Simon Kenton is definitely for real this season.

SIMON KENTON 87, CONNER 54 – Two Pioneers set career highs.

Senior guard Abby Owings posted 35 points – nine in the first quarter and 15 in the third – and she dished for three assists.

Senior forward Rachel Cox rolled up 21 points and added 14 rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.

The duo scored all of Simon Kenton’s points in a 14-3 run to start the game. Owings hit three treys in the first two minutes, and Cox recorded the other five points. After that start the game was never in doubt.

Good job Pioneers!

I wonder if sk is moving girls up to fast. An 8th grader who weighs 90lbs maybe. Gets knocked down 20 times in jv game and can't play much d yet. Yes she can be good with some meat on her bones. But no need to have this girl playing past freshman levell. Spends more time getting knocked down than playing....

I think that is where the parents have a responsibility to step in!! No matter how talented the kid is if they are not physically big enough, its just an injury waiting to happen!! A young player can only be put in that position if the parents allow it & sometimes the status of playing up isn't worth risking a career ending injury before a real career has been established!! Just my opinion!!

I have watched many girls games this year and I think SK is doing a fine job of integrating the young girls. I have watched Scott and they have several young girls playing. One is ready but the other three aren't even close to being ready. May explain all the issues Scott has in their girls program and why they have only had one winning season in 7? SK seems to have it down from what I have watched

I'm not opposed to moving kids up if the skill level is there but I do think physical size needs to be considered as well. I've seen plenty of teams playing with 8th graders whose talent truly rivals some older players. For the most part these younger players have enough size along with skill that would make you unaware they are as young as they are. I am not familiar with the young SK player mentioned earlier so my opinion is only based on the description given. From her physical description it sounds like her lack of size may be taking away from her advanced skills on the court, especially on defense & rebounding situations!! Coach Stowers is a smart coach & I'm sure he is looking out for this player & knows when to say when!!!

The one year Scott did have a winning season in the last 7? Well that would be last year, starting two 7th graders. Scott's challenge has been a shallow talent pool. That is changing very quickly(come on now, jump in). As FastForward notes, size makes a difference and Scott's young'uns have plenty of that along with the talent.
