to any two teams any sport.  Also, HHS is in the biggest state championship drought in their history, which I think is 9 years.

  6. Big 5A 5th district game Friday with Conner headed to Union to take on Cooper.  The 3-3 Jaguars are really on the cusp of breaking out.  After an opening round loss to George Rogers Clark, who were just beaten by Campbell County 21-20, Cooper has a 13-10 loss at Ryle and a 14-7 loss at home against CovCath.  They have wins over Dixie, Campbell Co and Madison Consolidated in Indiana.    Cooper also looking for some payback as their season ended last year at home in the playoffs to the Cougars.    Conner is 2-5 and were just dismantled by the surging 5A 5th District Highlands Bluebirds 55-0.  Their other 4 losses are to Henry Clay, Campbell Co, Ryle and Dixie.   The Cougars have wins over Boone County and Scott.  With an October 21st game Cooper at Highlands, and the regular season matchup of the year Highlands at CCH on 10/14, there's still lots to be decided in the 5th District.  This game will be streamed live from Union on The (859) Sports Radio along with the Cooper at Highlands game.

  7. I hope people who watched our broadcast appreciated the efforts to block the sun with our homemade camera shade made out of a papa Dino’s pizza box and Home Depot paint stick.  My cameraman bill Bartlett did a commendable job of putting up with me leaning on him the first half.  (859) will always go the extra mile.

  8. Wow what a fun game to Broadcast.  You can catch the archive here.  I thought a huge play was first and goal at the 1 in the 3rd when HHS decided not to run Benke and ended in a pick. Let’s not forget SK leading rusher from last season Lawson was in street clothes.  I feel this district is HHS to lose.  CCH will have problems with Noon and Benke.  Geisler and Matteoli will only get better.  Good combo.  I also made an observation looking at the press box with the state championship years.  HHS is in their longest drought ever of 8 years.  Crone clearly the top QB in NKY and a huge threat to run.  Surprise of the night the Bleir kid from SK.  No one has talked much about him before Friday.  They will now. Wow.

  9. Fun game to broadcast on (859) Radio.  Two things that stood out were the number of players who cramped up for LexCath and I don't think there was 1 for Ryle.  Also, seeing Wasik in the press box to get his player of the game award from PrepSpin, i would say most Freshman QB's are bigger and look older than this kid and he just went toe to toe with a good 6A defense and didn't flinch.  He threw 3 TD's and no picks and I think around 16-21.
