Highlands 51 Conner 40

Well the Birds get back to their winning ways, but they almost let one get away. Birds took a 24-12 lead (I think, if not, pretty close to that) into half. They threatened to run away at times in the second half, but Conner would not let that happen. HHS was up 14 late in the third when Conner made their run. Conner started pounding the ball into Meyers and she made it pay off. Not sure how many she finished with, but she was definitely the catlyst in the second half. Conner was able to cut the lead to 2 with around 3 minutes left. It's a good thing HHS is strong at the line or this one would have been given away.

Conner is hard-nosed with Gambrel at the point. Really like her game. She is tough as they come and is clearly in charge of that offense. She is a coach on the floor. I have always liked Meyers. I call her the blue collar player. You are going to know you played a basketball game after battling her all night.

HHS was led by Graves with 15 (really nice all around game tonight), Adler with 11 and Combs with 8 points and 7 rebounds.

My first varsity HHS girls game this year! To busy chasing my boys. Some observations some very nice talent on squad and they sure can show the boys how to hit free throws as by definition they are free! Lost art but girls were impressive. Do they typically play Leigh so far from the basket or was that to bring Meyers girl out? Not fair to judge on one game but they need to finish at the basket! Too many misses in close and take care of the ball. Graves had a very good game. All in all it made for a nice Saturday evening although the gym was hot. Very nice dance routine at halftime. Brings back fond memories of my parachute pants.

Good luck and keep working girls!!
