  1. Heard Blake Maines did not play in this game. Can anyone confirm. Something happen at their game on Monday?

He was "put on restriction" by the field ump during the game on Monday, I'm assuming this meant he was ejected from the game, but did not have to leave the field. I am not sure about that, also not sure if him sitting this one out was by KHSAA rule or coaches decision.

  2. Will posting about the bullying on here only make it worse?

Schools can only do so much, I mean what control or actions should they do if something happens away from the school? This is referencing the complaints of how a school handles these situations.

Maybe the bullying in school issue needs it's own thread? Just a thought...

  3. Drop' date=' if you squeeze with 2 outs and the defense throws out the batter at first the inning is over. No run scored.[/quote']

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say if the bunt is successfully put down with two outs, heat of the moment, a high school kid will pick it up and try to flip it to the catcher to get the run at the plate.

We are talking about high school kids here. Not pros. Either way you spin it, the sacrifice bunt with the winning run at third is stupid in my opinion.

  4. Why would you suicide squeeze with the winning run on 3rd and one out when all you need is a pop up to the outfield and you win???

If you do it with 2 outs, get the bunt down, run scores and you win. And if you don't get it down then oh well. Go play extras.

Why waste the opportunity for a sacrifice fly? A hard ground ball that gets through, a throwing error to first base?? Your chances of getting that run across with 1 out are far better than wasting it with a sacrifice bunt attempt.

    But hey, I'm probably wrong.

  5. The suicide squeeze call was probably one of the worst coaching decisions I've seen in a while. With 1 out and the winning run on 3rd base, all the batter would need to do is hit a pop fly to any part of the outfield, and Cooper wins the game. Instead the coach called a suicide squeeze, pitch out, runner was dead meat. Now if there were two outs, I'm all for trying it. But never with one out. That was just bad.

  6. Was anything done about the PA announcer that was ejected? This is really bad in my opinion. I realize that these are volunteer positions (I am one at another complex), but if this person did something using the PA that got him/her ejected, then it should be the last time they are allowed to be in that position. IMO.

I'm pretty certain the person who was sitting in the announcers tower, that was asked to leave is not the PA announcer. Just another person who was sitting up there.

  7. Facts are facts if you dont want to be called a FOOL dont act like a FOOL THATS NOT NOT SARCASIM!!!!!! Just the truth deal with it and stop making excuses for him and maybe he will change.ITS CALLED ENABLEING LOOK IT UP IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT IT MEANS LOL NOW THAT WAS SARCASIM

Stating fact is fine, I'm all for it. But when it comes to calling kids punks and their dads fools I feel like it should be done elsewhere. Like in a conversation with the father. Not on a forum with a masked identity.

I'm fully aware of the meaning of the word enabling. I'm not making excuses for anyone. Try laying off the caps lock next big guy. And I think one exclamation point would be sufficient. Also word of advice, when making a loud statement, such as the one you just made, try spell checking first.

  8. Wasn't there, not a member or parent of either team...........just have a question for the rule hounds out there.....

Since the ball was "cut off" down the third base line, isn't that an attempt at a play at home? The catcher doesn't know if it is coming through or not, so shouldn't he assume that it is and try to take position? If it gets cut AFTER that, then he doesn't have control.......

If he took position AFTER the ball was cut and redirected away from home, then it would seem like the ump made the correct call.

For those that were there.....and are objective (you self assess)........which was it?

I posted this earlier. Catcher was set up to receive the throw from left field, ball in the air, on it's way home, catcher in position.. After the catcher was positioned, the ball was cut off. In no way was he to know the ball was going to be cut off 3/4 of the way down the 3rd base line. That is why I said it was a judgement call by the ump, and he deemed it was necessary to run the catcher.

  9. I always thought the rule was that the catcher can only block the plate if he has the ball, or is that what you mean by a "play at the plate".

If the ball is on its way to him, i.e. a throw from the field, he has the right to position himself for a play at the plate. In this situation, he was positioned in front of the plate, awaiting a throw from left field. This throw was sub sequentially cut off, therefore, there was no "Play", and the umpire deemed he was blocking the plate with no cause..

  10. This is not the first time this has happened with either one of those players and anybody that is on here from conner or seen these two in the summer knows exactly what im talking about and if i was a gambling man i would bet that mrs. Hart was one of the pets in the dog and pony show.

True or not, this comment is out of line, and FYI.. If you were betting on this one, you'd loose your money

  11. Clyde, there was an earlier altercation between Maines and Brennan at the plate. Maines either tripped Brennan or Brennan tried to make it look that way and both teams got a warning. The next inning, there was a play at the plate involving I believe Brennan again. Hart blocked the plate and Maines ran over into the 3rd base line and cut the ball off. They threw him out for tripping the player. Im not totally sure but I always thought that the catcher had the right to the plate in that situation

If there is no play at the plate, the catcher can't block the plate. Since the throw from the outfield was cut off, technically there was no "play". The umps interpreted the rule in the way they saw fit. In my opinion, the Conner catcher shouldn't have been run, but he was.

  12. Talking with Ryle and Conner fans no one knew who the disorderly guy was who was ejected. I heard he was everybody from Roesel's dad to the new Pope Francis. Skipping over the controversy, lets say even if the ump totally blew the player ejection call, letting the kid pull his car the backstop and blare music so loud it interrupted the game is ridiculous. That's on the coach.

Blake Maines impressed pitching and with the stick, I believe he had 3 doubles and managed his composure well when a few errors happened. He kept Conner close. Mitch See pitched masterfully and Jake Ashley gunning down Fogle and Ross was stellar. Baumann adding another triple to the school record and Tyler Mason I believe 2 more doubles helped Ryle out pace the Cougars. It was a very exciting game.

Not sure if you were at this game or this comment is simply hearsay, but I was at the game, standing behind the backstop, and the player who was ejected did not pull his car to the fence to play music. As a matter of fact, the only vehicle that was parked behind the backstop was the athletic trainer's golf cart, and Mr. Stellman's pickup truck.

  13. That is great to hear. Glad that the kids are at least keeping it clean' date=' shame that a parent has to get out of control like that at a kids game. That is all it is aftreall, a game.[/quote']

Let me correct something from my previous post. I posted it was a Ryle parent. That was an assumption on my part. I am not certain of he was a Ryle parent or not. However he did come from the Ryle section of the bleachers and he was wearing black. So odds are good he was a supporter of Ryle in some way shape or form.

  14. Blake Maines may have a bad reputation... However let me say this, he DID NOT have a single thing to do with the incident. Which in all honesty, was not really a big deal on the field. The issue is with the Ryle person who decided it would be a wise choice to walk from the far end of the bleachers to the opposite side of the facility just so he could harass some parents.

He continued his obnoxious behaviors, even shoving his elbow into a mans face before he left when he assumed the police were being called. The police were not called. The athletic director, Tom Stellman, was called.

I was at the game. Within hearing distance of the pre mentioned Ryle parent when the whole issue occurred. Any other side of the story is bunk. I was literally within 10 feet of the whole thing.

It's already being blown way out of proportion. It all boils down to absurd behavior by a moronic person. There was really nothing that happened ON the field that was out of line. Nobody tripped anyone purposely. Players collide from time to time playing baseball. And that is what happened, incidental contact. The plate up even said out loud "It was an accident" when the Ryle kid tripped over Maines, who was trying to back up the catcher during a potential play at the plate in the first inning.

Blue Tip, I'm interested to hear what you mean by "selfish agendas" in regards to the Conners players.

  15. Heard a nasty thing from a players parent at Cov Cath about their coach from the Conner game. This coach needs to settle down and remember; this is just a game with young men that should be learning good life lessons. Enough! We are watching!! Settle down coach!!

Which coach are you talking about? And could you be a bit more specific about your comment?

  16. Congrats to Connor and I Agree.....Hope Fogle's hammy is just a minor issue.

Seeing them twice, last night he may have jumped to my "best hitters that I've Seen" list......Haven't seen all, but power and consistency........he always seems to hit it on the screws.

Fogle's leg is not a serious injury. He is taking it easy. He had a slight pull in his hamstring about a week ago, and is easing back into things. No reason to rush, and cause a real problems.
