  1. This job will draw a lot of interest. Good School, good community and good talent returning. Russell’s last two hires were young inexperienced head coaches. I believe Russell will go with a head coach that has experience this time around. Hire somebody that can maximum the talent right away. A lot of administrators are looking for those young coach that will stay for 20 yrs. Unfortunately most schools do not allow a coach to stay for 20 years and grow thru their mistakes. (Ex: Russell) For that reason I’m thinking Russell goes with an experienced coach. Of course that is just might opinion.
  2. I have to agree with GOREDDEVILS. I think the District is going to be very competitive the next couple years. Russell should be better as well as Raceland and Greenup Co. it should be fun from a fans standpoint. I have a question for people in the know .... “Was Russell’s last two hires teachers or were they outside of the education field?”
  3. I have/had no dog in this fight so no sour grapes here. I simply stated my belief that administrators need to look at people that understand “Coaching is Teaching” and hire people that know how to teach the game not just have great basketball resumes. I see more and more cases where people with playing experience and AAU experience are getting head coaches jobs but don’t know how to teach the game. AAU Coaches assemble teams of talented players. Very seldom to they teach the kids to be that talented. Those situations where coaches are hired and are not great teachers of the game, usually do not end well.
  4. It will be interesting to see how this hire plays out. I anticipate we will have this same conversation in another 3 or 4 years.
  5. So technically it will be 4 coaches in 6 years. Wow! Do they have somebody in place to take over the program or are they going to hire somebody completely new?
  6. I’m surprised Russell is Open again. Will this be their 4th coach in 7 years? ‘13-‘14. Kidwell ‘14-‘15. Strader ‘15-‘16. Strader ‘16-‘17. Groves ‘17-‘18. Groves ‘18-‘19. Groves ‘19-‘20. New Coach That is a tough way to build a program.
  7. After looking at the KHSAA website, this position looks to be a very challenging job. I went back and looked at the W/L records for the GC girls program since the '98-'99 season. Garrard County has a 48.1% winning percentage (285-308) in the past 21 seasons. They have only had 1 winning season (18-13) in the last 5 years and during that time they have only have a winning percentage of 36.3% (56-98). On top of that they have not had a 20 win season in the past 21 seasons so you have to believe there are some built in problems with the program. Does anybody that know what some of those problems are?
  8. Was this a resignation or was he non-renewed?
  9. I think Coach Brown’s resume is impressive as a player and basketball person. But my concern is his limited background in education and teaching. “Coaching is Teaching”. And there is a “HUGE” difference between coaching high school basketball and AAU basketball. Anybody that does not acknowledge that fact has not had a child play both at a high level. Coaching high school basketball is so much for than coaching AAU ball. I’m not saying coaches have to be teacher but they have to understand learning styles, readiness skills, sequence, age-appropriate activities, etc. Educators are trained in those areas. Plus high school coaches have rules, regulations, as well as working with the faculty, grades, coordinating with other sports, etc. My concern is not that Coach Brown is not a good basketball person. My concern is why did administration not practice what they preach. Administers are always the first to say “Education comes First” .... but when they had a chance to follow their own philosophy ... FAIL. But I guess that is my opinion.
  10. I anticipate this job is going to be a tough job. I know they played some younger kids this season but they really struggled to score. With the region being pretty good they may have to go with a younger coach that just wants the experience of being a head coach.
  11. Regardless of who gets the job, I think it is time to fill it and move on. Summer ball is just around the corner and coaches need to get things in place! Whoever is named the coach will walk into a good position. I have always thought WC had the potential to be a great job.
  12. In my opinion Woodford Co. is a diamond in the rough! Good talent, good support and great community!! Too many administers are trying to make a big splash instead of hiring the right basketball coach. Hiring the righ coach is about the kids, making a big splash is about the administration making a name for themself. Woodford Co. is one hire away from being a great program.
  13. Oops! Sorry Coach Turley! In defense of myself I did same I didn’t recognize the name. I’ve heard good things about the talent in the Madison Southern program right now. I’m sure they will be good in the next few years!
  14. I was wondering when they were going to name a new coach. They have some talent returning. I do not recognize the name. Where did she coach before MS or was she an assistant?
  15. I kind of feel the same way about this job as I do the East Jessamine job. I’m really surprised there hasn’t been more movement on getting this position filled.
  16. I don’t believe Coach Biggs is looking for another coaching job but I have been wrong many times before. That would be a good hire but I don’t see it happening. I think this position will take a special coach. Somebody that can relate to the community and begin a special style to the program.
  17. Congrats Coach Thompson! Boyd Co. has been a very good program over the years so he has worked in a good system. Hopefully that translates into success at Lawrence Co.
  18. I can’t believe there has been no news on this position. I have to believe if this was the boys job that progress would have been made on finding a new coach.
  19. Any updates on this post. You would think if the job was posted on Feb. 27th then there would be some movement on getting a new coach in place.
  20. I’m not real familiar with the Madison Southern job but if records are any indication, Coach Simmons did a great job at Southern. She took over a program in ‘10-‘11 that had 2 winning season in the previous 10 years. 4 years later her team is 20-8. Now Southern has won the District 2 of the last 5 years. (‘15 & ‘19)
  21. Well .... if the method of hiring within has been successful for them then you can’t argue with it. I’m not familiar with Woodford past hiring practices so I don’t know how success that practice has been but you have to believe if the administration and community continues to hire within then it has worked for them.
  22. Tall, I think that is a GREAT question. You would hope they are looking for the best coach ... Period! I would think Woodford Co. has a chance to make a splash with a big name coach. I was just wondering if any names were floating around.
  23. I’m all for giving inexperienced coaches an opportunity to be a head Coach. I just figured this job would draw the interest of some good veteran head Coaches. I think Woodford is a good job!
  24. When will interviews start for this job? I would think there are some good coaches interested in this job.
  25. Will this job generate very much interest? Region 11 is one of the toughest in the state.
