The Waggener Wildcats haven't had a rich basketball history, the last time they made the 7th Region Tournament was in 1998. Their most recent success came in 2007/2008 when they went 22-6, however after that season Head Coach Kevin Klein returned to his Alma mater St. Xavier and highly touted freshman LaVonne Holland transferred to Ballard. Things are starting to look up though for the first time in a long while. Second year Head Coach Bryan O'Neill returns leading scorer Joseph Head along with top juniors Roderick Maddox and Semaj Ingram. Then you factor in what could end up being the top freshman class in the state. Brandon Wells, Tony Washington, Kevin Kirby, Nicholas Kratholm and Jaalam Hill all have the ability to compete for playing time now. I recently talked with Head Coach O'Neill about expectations, his freshman class and the program he's building at Waggener. North Oldham High School is coming into this season after losing five major components off last year's team. Four starters are gone and former Head Coach David Henley has moved on to the same position at Eastern High School in Louisville. The good news though is they return their leading scorer David Levitch and their new Head Coach is very familiar with the team . Coach Chris Stobaugh has spent the last two seasons as an assistant at North Oldham before taking the reigns this year. Coach Stobaugh will look to run a much faster pace this year, employing a motion offense that will look to get his team easy looks both beyond the arc (where they excel) and at the basket. Levitch will be their main weapon, the 6'3" 155 lb. 2013 SG hold school records for the most steals and assists in a season and is in the top five in a season for both rebounds and points. Levitch has been offered by Bellarmine and has also been offered a preffered Walk-On spot at Louisville. Levitch's goals for this season are to win the 8th region and make it to state, as well as improve his strength, ball-handling and defense. He also had this to say when asked about how having a new coach will affect North Oldham this season. "I think it will help, I like his style of play, up and down. 2014 Pleasure Ridge Park F D'Angelo Hunter recently talked with the Michigan State coaching staff this past weekend.

Quentin Goodin may just be the best player in Kentucky's 2016 class. The 6'2" combo guard has already made a name for himself on the national circuit and colleges are starting take notice. Tennessee, Purdue, Dayton, WKU, EKU, NKU and UAB are all currently showing him interest. Goodin started as an 8th grader last year for Taylor County, he averaged 11.1 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. He also helped lead his AAU team Hoop Dreams to a #13 ranking in the country. He then followed those performances up by being named to the Top 40 All-Star Game at this years Fab Frosh Camp. I recently talked with Quentin about his recruitment, expectations at Taylor County this year and why he chose to play for Kentucky Travelers next year. Mercy's Whitney Hartlage committed to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga over the weekend. Hartlage is considered one of the top shooters in the state.

2014 D'Angelo Hunter of Pleasure Ridge Park was visited by Indiana State and Northern Kentucky last week.

Recently talked with 2013 Eastern SG Jordan Brangers: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jordan Brangers (Eastern) is a 6'2" 185 pound 2013 Shooting Guard, who's know for his scoring acumen. However, Jordan is looking to expand his game this coming season, " I really wanna improve on getting to the basket so it can open my shot up more." Watch out if he does, Jordan is lethal when left open and can score in bunches, which makes it clear why he compares himself to former Duke star Austin Rivers. Jordan is currently being recruited the hardest by Gardner Webb and Georgia State who started recruiting him after several monster games at the Adidas May Classic, with his AAU team Hoop Dreams. He's also hearing from Eastern Kentucky, Murray State, Lipscomb and Belmont. He currently plans to visit Georgia State and Gardner Webb, and is still looking for his first offer. True but what I was getting at is they might not support the move. This is all speculative though, who knows what may happen by next AAU season.

I'm still very skeptical of this especially since I know for a fact that the Magic are working with another Louisville area program on players younger than 14U. I just don't see the real need...

They're moving to Kentucky and going after the best players they can get, which includes Magic players, Shane Hall, etc. I don't see any chance of the Magic moving to Lexington and being a Nike team. I talked to Andy Rines (Travelers Program Director) a little over a week ago and Nike has been very supportive of their move to KY. Plus Ellis is Adidas through and through (Compton Magic, Louisville, etc.) so the change makes little sense as he's already had a top 5 AAU program with Adidas.
