Her husband's father founded it. Her husband was CEO for a bit.

Makes you wonder how she made billions.

She was born into and married into them.

Thank you! It's a welcome back actually. I was a member many years ago when the price of admission was cheaper but the layout not nearly as nice.

Supporting charter schools is a decent cause. But throwing lots of money at it is not a qualifier for this position.

 

She would do good to step down voluntarily. Its a low level position (can anyone name the current Sec of Education?) - but still needs someone that has better background.

You bring up a good point, and the cynical side of me is forced to ask what's in this for her? Why does a billionaire, with seemingly no interest in public education and plenty of companies and foundations to fill her time and money with, want to become Secretary of Education in the first place?

Selfishly hoping the show flops so Corey Hawkins' character on The Walking Dead doesn't have to be killed off.

I like how the author just casually slips in that he was arrested for exposing himself to children in the final sentence. That kind of makes you read the rest of the article in a different light.

I went to 16 years of Catholic school and I don't ever remember learning that it was against "Catholic values" for boys and girls to play basketball together. I could see at an older age group you might have some safety concerns, but at 12 I don't see what the issue would have been with letting her play.
