  1. image.jpg The Polar Bears are definely close contenders for the district like Mason and Augusta. One big thing is that the All A and district will be at the Igloo this year. Possibly playing Augusta at home in All A and District at the peak of the rivalry will be great. Standing room only. Could win their first District since 1999 and first All A region since 1998!
  2. They've been in the weight room and on the field everyday, sometimes even twice a day. Really hoping we have some success this season after all the work these kids have put in! Here's the schedule:

    Aug. 21 - @ Switzerland County, IN

    Aug. 28 - Ludlow

    Sept. 4 - Gallatin County

    Sept. 12 - @ Harlan

    Sept. 18 - @ Bath County

    Sept. 25 - Dayton

    Oct. 2 - Paris

    Oct. 9 - Bishop Brossart

    Oct. 16 - @ Berea

    Oct. 23 - @ Nicholas County

I was really hoping to see rival Pendleton on our schedule..

  3. I see Bracken winning both games. The girls I see winning by 15 or so and the boys winning by 5. For Augusta it will be a matter of handling Austin Crawford. If they do find a near-impossible way to stop him, they have many other threats to worry about. Bracken needs to focus on The Big Three." But do not sleep on the other players or we could get beat by another Clay Grey like performances. The Igloo will no doubt be packed with a district tournament like atmosphere. I'm also looking forward to the battle of the webcasts and student sections! #PBN!

  4. In my opinion, I think that the Lady Bears will be more successful than most people think this season. Coach Kelsch has them in the gym working the dedicated ball club hard everyday. They have a deep talented roster of non-starters. Although most of the starters this year have little varsity experience, I feel they learned a lot during their entire high school career witnessing three district tournament wins. The senior group has 6'0 post player Kara Jones, who has a seen a lot of improvement in the past year. They also have shooter MaKenzie Jefferson, and hard-nosed Jaylyn Miller and Cassidy Collins. The juniors will feature the Lady Bear's leading scorer returning in Bailey Cummins. They also have guard Hannah Deaton, who can get to the basket when needed. They also have post/guards in Cheyenne Taylor and Kyra Berry. The group of talented underclassmen features sophomores who can bring a lot to the table for the Lady Bears this year. They've got a young, talented post player in 6'0 Madison Kalb, who played AAU for Shining Stars this summer. They also have 6'2 Korbin Florer, who you might know from her success in volleyball. Also from volleyball comes a talented shooter in Macy Jefferson, who will be featured in the backcourt along with a quick Catie Rose and freshman Kinley Ruf. I also hear the pep club has vastly improved to give them an extra confidence boost. Can't wait to see the 2014-2015 Lady Bears!

  5. Hopkins played for three years and Crawford, when finished, will play six years if I am correct. Also, am I correct that there was no 3-point line in the Hopkins Era (I'm not for sure what position he played or whether it would have played a factor). Crawford does have the odds in his favor to break the record with a 3-point line and a total of 6 years of playing. Speaking of Bracken County legends, I have heard rumors of an alumni game?

  6. Crawford will no doubt be the all-time scoring leader at Bracken, he is already number 26 in scoring with 966 points, and he still has three years left! Also, the fact that he did not play JV last year helped further improve his supporting cast. Hamilton is someone else they can rely on in the 4th quarter, unlike last year where everybody had to rely on a freshman to do all the work. Hamilton can also get down the floor well and can finish at the rim. Jones has good footwork and a variety of moves under the basket and will be a key role player. Biddle will be a main rebounder for the Bears this year, with leaping ability and size that the team lacks. Todd is the same way but does not have a much of an offensive threat that Biddle has, no one knows for sure if Todd will even start. He may be replaced by Williams or Engnes but who knows, they still need Todd for size. Overall, I think Bracken has a talented team and will be better than last year, with the addition of Coach Miles. The thing they lack is defense and size. The size you can't make up, but the defense you can.
