  1. Because Herm has reinvented himself while at ESPN and he has turned into a likable guy and people want to see him succeed. We are generally more positive about the chances of people we like.

I can say this with no remorse. There is no one I have loathed at ESPN more than him. The guy loved the sound of his own voice more than anyone ever. He did nothing as a coach to warrant being on so many shows except that he’s incredibly good at flapping his jaws.

If he’s truly gone to ASU, I say good for all other PAC 10 schools and myself as a listener to ESPN radio. Sorry for ASU fans. It won’t work.

  2. When he sang “from the halls of montezuma” with the bucket on his head, I still laugh. Last episode of his from Andy and served as a lead in to Gomer. If you watch the actors next to him, they can’t hide their laughter.

RIP. As some have said, not many of this show are left and it’s sad.

  3. The Bengals D has done a decent job on Ben and company over the years. Problem has been the O. Steelers little banged up in secondary, hoping Andrew has a little time to throw cause GB proved there’s plays to be had right now against them.

Thinking Pitt wins game but something tells me that Bengals have had enough. Hope my hunch is right. VB step up and lead without losing it. Same with Pac.

  4. 30 years ago today (Nov. 28, 1987) CovCath earned its first state title by knocking off No. 1 & unbeaten Paducah Tilghman 16-6 in the 3A finals.

30 years ago today (Nov. 28, 1987) CovCath earned its first state title by knocking off No. 1 & unbeaten Paducah Tilghman 16-6 in the 3A finals. Lynn Ray's Colonels were led by LB Mike Woolf, whose 35-yard pick-six sealed the victory. Tilghman featured Mr. Football Kurt Barber.

What a magical time. I talked to Coach Ray recently about his first title and that team. Told me they were limited on O but a bunch of blue collars. He said the D was big- for the time-, fast, athletic and most importantly, the meanest bunch he ever coached. His words. I know that was just a fun time.

Back then you just hoped they’d win one. Then they won a bunch and it was expected and expectations got stupid. The 06 team brought a little of that magic back and this team has brought all of it back, if they win it. Good luck to all the players, coaches and fans of Cch.

  5. It's kind of hard to feel like Bama is truly the best team in the country after last night. Miami, OSU, Clemson all have losses on the road to really bad teams. Those were complete let downs in games that each team didn't get up for. It's different when you play your rival. If you can't get up to play your rival then how good are you? I'm not sure Bama is one of the 4 best. They may be the 3rd best team in their own conference. I think Oklahoma is the best team in the country.

No problem with Oklahoma or Clemson and both very well could beat Alabama and would maybe be favorites. OSU got smoked at home and on road, Miami just doesn’t pass the eye test. Wisconsin is a nice team but it seems whenever they play a powerhouse outside of Big 10, they get exposed. On a neutral field, think Bama is better than Auburn and Georgia. Scary thing is this isn’t even one of their better teams last 6 years.

  6. I know there are those who argue that you have to be on a contender but I say this, how many games would Miami or Reds win without these guys? Wasn’t Votto’s fault that 4/5 of their starting pitching was out for part or all of year or that management didn’t do its job.

  7. Some of these programs act like they're Tennessee or Michigan and can hire/fire coaches like a big time program. But Head Coaches in HS football are a special breed. Hang on to the ones who are dedicated.

As do a lot of fans. They want HS coaches fired and sometimes wonder if they realize these people have families. Some may be average coaches but great teachers. And there’s this: How many of those who clamor for coaches to be fired would be fired at their own jobs if everyone was watching?!!

  8. Really enjoyed the show. A few quick takeaways:

    1. Being a student of the history of pro wrestling, I was well aware of the first Nature Boy, Buddy Rogers. I knew that Flair was heavily influenced by Rogers. Ric took the "Nature Boy" to the ultimate level- all the way to "Space Mountain" and beyond.

    2. Can you imagine partying with Ric and Wilt Chamberlain? 20,000 + 10,000 = 30,000 . I like that math !!!

    3. Loved the story about going to the psychiatrist. By the end of the session the shrink was on the couch and the Nature Boy was doing the counseling. :lol2:

    4. I found Flair to be very real in this documentary. Didn't try to deny that he was a bad father, bad husband. Seemed very candid about his life.

    5. Amazing that he is still alive after all the abuse his body has taken. I won't forget that one shot of him just sitting there looking into the camera looking like an aged and beaten man. You could see the mental and physical pain the hard living years had dished out on him. He looked 90 yrs old in that one shot.

    6. The best matches I have ever seen in my life(and I challenge all wrestling fans to go to youtube and watch some of these) were the Ric Flair- Ricky Steamboat matches. Ric and Rick were two epic performers that could keep fans engaged for a full 60 minutes of wrestling. Seriously, go back and watch those matches. You don't see stuff like that anymore.

    7. Ric Flair transcends pro wrestling. He is a pop culture icon. He has had an influence on sports figures from many different sports, as well as entertainers outside of sport. Interesting comment in the show from Snoop Dogg about what Ric meant to the hip hop industry.

    8. Poignant moment when Ric talked about one of his biggest regrets- not being more of a father to Reid, instead of just a buddy.

    9. Buying the big house and expecting his dad to be impressed when he saw it, only to have his dad say, "what do you need with all this room? , " seemed to sum up their father-son relationship. Ric never could get dad's approval or live up to dad's expectations. I believe that really affected him his whole life.

    10. Flair never was comfortable in the skin of Richard Morgan Fliehr. In fact, it seemed painful to even reflect on the real person. He was able to hide behind the mask of the "Nature Boy" for four decades. It seems he has never been able to come to terms with who he is deep down.

    11. Interestingly, Ashley said she wouldn't be where she is today were it not for her brother's tragic death. Seems she is determined to live out his dream.

    12. Seems like Ric was quite the exhibitionist. Apparently, Sting saw more of "Nature Boy" than he bargained for.

    13. There was a Tony Schiavone sighting ...

    14. Interesting take from Ric on why he and Dusty made such a great "Face-Heel" tandem.

    15. Can you imagine the bar tab for an Andre the Giant / Ric Flair all-nighter?

I think it was Flair’s book where I read that he, Dusty, Andre and one other were driving to the next town which was like 2-3 hours away. Stopped at a gas station. Andre came out with bottle of wine and case of beer. Flair asked him to hand a beer over. Andre told him that he needed to get his own!!
