The following teams all advanced today to next Saturday. Conner, Cooper, Cov Cath, and I’m not sure who won between HC and Villa.

Wow, wow, wow…what a night in Hebron. The game of the day did not disappoint and neither did Cougars. The Cougars jumped on the Jaguars early as Brayden Thornton makes a beautiful pass from the backfield to Mason Ginn who gets past the Jaguar defenders and finds the side netting to get the Cougars up 1-0 in the first 4 minutes. The game would go back and forth with no real threat of scoring from either team until about 5 minutes left when Benji Araujo’s cross finds the head of Golikia Masoluka for the 2-0 lead for the Cougars which they would take into halftime. The Cougars would generate a few good chances in the second half but Carson Morgan would make some nice saves to prevent the Cougars from extending their lead. With less than 2 minutes left the Jaguars would find the gap in the Cougars defense and get a header past Wagner to make it 2-1. The Jaguars would press hard the last minute and a half but the Cougars hold on for the victory, the sweep of the 33rd, and secure the #1 seed for the district.

Per the scoreboard, the Colonels take a trip down to the pasture of Morscher field and come away with a 3-0 win. Covington Catholic is quietly playing some good soccer and will be top team for this year's 9th Region Tournament which is only a few weeks away.

Per the Riherds scoreboard. Dixie continues to win after starting the season 0-4.

The Cougars celebrated the careers of their 6 seniors tonight and send them off with a win verses Holy Cross. Conner started the scoring with a beautiful cross from senior Brayden Thornton to Benji Araujo who was able to beat the Indian defender and find the back of the net. A little later Grady Noble would make a pass from 15 yards away to a streaking Mason Ginn who would get the ball past the keeper for a 2-0 lead. A few minutes before half senior Micah Bitter would lay the ball off to an open Brayden Cranfield who would bury the ball in the side netting for the 3-0 lead going into halftime. Conner rotated a number of players and had a great chance to score early in the second half off a direct free kick from Ginn to the box that finds the foot of Kellen Faulkner but somehow does not go in. Conner would get one more goal when Owen Mayhew would chip the ball over an Indian defender and find Grady Noble for the goal. Trey Wagner gets the shutout on Senior night and the Cougars took care of business and now look for an epic battle verse Cooper on Thursday at Conner.

Highlands has canceled the game Saturday verses Conner…so no game of the day for 9/21/24.

Another big week of games in week 6. Tuesday Boone County @ Dixie Heights - Dixie has been on a roll, I see them winning this game. Covington Catholic @ Newport Central Catholic - The bully of the diocese makes a trip down to the pasture of Morscher Field. Even with the grass Cov Cath gets this win. Holy Cross @ Conner - Senior night for the graduating class of 2025 for the Cougars. Trey Wagner, Brayden Thornton, and Owen Mayhew should help ensure their night is not spoiled by the Indians of Holy Cross. Ryle @ Highlands - My game of the day. Two programs who know how to play soccer. The Bluebirds are without a nest currently and have been playing games at NKU and this one will be played in Newport. Little smaller field that could perhaps help the Bluebirds put another L in the loss column of the Raiders. Simon Kenton @ Grant County - 32nd District game, the Pioneers get the win over the Braves. Villa Madonna @ Beechwood - The Tigers are quietly having a nice season. I believe they come out on top of the Vikings in this one. Walton Verona @ St. Henry - Walton has given up 26 goals to NKY competition....I look for them to give up 4-5 more this game. Thursday Bishop Brossart @ Holy Cross - The Mustangs take care of business and get the win. Calvary Christian @ Scott -37th District game. I see Calvary winning this one. Cooper @ Conner - Of course this is my game of the day. 33rd District battle! Can the Cougars get the win and secure the #1 seed in the district? Maddox Pemberton is back from an injury and so is Mason Ginn for the Cougars. Since 2019 these teams have traded wins with Cooper getting the last one in the district match last year that knocked the Cougars out. Covington Catholic @ Highlands - my 2nd choice for game of the day. The way the Colonels have been playing, I don't see them having any problems with the Bluebirds in Newport. Grant County @ Pendleton County - Your guess is as good as mine on this one. Ryle @ Boone County - Is this the year the Rebels get the Raiders? I've seen both teams and Boone has some players who can create matchup problems for the Raiders. 33rd District seeding game. Simon Kenton @ St. Henry - Another game for me that could go either way. Saturday Highlands @ Conner - This game was supposed to be played early in the season, but Highlands had to back out due to "Open House" for school. Conner drops out of the Bruin Classic to get this game in with the Bluebirds. Highlands will be ending the week facing Cov Cath, Ryle, and Conner...needless to say that is a tough schedule. The high school season is so packed with games and goes by so quickly. We have 3 weeks left in the regular season and then Districts begin. As teams in NKY start to shorten their benches and get ready for some more district play, here is a recap of the games that happened in Week 5. Tuesday saw Beechwood surprising St. Henry with a win. Conner shutout Boone County. The "Blue" Colonels get a 3-0 win over the Raiders. Dixie gets a big win over Cooper but one of their top players suffers a broken leg and Cooper missing their top scorer. Highlands maintain they are the top team in the 34th District with a win over NCC. Thursday saw Bishop Brossart getting the best of the Cougars who decided to sit their two top scorers over half the game once they both received yellow cards. Cov Cath continued to roll through the 9th region shutting out Dixie 5-0. Then Ryle squeaks by Simon Kenton 2-0. Saturday is for soccer and the Cougars took care of the Camels. Cooper runs wild on Newport Central Catholic 4-1. Dixie beats the visiting Elder Panthers from across the river. Bishop Brossart and St. Henry go to PK's with Brossart coming out on top. Beechwood In all reality, teams 2-10 can beat each other on any given night which has been proven through 5 weeks of the season. Players being hurt, players out with cards, have impacted wins and losses this season.

Per the scoreboard Cooper get a nice win against a tough Thoroughbred team. Cooper will be looking forward to their game in Hebron on Thursday...sounds like it might be a game of the day pick.

The Cougars take care of business today and get the home win. Conner opened up the scoring off a pass from Mason Ginn to Grady Noble who gets a 1 v 1 with keeper and finds the back of the net. Conner would not generate many more chances after the opening goal and would take the 1-0 lead to the half. The Cougars would hold the lead until about halfway through the second half when the Camels have a nice build up, are able to get the ball past the backline and the Camel attacker is able to get a touch on the ball to find the back of the net. With less than 10 minutes left in the game Ginn is able to break behind the backline, receive the throw in, and attacks towards the end line. A couple of nice moves with the ball, Ginn lofts the ball towards the back post, and it finds the head of Parker Coleman to put the Cougars up 2-1. This was Coleman's first varsity goal and came at a great time. Conner would go into defense mode and get the win.

Looking at FB...Brossart beat SK.

Brossart 3 Conner 0 I know Ryle and Boone both win, just don’t know the final scores.

I'm not sure it would've changed the outcome, but one of Dixie's best players from my understanding suffered a broken leg in the Cooper game. I know not having certain players can impact a team.

Cougars travel to Alexandria and come away with a loss. Conner scored the first goal about 10 minutes in off a cross from Brayden Thornton to Grady Noble who took it 1 v 1 on the keeper and converts. The Cougars were looking like they wanted to bounce on the Mustangs and they did. But then the Cougars started to fall apart, Noble receives a yellow card followed by Ginn receiving a yellow card and both players sat the rest of the 1st half and all of the second not to see the field again for the night. Bishop Brossart drew even in the first half off a nice shot from about 20-25 yards out by Runge. Second half saw the Cougars looking out of sort with their top two attackers on the bench. Bishop Brossart receives a direct free kick from about 25 yards out and Runge again is able to find the back of the net to give the Mustangs the lead and they go on to win 2-1. This game much like the Soccerama game was physical and had a total of 5 yellow cards given on the night. Congratulations to the Mustangs on the win. I'm still trying to figure Conner out. The Cougars play Cov Cath tight and lose 1-0, beat Ryle in Union 2-1, beat a decent Boone team 4-0 but for some reason struggle with teams who are very similar to them in style.

Great 33rd district battle tonight in Hebron. The Lady Jaguars were able to score first and also be the first team to score on Conner in 12 games. Conner was able to draw even before the half to make 1-1. The Lady Cougars would find the back of the net again in the second half and the defense would hold the Lady Jaguars scoreless in the second half to win 2-1. Heard some of the polls have the Lady Cougars #1 n the state…nice accomplishment for the program.

Gotta give my Lady Cougars some love on BGP...the girls team is 11-0-1 and have not given up a goal in 13 games. Conner has not had a cupcake schedule either which makes this achievement even more remarkable.

Dixie on a nice little roll with 7 wins in a row now. Big game on Thursday coming up verses the "Blue" Colonels of Covington Catholic who just smacked Ryle 3-0. Looks like Cooper is still without Maddox Pemberton which explains some of their scoring problems lately.

Conner gets the district win over Boone County. Conner gets two goals in the first half from Faulkner and Masoluka. The Cougars come out in the second half and get another two goals from Masoluka and Noble. Boone County had 3 shots that went off the cross bar that could've changed this game around quickly.

This is going to be a big week in NKY soccer. Tuesday Beechwood @ St. Henry - I'm not 100% sure this game is actually happening. They already played each other in the All A with St. Henry winning 2-1 Calvary Christian @ Grant County - The Vikings win this game. Conner @ Boone County - 33rd District seeding game (more like battle). Conner will be without Mason Ginn from what I'm hearing, the Cougars will need to figure out who paces the offense in Ginn's absence. Boone will be looking to get the District win in Florence on Tuesday. Covington Catholic @ Ryle - My game of the day. The Colonels will be looking to bounce back from their surprise loss to St. Henry and will be looking to claim the team to beat in the 9th Region with a win. Ryle will be looking to prove they are still the team to beat. Dixie Heights @ Cooper - Is this game going to be live streamed? If so, I might have to stream it while I'm watching the Conner/Boone game. Can Cooper tame the red-hot offense of the Colonels in Union on Tuesday? Holmes @ Holy Cross - 35 District seeding game to see who gets Covington Catholic. Newport Central Catholic @ Highlands - 36th District game that means nothing as both teams always advance cause they are the only two teams...still bitter about this district. This game will be played at NKU. Simon Kenton @ Walton - 32nd District game, Simon Kenton wins this one easily in my opinion. Thursday Calvary Christian @ Holmes - I'm picking Calvary to win this one. Conner @ Bishop Brossart - These two team don't like each other and they drew at Soccerama. Mason Ginn didn't play in the first match and may not play in this one either. Dixie Heights @ Covington Catholic - My game of the day. The Red Colonels verses their big brother Blue Colonels. The battle of Dixie Highway. This week for Dixie can tell us a lot about their chances to make a regional run. Grant County @ Boone County - The Rebels win this one. Holy Cross @ Cooper - Cooper wins this one. Newport Central Catholic @ Scott - The Thoroughbreds win this game running away. Simon Kenton @ Ryle - Wouldn't it be ironic if the Pioneers win this one. I think they have the players to do it...only question is can their defense hold the Raiders? Villa Madonna @ St. Henry - This should be a win for the Crusaders. Saturday Bishop Brossart @ St. Henry - I'm calling a 1-1 draw on this one. Campbell County @ Conner - Hard to tell which Cougar team shows up on a Saturday. Gallatin County @ Beechwood - The Tigers get the win. Newport Central Catholic @ Cooper - My game of the day. NCC is currently 1-2-0 verses the 33rd District. Can they sneak a win verses Cooper? Scott @ Simon Kenton - These schools should be in the same district/region. Make it happen KHSAA. The Pioneers win this one. Not a NKY team but Elder (OH) come to Edgewood to play the Colonels. I'm not sure what we learned about soccer in NKY this past week. The week ended with a surprise win of St. Henry over Cov Cath 1-0. This is the first win in 10 years for the Crusaders over the Colonels. We saw Conner fall to Newport Central Catholic 4-2. Cooper and Simon Kenton draw 2-2. Dixie Heights laying the smack down to St. Henry 4-1. Beechwood beat Boone County 1-0. Highlands and Brossart draw 0-0. Then Ryle getting back in the win column with a 3-1. I'm not even sure how to rank the teams this week with injuries to key players, coaches perhaps playing deeper benches looking to see who can help them come district tournaments, and just overall craziness of no team standing out yet. 1. Covington Catholic - I know they loss, but they have a good squad and will continue to be tough the beat verses NKY competition. 2. Ryle - Bounced back from one of their worse weeks in years to go 2-1-0 beating both NCC and Campbell County this week. 3. Cooper - They have a major piece of the scoring missing, played some tough team this week and went 0-2-1. I have them here because of their success verses NKY competition. 4. St. Henry - Go 1-1-0 this week with the district loss to Dixie Heights but the region win verses Covington Catholic 5. Conner - The Cougars were missing some key pieces and will get one back next week but will still be without Mason Ginn probably next week too. When healthy the Cougars can challenge for the region, but they have yet to have all their Varsity players available this year. 6. Highlands - They are missing a player too and loss to Cooper and tied Bishop Brossart 7. Newport Central Catholic - Lose 3-1 to Ryle but turn around and surprise Conner 4-2. 8. Dixie Heights - The Red Colonels are starting to put things together. 9. Beechwood - They are just a hard-nosed team. 10. Boone County - Went 2-2-0 on the week. Simon Kenton may be figuring things out to...they go 1-0-1 on the week drawing Cooper and beating Beechwood. Campbell County and Brossart drop out of my top 10 this week...but can be right back in next week depending on some outcomes of big games this week.

9th Region tournament is going to be interesting this year. Congratulations to the Crusaders, first win verses the Colonels since 2014 in the 9th Region final.

Well...I had a freshman basketball coach that use to say "sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you!". Today the Thoroughbreds got the Cougars. NCC comes out and nets 3 goals in the first half. Conner looked out of sorts tonight and it showed in the 1st half. After halftime Conner comes out in the first 10 minutes get a goal from Owen Mayhew. About 18 minutes later Grady Noble tracks down a ball that got through the back line of NCC and scores to cut it to 3-2. The Cougars had the momentum, but NCC was able to counter on a deflection that found a Thoroughbred player open sprinting down the right side to put NCC up 4-2. Conner would quickly score what they thought was a 3rd goal only to be called offsides. NCC has a nice team, good size in the 9 position. You would like to win them all...but the Cougars battled back nicely and at the end of the day, there is really only one game that really matters for the Cougars...the first district match to see who gets to the finals. The Cougars will get Dallas Marshall back Tuesday and are hoping to hear how much longer Mason Ginn will be out early next week.

The Colonels have been on a nice little roll lately. St. Henry has a nice win/loss record but Dixie let them know who is still on top of the mountain in the 34th district.
