  1. Last night’s episode was kind of blah. I’m sure the producers had a blast making Drew look like an idiot, but the set up was way too predictable.

I like the way Julie handled John’s departure. She’s holding her own. I like her and Keith on this particular tribe.

  2. I thought the episode was pretty good. The early scene where they were beating with ball bats & slashing throats--that was really tense & the highlight of the episode IMO.

That was one of the most grisly scenes I’ve ever watched on tv – yuk.

I have to bring my lap top to watch the WD to distract myself from such scenes, and still feel haunted the next day. However, the entire rest of family is riveted, and over it immediately.

  3. Really like the Russ Smith/James Quick comparison, brilliant.

Cards’ D is so fun to watch. Do not give up a touchdown all day and fight til the bitter end. The offense on the other hand was generally worse than watching the guy that watches the paint dry.

    Sucked to lose that game.

  4. I thought the book was good, not great. Will probably wait to see it on cable.

I’m with you on waiting til it comes to dvd. I felt gypped after I read the book. It kept me entertained until the last page but I hated the ending!

  5. "WHY WON'T THE CATHOLIC CHURCH JUST TELL ME THAT I'M PERFECT AND THAT EVERYTHING I'M DOING IS AWESOME AND JESUS LOVES ME BECAUASE THAT SONG SAID SO AND IF HE LOVES ME THEN HE LOVES ME JUST THE WAY I AM BECAUSE THAT OTHER SONG SAID SO AND GET OFF MY CASE I'M GOING TO DO WHATEVER I WANT AND NO ONE CAN JUDGE ME."

    - The 21st Century

I think this sentiment has always wrung true. Maybe more evident in the 21st Century.

But the faithful should have a voice… without being judged or poo-poo’d. Hope Pope Francis’s leadership instills greater humility and a greater sense of love throughout the Church, and that we are all open to it.

  6. I would say the current head of the church extols the opposite of pompousness or self righteousness and more and more of the church is imitating his leadership. Now, holding firm to what it believes is the truth and not bending to the ebb and flow of society's relativism makes it pompous and self righteous, than I say continue being pompous and self righteous.

I thank God for Pope Francis every day. And hope I soon see the Church imitating him, like you do.

  7. I first saw this when a Northern Kentucky Catholic high school encouraged donations to the Pope John Paul II Medical Research Institute instead of the ALS Association when doing the now popular ice bucket challenge.

Me, personally, I think it is embarrassing for the Catholic Church and one of the many reasons why people like me choose to be no longer associated with it.

I can totally relate to you on this.

The Catholic Church has been so annoying to me these last few years. I can’t even explain why. Maybe it’s the translation change, maybe it’s my current pastor’s infatuation with old style customs; but lately when the Church makes the news… it feels pompous and self righteous. Yeah I get your stance but I don’t see your humility. Ugggggh. Editorial Note: I’m a cradle Catholic, attend Mass weekly, and don’t have plans to leave. Love the Eucharist, it’s there that I find hope and the truth.

  8. Bad timing. Seems to be a trend with me right now. Among recent examples, just found what looked like a sweet deal on a car on Craigslist. Told the seller I wanted to see it ASAP and locked in on the date/time to meet. Got a text 5 mins before we left that said “sorry just sold the car to someone with the apt right before yours.” The car had been posted a week and someone buys it an hour before me.

  9. Unfortunately I’ve been the biggest whiner today… ha ha

Have to get up an hour earlier…

Have to keep up with grocery shopping and start packing lunches…

Have to keep up with laundry and keep track of uniforms, belts, etc…

With construction in front of my kid's school I’m predicting morning doses of ibuprofen…

In all honesty I know these times are fleeting and precious and will henceforth reframe my attitude and try to catch the excitement.

Thanks for giving me a place to vent Hoops 5…

  10. I really don't see NKU having a football team any time soon. I bet I'll be 50 and they still won't have one (I'm not 30 yet).

And I loved my college experience there without one.

That is so good to hear. NKU seems like a great school with a lot going on, and a good value as well. Some students/parents we've met also say NKU is somewhat more generous with the schollys as compared to some of the other in-state schools. Hope nothing changes in next 12 months (well unless they add football LOL)!

  11. Why doesn’t NKU have a football team? Do you think it will someday? We are not native Northern Kentuckians so I’m not up on the history.

I’m curious since my soon to be high school senior is seriously considering NKU for College. We’ve spent time this summer visiting and learning about NKU and she really likes it. I think it’s a cool school – good programs, would be a good “fit” etc., but would be even cooler with football!!

Sorry if this post belongs in the College Football section.

  12. The Reds' code of conduct (link below) states:

"Major League Baseball and the Cincinnati Reds are committed to creating a safe, comfortable and enjoyable ballpark. Our staff will act to support an environment where:

-- Guests will enjoy the baseball experience free from foul or abusive language or obscene gestures.

-- Obscene or indecent clothing will not detract from the guest experience."

Sounds like you would have been on firm footing to call the shirt to the attention of an usher, who then could have summoned a security officer. If nothing else, security could have told the person to wear the shirt inside out or get the heck out of GABP.

Really wish I had done this.

Thanks for posting this Twotoplace, great to know the Reds have this policy.
