  1. If you think a head coach in today's society has NO IDEA what the recruits are doing that he has ON CAMPUS for official visits you'd better pull your head out of the sand!!!

I totally agree with this sentiment. If a top 15 recruit/McDonald's All-American (A Blakeney) is coming on campus, you're telling me Pitino had no idea what was going on? He never once asked "what are your plans with this guy?" Or "how did it go last night?"

Maybe he didn't know Katina Powell, but he had to know there were shenanigans going on. Guys talk.

  2. I say this through the lens of being INCREDIBLY pro-John Brannen, probably behind only @Bench on this site, but if Dayton gets to John Brannen as its next coach it has gone through a slew of more qualified and accomplished coaches, and that would be really surprising to me. Dayton is a very good job and John would be REALLY light in terms of resume' for this job. I just can't imagine enough other guys say "no" for it to get to that.

    I would agree.

  3. That was probably the worst call in the game. The missed foul on Fox at the end of the half and the foul on Willis stood out to me.

I'm not griping and saying the refs cost UK the game, but I do enjoy objectively discussing officiating. It's a tough job.

At first look, I thought the no call was correct. The defender had legal guarding position, and jumped straight up with arms extended upward ... rule of verticality. And I firmly believe you should NOT reward the offensive player for initiating contact (which you often see). However, after the initial contact, I believe BOTH defenders fouled Fox when their arms came down on his arms.

  4. I think you are drastically underestimating how much time is necessary for a game, and when the next game could start. No way is 90 minutes enough for a game and the warmups for the next game.

Just looking back at the update threads for this year's games and where the game actually started versus when it was scheduled...

Perry Central & Scott (supposed to tip at 1:30) started at 2:08

Ballard & Fern Creek (slated for 8:00 start) got underway at 8:24

Cooper & Fern Creek (scheduled for 8:00) didn't begin until 8:45

All of those were with just ONE game played prior to them. It averages out to just over 35 minutes. With the current set up, only 1 game is affected. With your's, it would have a chain reaction all the way down the line.

Game for 5:00 - starts on time

    Game for 6:30 - doesn't start until 7:05

    Game for 8:00 - won't begin until 9:10

Game for 9:30 - probably wouldn't begin until around 11:15

It's a nice theory that you've got, but I just don't see reality coming anywhere near that (at least for your first 2 days).

I see your point, but there is no reason to have a 20+ minute warmup for a high school basketball game. They're 16-18 year old kids. If they can't get loose in 8 minutes, there's something wrong. Watch any layup line pregame, and you can tell those kids are lathered up after about 3 minutes.

  5. Dare I say Cals lack of in game coaching hurt his team down the sttretch? Hind sight is 20/20,but why not call time out and set your D on the last possession? Or when they go Up 5 and take horrible shots. Call time there and calm them down set up a play designed to get the ball down low

Hump had an open 16 footer he missed. Willis had an open corner 3 and missed. Monk had a bad TO, but Carolina hit three really difficult shots (Pinson baseline, Jackson mid-lane floater and Berry runner high off the glass). And least we forget ... "getting the ball down low" never worked once the entire game. If Cal calls a timeout and NC goes down and wins it, people would say he gave NC the opportunity to set up a play.

Sometimes it just doesn't go your way. It happens. Not Cal's fault

  6. “Put simply,” the NCAA said, “arranging and funding sexual intercourse for a prospective student athlete on an official visit is a severe violation, wholly inconsistent with NCAA principles, whether valued at $80 or $120.

Although not new to anyone, the frankness of that statement would cause me alarm, if I'm UofL.

  7. I agree regarding the staff. I do find it more entertaining to have the history of the local kids and how they stack up at next level. If I want to watch high level ball then I'm at UC, XAVIER or UK

But in the end it's all about $$$$ so your u better put butts in the seats

Who says John Brannen isn't trying to bring "high level ball" to NKU? Maybe that's why he never offered.

  8. Local colleges.....

I'm not buying the "no scholarship available" comment because this kid should have been on their radar last year. He was not

All this does for the Norse now is put tremendous preassure on the coaching staff. If Jake goes on to have a successful career at WKU and NKU falters and ticket sales aren't where they should be, then questions should be asked about their recruiting practices. Maybe this works out for all

I can tell you this much, Jake is fun to watch and I would have been at NKU to watch just as I do the other local boys on the roster now. Without that local connection, I don't have an interest. I'll stay home and watch UK

I think that's the danger for NKU.

As a season ticket holder at NKU, I don't give a flip where the players went to high school. Get the best kids you can find.

So far, the new staff has acquitted themselves quite nicely.

  9. Looking at history, IU is certainly a blue blood. Definitely in the discussion of top 5. Especially amongst those of us over 40. :)

However, it has been a long time since they were relevant year in and year out. More importantly, the vast majority of 18-year-olds are clueless of that history, which significantly knocks them out of discussion of top 5.

Based on longevity and recent success, as well as community support/budget, conference affiliation, how is UofL NOT considered a top 5 program?? I put them right up there with UK/Duke/UNC/KU. (And I'm a UK fan)
