This has to be considered an upset... Villa Madonna hit four free throws in the final 30 seconds to beat Dixie Heights, 45-42 on Saturday. Sophomore forward Lexie Aytes and senior forward Maria Blom both knocked down a pair of foul shots in the final minute. Those free throws made it 45-41, and the Colonels hit a shot from the charity stripe to make it a one-possession game, but Dixie Heights was unable to generate a shot after taking over with seven seconds remaining. Aytes finished with 15 points and a pair of assists, and Blom tallied 14 points, seven rebounds and a couple of steals. Junior center Liza Tibbs scored 31 points in the Colonels’ losing effort. The Admirals were fouled with two seconds remaining and made one foul shot to extend the lead to two. Brossart was unable to get a shot off at the buzzer. Futsched tallied a game-best 17 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Senior guard Abby Stadtmiller scored 10 points, and sophomore center Emily Schultz chipped in nine points, 13 rebounds and a pair of blocks. Senior forward Rachel Cox rolled up 21 points and added 14 rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals. The duo scored all of Simon Kenton’s points in a 14-3 run to start the game. Owings hit three treys in the first two minutes, and Cox recorded the other five points. After that start the game was never in doubt. The Cougars were led by senior forward Madi Meyers’ 22 points.
