  1. Shout out to Madi Meire who got her orthopedic boots off at 4 and played the game at 6. Who needs practice?
  2. As Lawnboy pointed out previously in this thread, do you really think these kids with driving licenses are staying home during snow emergencies?
  3. When you make practices voluntary, you shift the risk from the school district to the individual parent/driver. Jefferson County does this.
  4. Dear Mr. Arzen; While I appreciate your response, this policy is simply too unilateral and as such, deeply flawed. This is not merely an issue of competitive disadvantage in which our competitors are allowed to practice on an optional basis while we are prohibited from using our own facilities that OUR tax dollars have paid for. While basketball is in District level Championship play and allowed to practice and play last Friday, Swimming and Wrestling which are preparing for STATE level Championship competition and were not allowed to practice. Furthermore, by allowing competition on Friday, you put athletes that had not been in an organized practice for over a week at risk. Have you or anyone in your administration considered the injury risk from putting unprepared/underconditioned athletes on the field or court of competition? There have been multiple occurances of weather events that have long since subsided by the time after school activities would commence. Execution of the current policy has resulted in too many unneccessary practice cancellations. Regional and State level tournament competition results in invaluable athletic scholarship recruiting exposure. By imposing this policy, your are diminishing the oppertunity for our athletes to be adequately prepared for this level of competition and reducing the exposure that would otherwise be available. I urge you to revise this policy to delegate more of the decision making to Principals and Athletic Directors. Thank You.
  5. I appreciate your email. I am the Director of Student Engagement for our school district and work very closely with the schools and their activities (especially athletics), so I wanted to respond to your email. First off, I can tell you that I am a very competitive person and understand your concerns. I also feel like that the procedures we follow in Kenton County do a good job of balancing the major district priority of student involvement with the most important priority of student safety - when it comes to weather related considerations. I’ve attached a description of the process that is followed when making these important decisions relating to winter events. This was developed last school year and was helpful with the numerous weather issues we had - as it clearly explains what we go through in making decisions. You’ll see that it’s a very thoughtful process that we use. We also allow Principals to make (and have approved) activity requests due to special circumstances. For instance, even though most district events were cancelled Friday evening, we received requests and allowed basketball teams to practice Friday evening, because district tournaments were early this week (and Saturday and Sunday were going to be bad - for snow Saturday and clearing lots on Sunday). These decisions are not taken lightly and we understand the implications involved. It’s similar to a decision to cancel school on a snow day - it is very difficult and we know not everyone is going to agree with it. Again, I appreciate your concerns as we continue to look at the specific activities in the district, along with the implications for weather, as well special requests from Principals to make the best decisions we can for our kids. Tom Arnzen Director of Student Engagement The Kenton County School District
  6. That makes about as much sense as a welfare recipient threatening to commit a crime so that a municipality or state government will have to pay higher costs for prosecution, judicial and incarceration costs in order to extort a higher welfare check! The only people other that ownership that benefit are the seasonal low wage employees and the folks who operate/own the parking garages!
  7. No, absolutely not. No practice, voluntarily or otherwise, no open gym, no shoot arounds, NO NOTHING, but 2 scheduled games since 2/12
  8. It has everything to do with this topic. Did you ask the parents and school administrators that went unfunded during the time of PBS construction? A public municipality building stadiums for a multi billion dollar organization is the WORSE kind of corporate welfare. But I guess in your perspective, it is just a wise investment.
  9. Grant County over Simon Kenton. Could happen. SK denied Sunday practice and compelled to play on Monday.
  10. Its just too easy for you to vilify and squeeze the politically and economically vulnerable isn't it? If we implemented drug testing for members of Congress, how many would fail? I would say it is by far more important for those in decision making roles to held to the highest level of accountability. If you want to screen welfare recipients, fine. Then those receiving corporate welfare should be screened as well!
  11. RCC9 again you take a swipe at everything .. You never learn. Credit and congrats were given to the HHS senior and wished the best in tourney and you can't read that and go on.. Shame on your inability to be mature. Only one will go to State from the 9th Region . and I hop the best for all the teams involved .. I am so over your antics. best wishes to the HHS team and Coaches.
  12. Heard they might move the games back one day originally girls game 1 on Monday game 2 on Tues , Championship game on Thur. If moved back then teams Grant and sk get one practice and WVa and Willstwm would get two in before their game. Still dice week for all.
  13. Denial, denial, denial!!!! Clubhouse , Sentinel. Oh wait, you made so many personal attacks in that thread, it was deleted!
  14. Laugh it up Lwc.. you seem to be getting really good at that icon.. Only wish the best for all teams going forward each Region will have only one winner and all this talk will be for not if the weather doesn't change quickly . That way we all can see the real teams show up in the tourney as we all have become accustomed to all season. Best to all.
  15. My bad, two games,CC & HHS and NO Practice in 9 days. today& Tomorrow makes #9 #10 Then District game on Monday. District play is going to be interesting for everyone.
  16. Now that's funny... Seriously.. you were not there so why the comment... No practice or access to gym in 9 days.. Got to see exactly what expected Flat Flat Flat performance. Congrat to HHS seniors on win in final home game.
  17. Make inclement weather practices optional. That shifts the decision making, and risk, from the school to parents.
  18. A two or three day break, maybe. Not 8 days though. KCSD also has a no practice on Sunday policy whose only exemptions have to be made through an arduous administrative process. KCSD basketball teams will be playing win or go home games on Monday w/o having practiced for a week or more. Some of these teams are(were?) contenders to compete in state tournaments. The recruiting value of exposure in state tournaments is significant.
  19. If a player sustained a season or career ending injury as a result of being pressed into a competitive situation without preparation, I would call that devastating. Dr. Cox-Cruey is trying to live in a risk free world and is ignorant of the risks she is introducing by her policies.
  20. Simple solution. Don't schedule 10th region teams! You've had multiple accounts from multiple programs regarding your region's officiating. Stop the denial and do something about it , or you may find scheduling a bit more challenging in the future!
  21. I fired off this email this morning after all athletic programs were denied practice this week by the edicts of Superintendent Cruey: ______________________________________________________________________________________ Dear Dr. Cox-Cruey; I am writing this note to ask you to reconsider your activity cancellation policy. Your policy of cancelling after school events in the event of a school closure has been devastating to athletic programs district wide. It is specifically devastating to those athletes pursuing athletic scholarship as the majority of programs operate on a policy that is more friendly to athletics. Coaches and administration have an obligation to prepare student athletes for success when they enter the field, court, or class room. This has not been happening as most of the programs that we compete with for post season success and recruiting exposure are practicing on an optional basis during inclement weather. JCSD is one such district that operates with such a policy. In addition to forfeited competitiveness and loss of recruiting exposure, athletes that are pressed into competitive game situations without practice and preparation have substantially more injury risk than those athletes that are prepared to compete. Please do your part to support athletic programs and the pursuit of athletic scholarships district wide. Please amend your inclement weather policy to allow for optional practices. Thank You; ______________________________________________________________________________________ Basketball, wrestling and swimming were all denied practice time this week due to the draconian KCSD weather cancellation policies. Teams were allowed (compelled) to play games yesterday despite not practicing for a week. Swimming and wrestling were denied practice yesterday even though basketball games were allowed. I am asking you to make your sentiments known on this matter to the Superintendent. Her email address is : terricox.cruey@kenton.kyschools.us Thank You! _______________________________________________________________________________________
