New to this site but but I thought I would give it a try. I guess I will start off by taking a shot at my top 5.
1. CCH - I don't think there is any argument here. With Day, Litzler, Wessels leading a group of 24 other varsity juniors and seniors they're going to be very strong and have a lot of depth. The real question is will they live up to their expectations or yet again fall short.
2. St. Henry - Last years 9th region champs, who lost some very strong players (Dehner, Lannon, Langen) and many more, have a very strong group of underclassman stepping up. Nelter and Sanders will provide a strong offense with Manahan in the mix as well. Where St. Henry will have some trouble is on the defensive side. I believe they have a young back line as well as a new goalie stepping up this year.
3. Scott - They suffer the loss of Treadway, Schneider, Evans, Muench, Keiborth, and a couple more, so they will definitely have to adjust there playing style. With senior Seay in goal who is arguably one of the best in the state and Senior Morgan in Midfield who I've heard is committed to play at Marshall (D1) and several others having good varsity minutes that may just give them enough to win another regional title. My big question for Scott is do you forfeit the skills of Morgan in the midfield by putting him up top looking for him to score? (3rd in goals last year)
4. Highlands - With 7 returning varsity starters I believe this is one of the teams that lost the least. Last year they started off a little slow but I think this year they will come out strong and have improvements made. Senior Gesenhuse will play a huge role in being the leader of this team. Very strong physical player who will be the center of attack. Some other strong players will include Sellers, and Schweitzer. Highlands always puts up a strong fight and I think will turn a few heads this season.
5. Cooper/NCC - Both of these teams suffered many losses and I haven't had the chance to see either play so I'm having trouble placing these two. Cooper loses OPOY and Co-DPOY. O'brien was from what I believe the game changer in the middle for Cooper, and their goalie being the arguably the best in NKY has to be a huge loss . Not sure who the new goalie will be. Junior Adam Snow is a very good player and he will be the go to player for this team, just not sure who will be the supplier. They will need to have some underclassman step up. NCC was a very impressive team last year, I think they suffer the biggest loss of them all. Losing Hensley who was Co-DPOY (also I believe scoring a fair amount of their goals) will really hurt. They also will suffer the loss of their coach and having a new set of eyes on this team may just make this a rebuilding season. They have a lot of young potential that can work something up over the next few years, this season will be interesting. I'm very excited to see them play Scott on Friday. Soccerama should shed some light on this debate.
