  1. As far as predictions for the season? The Cougars will have a tough row to how. They are replacing many key players and The majority of the O-Line. Many of the O-Line lost also were regulars on the D-Line.

My reasoning for saying they will have a tough time this year is this: We saw a glimpse of this years squad in The game last season against Scott. Fogle was out, three starting linemen were out as well. Barker was basically left to win the game on his own. He had little help. And there are more guys not returning this year than just the few listed above. That is not a knock on Scott, but in no way should that game had been as close as it was.

Conner has some talent coming up, however it is yet to be seen how they will perform at the varsity level. The linemen they have coming up are not the quality of those lost, that will come with time I hope. They don't have a skill player in the same universe as C Fogle, Barker's go to guy, more than one player in the skill positions will have to step up big to fill his shoes.

I want nothing but the best this year for CHS, however I realistically see 4, maybe 5 wins. With potential to go 4-6 on the year.

W's- Grant Co, Campbell Co, Holy Cross, Scott

L's- Ryle, Cooper, S. Oldham, CCHS

    ?'s- Boone, SK

(Boone has a new coaching staff and supposedly a new offense, and I haven't seen much of SK so I can't accurately say much about them.)

  2. Can I be the first to say that I do not understand why Conner/Boone would play at Thomas More? Where is the benefit in this?

Well, it's part of the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown. There are several places across the tri-state that are host sites for this event. I don't think Conner or Boone is one of them.

Playing in these types of "bowls" is a good fundraiser for both schools, and lets the players get a taste of playing in front of, at times, a larger than normal crowd. Mostly because there are multiple games that day and fans from all teams are there. TMC may not have the same feel as Nippert. But it's different than the usual home fields the players are used to. Something exciting for the boys.

  3. Scuttlebutt at the E/W All Star Game last night was that Fogle may move to scholly and get snaps next year

The coaching staff had been high on him every since they started. One of the reasons he wasn't already on scholarship is because they didn't have any left. Well, now they have some.

Fogle is already moved in to Lexington, enrolled in class, and has had a couple of workouts. With his ability, and work ethic, do not be surprised to see him on the field this year. I know I will not be shocked one bit. I expect him to see him out there quite a bit.

  4. I know Im not following the thread title, its tough to pick 3, I'm not even going to try. Im just going to throw some names out that could easily be in anyone's top 3...

    Individual Names:

    Nick West

    Drew Barker

    George Duvall "The Bowling Ball"

    Trevor Stellman

    Dustin Alvey

    Jeremy Bolton

    Dutch Kennedy

    Bill Samad

    Matt Botts

    Victor Singleton

Scott Kuhn (a much better D Lineman than TE in my opinion)

    Families:

    Both Cole Brothers

    All 3 Wolf brothers

    All 3 Fogle brothers

    Both Warner Brothers

Scottie Buckler Conner High School's version of the ESPN 30 for 30 "The best that never was" He could have gone down as one of the greatest, but due to some personal happenings, he had to quit playing after his sophomore season. Anyone who has been around Conner athletics or even the Boone County Pee Wee league for a while knows him

  5. Greg Menetrey went to Campbell and does Tough Mudders these days.

Dustin Menetrey (Tree) was flat out awesome, and probably every bit as good as Morlidge, Tackett and Berger. So tough to call.

And if we are going to talk Wera (great player) I think we have to talk Greg Hergott first because.

I played against Wera & Dustin. Played with Dustin at G-Town. Both were very good. And I couldn't remember if the older Menetrey went to Beechwood, or somewhere else.

  6. Charlie Siffel #1 on list. As junior listed as Top 5 RB in the country. Heavily recruited for the 60's, academics were not a strong suit.

Al Major - 1977 QB - I believe only SK QB to ever attain 1st team All-State fantastic player and even better person

Miles Simpson - No explanation needed

All other listed are pretty good honorable mentions. SK has had a ton of great lineman over the year. This is for the glory boys.

Jeff Fogle (Class of 77) Simon Kenton Hall of Famer & State Champ in Track. Played line, biggest guy on the field at prob 220 LBS. If he played today, I'd say he would probably be one hell of a LB or TE. From what I gather from the stories that Al Major told me he used to crush people, and not think twice about it.

  7. ThisGuy- You are correct, Conner lost more than they won with him out. The games he missed were not district seeding games, therefore, meaningless. And you are correct, if Conner were to have made it to state, they would be playing without him, because he will begin football at UK on June 4th. Coach Arlo knew that from day 1.

He runs routes with Drew several times a week. His passion and future is football. He played baseball for fun, and I think it stopped being fun for him when some of his team mates acted like children on a consistent basis, and some of the others were too worried about getting the season over with so they could spend the summer partying like frat boys. Personally, I wouldn't have wanted to invest much into a team like that.

  8. Disappointing season for Conner, who was ranked as high as #1 in some pre-season polls. I try to stay too unopinionated on here, and just relay stats and facts, but here are a few of my thoughts on the season as someone who saw alot of Conner baseball this year.

Injuries and distractions were their undoing. I applaud Arlo for letting Maines go, but it should have done a month ago, perhaps even after last season. The inconsistency of him in and out of the line up for suspensions and the theatrics that came with it were hard to manage. I was told last night that Shawnee State really wanted him, but have dropped him off their radar now (that is hearsay). Unfortunately, Blake Hart had his occasional melt downs, too, which led to a new seating policiy at the Conner field because of parent issues at one particular game (fans are no longer to sit behind the backstop). Injuries to Fogle, Henry, Hart, and Williams didn't help things. Fogle wasn't right all year physically with the hamstring. I also think he may have been a little more mentally focused on getting to UK in 2 weeks than baseball, which is natural, but that hurt the team, too (I say that as a HUGE HUGE Cameron Fogle fan). I think he was the best all-around player in the region when healthy, but I think we are all aware that his first love is football. When you lose not only your two best players (Fogle and Maines), but arguably 2 of the best players in the Region, it's gonna create a tough hill to climb. Padgett did not hit the way he did last year, and they missed his consistency at the plate, especially considering the factors above, although he did pitch well and played solid defensively.

There were some bright spots. Cameron Ross really impressed me both at the plate and on the mound. He's one to watch next year. I thought Hart developed well behind the plate and threw out his share of baserunners. Austin Brake had a nice comeback season. Blaise Ostertag had a solid year as a sophmore. And I'd be amiss if I didn't congratulate Arlo on dropping 70 pounds this season, wow!

Conner loses alot, I believe 7 seniors, so it will be interesting to see how some of the younger kids develop and how roles will be designated next year. Thank you to all the seniors for your hard work the past 4 years, and good luck to next year's players!

Fogle finished the year with some pretty outstanding stats if you look them up, so to say he wasn't right all year is a stretch. I think he only missed a handful of games, and to my knowledge, none of them were district seeding games. He cant do it all himself. Last night for example, of Conner's 4 hits, he had two of them. And if you were there, Id say he's 100% by the looks of his speed on the triple he hit, that for 99% of kids would have been a double. I believe, and this is off the top of my head, but he finished the year over .500 batting average. He set records at CHS that will not be broken for a long time to come. And if you know anything about him, you wouldn't say he wasn't focused. When he plays, he plays to win.

True, he has bigger and better things in his future, hence why he took so much time off to rehab his hamstring. First summer practice at UK is June 4th. Why risk further injury, or risk not coming into summer camp any less than 100% when he has a VERY legitimate chance of playing for the Cats next season???

Conner was a better team with him in the lineup, but I applaud him, for taking the right steps to heal properly. His injury was not as bad as everyone thinks. If it were football season, he probably wouldn't have missed a game. He's tough, played the last 3 football games with a fracture in his ankle. I also think it was very big of Coach Arlo to allow Cameron the time to heal, and not pressure him into playing before he was ready.

I agree it was a disappointing season for Conner, because they had the talent to win the region, if, and that is a huge IF, all of the guys on the team had their heads on straight. Too many kids worried about partying, being the cool guy, and thinking they were better than the team. Cam missing a few games to make sure he was healed for college football camp was the least of their problems.

    That's my two cents.

  9. Cmon Man....I hope your guy gets to play at the next level, and I'll go as far as hoping he gets an offer from a D1 school, but really, you have to put this up on this thread? Start a thread talking about your guys recruiting and how it is going, I know that I will be an interested reader.

If he is who I think he is, he just likes to stir the pot.. Try your best to ignore it.. I know it's hard.

  10. I heard Maines took himself out of the game in the 4th inning, packed up his gear and left the field. Can anyone confirm this? Did he quit?

Wouldn't surprise me.. He's threatened to quit several times. He could be a very good player if he ever decided to get his head out of the clouds, and join us in reality.

  11. Here's a pretty easy way to look at it... Any visit to a campus (spring game, to watch practice, day camp, etc) in which the parents or player comes out of pocket for anything it's an unofficial visit, and those are unlimited, can be taken at any time of any high school year.

Official visits are When the school pays for everything, you only get 5 of these and they are limited to certain times during the players high school years.

And to add the official visits are usually over night stays, meals with head coach or coordinator, things like that where they try to make the player feel extra special. College coaches are some of the best salesmen on this planet...
