  1. Boone County, Cooper, NCC & Ryle made the championship bracket of the Bluegrass State Games. Cooper gets a first round bye along with Henry Clay implying they are the overall #1 or #2 seed. Matches start at 1:00PM today at KBA in Lexington. Beechwood, Campbell County & Simon Kenton made Flight 2. Highlands & Walton-Verona made Flight 3. Holy Cross is in Flight 4. Bishop Brossart is in Flight 8. Volleyball – High School – Bluegrass State Games
  2. Friday's final results: Notre Dame Academy over Cooper, 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-13). Good luck to the Pandas in the state tournament! All-Tournament team: Anna Marie Houliston - Highlands Faith Cobaugh - Villa Madonna Hayley Bush - Ryle Rachel McDonald - Newport Central Catholic Mikah Freppon - Newport Central Catholic Maria Tobergth - St. Henry Kayla Riegler - St. Henry Morgan Kelly - Cooper Haley Gillispie - Cooper Kaity Smith - Cooper Hannah Colvin - Notre Dame Academy Hannah Talkers - Notre Dame Academy Hanna Knaley - Notre Dame Academy Morgan Hentz - Notre Dame Academy Odd that no one from Beechwood was named. Or maybe they weren't present so didn't announce them.
  3. Wednesday's semifinal results: Notre Dame over St. Henry, 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-21) Cooper over Newport Central Catholic, 3-1 (24-26, 25-18, 25-23, 25-20) Finals will be NDA against Cooper at 6:30PM at Ryle. NDA heavily favored to win another regional crown (IMHO).
  4. Tuesday's results: Cooper over Villa Madonna, 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-17) Newport Central Catholic over Beechwood, 3-2 (25-19, 23-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-7) Semifinals will pit St. Henry against Notre Dame (6:00PM) and Cooper against NCC (7:30PM).
  5. Monday's results: St. Henry over Ryle, 3-0 (25-10, 25-22, 25-19) Notre Dame over Highlands, 3-0 (25-8, 25-8, 25-11) Note: the final has been moved from Thursday to Friday @ 6:30PM.
  6. This was a good match to watch. Even the JV match was fun (Raiders won in three). Someone mentioned H. Bush delivered a missile to one of the Cooper players' heads...it's true, looked like she was stunned for a few seconds. Now I understand why C. Barber wears a helmet! Was waiting in line at the concession stand before varsity match, heard two women say there's a rumor two of the Cooper girls are transferring to Ryle next year. Hmmm, very interesting! Also completely unsubstantiated.
  7. Regarding Cooper, Rebecca Ruppel (#11) should also be noted as an aggressive attacker and solid defender.
  8. I just can't see Cooper being any good until their coaching staff improves. I'm sure they have good intentions but parents with players there have told me they don't utilize their talent very well...some kids on varsity should really be on JV and vice versa. I have no insight into why the setter left but if she was the obvious choice for this year and voluntarily chose not to return it should speak volumes about the situation.
