They don't, however Mayer and Maille are currently 8th graders who will attend CovCath next year. They are really good players. I understand they both will be playing for the 16u Ky Colonels this summer.

Looking at the radar map it looks like most, if not all, games will be washed out in NKY. Never know though, there's been games I was sure would be canceled after looking at the map/forecast, only to end up playing.

Anyone know the results of the CCH/Scott and Boone/Holmes JV games?

With a Freshman and Sophomore thread active, I thought I'd start an 8th grade thread. Some are already starting to make a name for themselves playing for their Freshmen HS team. The following are a few names I think will have a strong impact on their teams for years to come. In no particular order; Justin Schlarman - Cooper Brendan Reid - Cooper Logan Beagle - Ryle Manny Henschen - Conner (JV) Brayden Trattles - Simon Kenton Jack Maille - Will go to CovCath

There are some parents who think since their child plays on a "select/travel" team during the HS off-season, they should be playing more often than not during HS. They can't understand how come little Johnny isn't a starter after playing on such a team and after spending so much money on lessons/equipment/travel/etc. They also think that since they've been to 60+ games/season, they know more about coaching the game. If their HS coaches having a different coaching philosophy than what they're use to, it drives them nuts. Most parents understand that HS ball is not the same as their kid's "select/travel" team, and can deal with the differences. Those who expect their HS coaches to treat their kid/team in the same manner as the "select/travel" team he's been on for years are typically not going to be happy. I don't know if most HS teams have a parent meeting prior to the season (ours did not), but I think this would be a good idea for coaches. Though a meeting might not change the attitudes of all the parents, it could do enough to make the season go better for some if they had a general idea of what to expect.

Heard Newport JV dropped out of the tournament. Can anyone confirm this?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s my understanding the freshmen and JV baseball tournament brackets are determined by a blind draw, and the Varsity teams are seeded based on district games. If so, I’m curious to know how the blind draw works. Do they draw names from a hat, or do something similar? Have they ever seeded the freshmen or JV teams? It just seems like the Conner and Cooper freshmen teams got a tough draw. I believe them to be two of the better teams in NKY and they had to “play in” to the bracket, with the winner playing Ryle the following day.

This is my son's first year playing HS ball, here in NKY. I've been looking for a place to get information about other school teams. Though there's a few sites that update Varsity results / standings, it's not easy to find good information about the Freshmen and JV teams. Fortunately, I stumbled across this site a couple weeks ago.....Nice forum with a lot of great info! Was talking with a parent at a recent game and he was wondering who plays who, and when, in the Regional Tournament. Pulled out my "smart" phone, went to my BGP bookmark and voila, all the information about the Freshman and JV tournaments were posted. Made for a nice discussion. BTW, though I appreciate all the information on the tournaments, I'm a visual guy. So I decided to make a bracket and put it up on a website. Done this many times with my son's summer team's website in the past, so it was easy. Take a look HERE. I plan to keep it updated as I get info on game results.
