Alright, I just gotta weigh in on this one. I have been hearing a lot of talk about the better team not winning. I couldn't disagree with you more on that point. I understand that it hurts too lose when you feel like you have a really good shot at winning but, win you make such comments, it is a slight on your opponent. Now here is what I see that is wrong with the Beechwood philosophy. I thought it was just in the coaches mind until I started reading some of these posts. The problem is, they are still set back in the 90's. They want to have a run first and throw only if needed type philosophy. That works if you have the lead and are working the clock, if you have the talent to cover the spread on defense. There is the problem. The Tigers were not able to defend the spread. I will lay it out like this. Beechwood beat us at the line. They were more physical, much stronger and bigger for the most part as well. The Running backs were about even, with a slight edge to Mayfield, if the blocking worked. The kicking game was an edge in Mayfield's side. The coaching was a definite edge in Mayfield's side. The skill positions, were a definite edges in Mayfield's favor. So, if you take that, Mayfield had three areas in their favor. Beechwood had one. They were pretty well tied on the other. Now, the comments about us taking advantage of the Tigers mistakes being the only reason we won, not true. We were on cruise control up by 11 until the snap gets fumbled by the punter allowing the Tigers to get it at our 4 yard line. This allowed the Tigers to make a game of it. Then we stonewall another drive on 4th down, by sacking the qb. The ref with the worst possible view point flags for a facemask. This allows the Tigers to continue a scoring drive. There is the second advantage off Mayfield mistakes to keep it a game. Had those 2 not resulted in touchdowns for the Tigers, this would have been a 25 point advantage instead of 11. Every time the Tigers mounted a comeback, our boys found a way to stop the comeback and turn it in their favor. That is the mark of a great team and great coaching. So, if you want to hang your hat on being the better team, I will give you the fact that you were better up front. We were better every other place on the field.
