  1. Since this thread seems to be including grammar mistakes as well as incorrect idioms I have to throw my biggest verbal pet peeve out there. People using the past participle "seen" in place of the correct past tense "saw". As in "I just seen him last week" or "I seen it at the grocery store". It makes me cringe every time I hear it. Since moving away from the NKY/Cincinnati area I've heard it less frequently, but I still hear it occasionally in the more rural parts of Illinois so I know it's not just a regional thing.

  2. The fact that Negan has been informed that something is going on really bothered me. It doesn't make any sense for that character to have that information and just sit on it. They clearly have the men and guns to go in and not only kill Rick but every single person in Alexandria if they wanted to. There is no logical justification that I can see for him not to instantly go and do that the second he even hears a whisper of a rebellion forming.

  3. If I had to list the people most likely to be involved in order:

    1) Emily

    2) Seth (the fact that he is so many people's favorite, including mine, means he is probably going to be involved. Also he's the highest paid actor on the show, I doubt they would pay that much for him if he wasn't going to have a little more than a strong supporting role)

    3) Mike aka SS agent

    4) First Lady

    5) Aaron- too obvious to be him

I've been saying that Seth is going to have a bigger role in this whole thing than he has now, but I don't think he's going to be a bad guy. In today's sensitive climate it would be an awfully risky move to make the only brown guy in the cast who happens to be incredibly likeable turn out to be a terrorist.

  4. It seems he had this condition diagnosed by a mental health provider before hand, so in that sense it seems to be a plausible defense. My question would be, legally speaking what responsibility does somebody diagnosed with that condition have in avoiding situations like these? Similar to laws that many states have requiring someone with HIV to disclose their medical condition to sex partners, does someone with this condition have to disclose it to bunk mates?

  5. I am approaching it unscientifically. But when I am in shape....I'm not quite there right now... I am tall and lean, and my BMI says I am overweight. I do not believe it accounts for lean muscle mass...at least when I have seen it applied at health events.

With respect to the overweight vs normal cut off those numbers are likely very different. I haven't personally seen any studies on that so I can't say for certain but I'd guess BMI probably is much less accurate at that threshold. However, for calculating obesity it is much more accurate which is what the study I posted above was looking at.

  6. I will come of a critical here, so be it. And sometimes this applies to me as well.

A lot of people are overweight because they never deny themselves anything, and many of these same people will not make themselves uncomfortable with a bit of exercise. I notice at work....the overweight people seldom take the stairs.

It is very much a lifestyle choice. I remember many years ago when I was still playing soccer, and I was playing in an indoor tournament. We had just enough players to field a team, and I was playing defense and midfield at the same time. There was a lady on defense with me who was chubby...not meaning it critically...but she couldn't cover a lot of the field on a good day. However, between games she complained of being hungry, which we all were after two games already that night, and she goes and gets a quarter-pounder, large fries and soda to wolf down before the last game. I knew she would have to pretty much stand in place the last game, and it struck me how people cannot deal with a little hunger. A healthy snack would have been one thing. It was a rough last game.

    The BMI is useless BTW.

BMI has it's flaws but it certainly isn't useless. It has good specificity i.e. if your BMI says you're obese you're very likely obese (true positives) however, it's lacking in sensitivity i.e. you may actually be obese even if your BMI doesn't say you are (false negative). Therefore, an analysis using BMI to calculate percentage of the population that is obese is actually incredibly accurate.

Accuracy of Body Mass Index to Diagnose Obesity In the US Adult Population

  7. I agree that tonight was a good episode, but I'm starting to get concerned with the slow pace we're progressing at we might be in store for another cliff hanger like they had last season. It seems like there's only going to be time to build up to just before the attack on the Saviors without getting any payoff until next season.

  8. Maybe it was directed at them maybe it wasn't, we neither one know. But my point is that this same school had a USA night of their own. If I'm an opponent school, I wouldn't think they would be offended if we did the same thing.

See post#25, do you think each of those were planned to offend the opponent? Those again, are the night's held by the school that is now all upset.

I couldn't possibly begin to speculate on the subtleties and inside jokes of Des Moines high school athletics. I don't know the history between these two schools, and I don't know the history of the "offending" school's past student section antics. My guess is there has to be something there for this to be an issue. I do know that high schoolers often do things on their own that aren't necessarily what the administration thinks they are. I suppose you're right in a legal sense. There is no way to prove this isn't a giant coincidence, but using common sense and the not so distant memory of how we were in high school it's much more likely that this was intended to mock their opponent. I must reiterate my initial point, which is that that is okay. You're supposed to mock the opponent.

  9. Why were they offended, their own school had the same night earlier and no one seemingly said anything.

Well this was pretty clearly targeted at particular school for a particular reason. As a former member of one of the more enthusiastic (perhaps obnoxious depending on your perspective) student sections I can tell you that a good number of our themes were specific for the school we were playing. And we could always count on the handful of people that showed up on the other side line to be swinging their soap on a rope right back at us (that one never got old). That's what student sections do and that's okay.

  10. The confusion lies in that there are three different aspects all at play. There is A. genetic sex, B. gender identity, and C. sexual orientation. The majority of the population have A=B and are attracted to the opposite gender/sex for C. However, any of the three components can be different for a given person. So, it is entirely possible that A does not equal B for a person i.e. they are transgender. Yet they could still just as likely be attracted to either gender with respect to C. If you try and look at the three things as separate aspects of a person that aren't related to each other rather than a package deal it makes it much easier to understand.

  11. Ahhh...the power of advertising and marketing. You create a need or a want, and then fulfill it at a profit. Similar to paying five bucks for a cup of Joe or eight bucks for a pint of "craft" beer. Where do people get all the money for this stuff?

I don't think the craft beer comparison is fair. I can't even put into words how much better craft beer tastes than the generic mass produced Bud's or Miller's. That's not to say I refuse to drink a Bud light. I'll always take beer over not beer, but I'll also always take good beer over cheap watery beer if I have the option.

  12. The US will never reach herd immunity so you might as well accept that. You'll never see 50% of the adult population up to date on boosters. So why should any parent be forced to inject their kids with vaccines when most vaccines have worn off within 2-10 years?

With you being in the health field, I'm not surprised you're in support of vaccines, it's what you were taught by a largely pharmaceutical financially backed system. They teach what they want you to believe.

Arguing with conspiracy theorists is a fool's errand because any cold hard scientific facts can be explained away by them as part of the conspiracy.

  13. When was the last time you got vaccine boosters?

Herd immunity is a myth because adults do not get boosters or get more vaccines. But I'm sure you guys think vaccines last forever. Stupid.

    Vaccines Provide Herd Immunity?

I always have to be up to date on my boosters because I work in healthcare. But you are providing evidence for why maintaining herd immunity is essential. You're literally repeating a point that I myself made in an earlier post. Some people have unknowingly allowed their vaccine levels to be reduced beyond the point where they're effective, so they become vulnerable to disease without herd immunity in tact.

Also, I'm merely trying to educate people who are ignorant of factual healthcare information in a professional manner. The name calling is uncalled for.

  14. Solid episode. I'm not convinced Dwighty whacked his ex wife. I'm thinking he will soon be the new best friend of Rick.

Does Ricks group have an official name? Are they considered to just be part of Alexandria now? Every other group they have encountered has a cute name.

Of course Dwight didn't kill her. She wasn't there remember?

  15. I can't believe more people aren't talking about the utter arrogance and ignorance displayed in Viola Davis' speech. Really, actors are the only profession that celebrate what it means to live life? What about military, police, doctors, other health care professionals, any number of professions where people literally save lives?

  16. I didn't realize this story had gone national. It's been all over the local news here in Chicago since it happened. Very scary stuff, like something out of a movie. The girls deserve so much credit for going down fighting and taking the photo and audio recordings to try and help catch this guy.

  17. Some of us who are wary about vaccines are not necessarily concerned about autism. I posted this in November and will just copy it.......

I have a vaccine injured child. He was 18 months old, received his MMR shot as scheduled. 14 hours later, he had a seizure and quit breathing. I had to resuscitate him while my spouse called 911. It was a known reaction and reported as such by Cincinnati Children's Hospital At that point, my spouse and I had to look long and hard into vaccines and what we want to give to our children. We also had to find a physician willing to work with us. I totally understand "what is best for society", but holding my non-breathing 18 month old caused me to re-evaluate my stance. We decided to selectively and delay vaccines at that point. My kids were never in daycare, so that wasn't an issue. As they started school, our dr would give them a medical exemption as long as we were proceeding with their shots. At 18 and 14, they are "legal" for school (except that my 18 yr old has a permanent exemption from the MMR). As for other vaccines, we research and make the best decision possible. For example, meningococcal is not required, but I absolutely believe it was necessary to give my 18 yr before he went off to college. I'm still on the fence regarding Gardasil for either of my children.

I'm sorry you had to go through that, but your child is evidence of why those who willingly choosing not to vaccinate are putting others in danger. It's rare, but some children do experience real adverse reactions to vaccines. Yours being one of them. Because of that, he was unable to be vaccinated and susceptible to diseases that have been mostly eradicated from our society. However, when people choose to not vaccinate because of false information they bring these diseases back into society putting others like your son at risk.
