  1. I can pick on Dixie too guys. Dixie is good not great. They are soft at some positions. They lack killer instinct. They did struggle to move the ball at times and while Dixie handled most of Boone's defenders a couple of them gave Dixie fits.

In short, Dixie should have scored a lot more than 38 points against Boone but Dixie is inconsistent.

And for anyone playing Dixie, pressure the QB if you want to win but the guys you use have to be studs with speed and quickness.

Pressure a QB who has thrown the ball less than any other in NKY. No to beat Dixie stop the run make them pass. They run first and sencond. What Dixie are you watching??

  2. Yes, as a Boone fan, our kids were blown off the ball a lot of the time. I did not see a decent defense in that game at all. I do not think they were "scared" but there was no fire. They played flat the whole game. They failed to complete tackles and allowed Dixie RBs to get huge chunks of yardage after contact. It was pretty ugly.

    Dixie is a fine team.

Yes Dixie is. You got to have a line O and D. The game is won up front. Dixie has some big strong kids. A few D 1 commits. And it showed. Good luck to Boone. Dixie just looked bigger stronger taller.

  3. Be nice part, no need to poke the ru. Congrats to the Dixie Heights Colonels. Our boys continue to develop and gain momentum going into a very challenging district home and home against the Camels and then the neers after we return from Lexington Tates Creek next week.

Believing in this very good group of student/athletes. Go Dixie Heights!!! :thumb:

That was being nice!! The holes opened up by Dixies line were huge. Dixie's D with 76 and 58 gave Boone fits all night. At times Dixie's line down blocked d lineman 5 yards off the ball.

  4. The BREDS offensive line is Horrible, especially the right side. I've been saying it since game one, changes on offensive the line need to be made!! They have got to either move some guys around or better yet, find some guys, on the sideline, who want to play and put them in. Way too many players acting like they don't want to be there. A few just standing around watching the QB get hit, time and time and time again. Henschen is getting better every week, and still needs to get rid of the ball a little quicker, but dang, the line hass got to block and give him some time to throw the ball. I mean, come on, NO BLOCKING. No way NCC makes it back to Bowling Green with the line they have now.

I dont think its a matter of how bad NCC right side of the line is. Dixie is just very big and strong on the D-line. NT 6'4 280 DE 6'3 235, muti others also play 6'5 230..6'0 250.. Just ask beachwood...

  5. Speed can be improved drastically with training. Ask anybody in Track.

Generally , D1 recruits are qualified by measureables and the only one you cannot impact through training is height. Speed, agility and flexibility can all be improved with training. It is just a matter of how hard do you want to work. In fact, skill is almost irrelevant.

Look at basketball. You can be a great HS player a 6'5 center score 20 a game but not at the D1 level. They will take a 6'10 project over the better shorter player.

  6. Though it may seem trite this is true.

You see some parents of D1 players. Dad is 6'5" and mom is 6"1 and both may have been college athletes. Thus junior comes in a solid 6'3" or more.

From experience - parents that are 6'2" and 5'1" can generate 2 5'10"s and a 6'2". Guess which one at least considered the next level in football?

Here is the NSCA recruiting guide:

    http://www.ncsasports.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/SportsSpecificRecruitingGuide1.pdf

Page 28 has the 'template' sizes that high level D1 is looking for.

The shortest is 6'0" (RB). The other positions are 6'2" or more. TE, OL, DL are 6'4".

I had a former college player father tell me that at D1 level they do focus on size and speed (as noted - they can not teach those). They have the (arrogant) attitude that then can teach you everything else in most cases.

Spot on. They tend to thing High School coaches are clueless they can teach the game just not size speed. This is my stance they know what fits the mold and won't beak it often.

  7. What a great thread. My belief is that D1 players are born- size and speed. A young man with exceptional drive to go along with that size and speed will be high D1. A young man without size/speed but exceptional drive could play D1 but will have to walk on and earn it.

I'm with you on this. If you don't have the size/speed they need for a position it doesn't matter how good you are. Kid could set the HS rushing record but never even get a call...

  8. It's both. I was fortunate when my son was being recruited to have the opportunity to talk to a lot of college coaches. They look at the measurables, coachability, and grades. They are about to invest a lot of money, usually several hundred thousand dollars minimum, and if you won't do the work outside of being athletically gifted you better be going to LSU;).

D1 coaches are hung up on size. Its an easier sell to the head coach. I like this kids he's 6'5 290 OL. His tape could not be as good as 20 other smaller kids. They are looking for what the big kid could be in a few years. With speed its the same way.

  9. I was not at this one, but was at the Mt Healty game. Sounds like same game played out. Complete dominance by opposition on both lines, which is hard to understand. BW has some nice size kids. Strength seems to be a real issue, which tells the tale of off season workout programs and dedication to same. BW has athletes all over the field, and from what I saw they do a poor job a distributing and balancing the plays. I get to very few Tiger games, but I typically know what play is coming based on personnel package and alignment. That's play calling and imagination. They keep trying to fit square pegs in round holes, i.e. trying to continually ram the ball between tackles on running plays. Looks to me like they have a bunch of in space guys, but do very little out of sets to utilize them. Have it occasionally stretch the defense and run a toss sweep or something. Ran a great end around to slusher in game at UC, he turned it into a big play. Studer is great on the edge and as a WR, but between the tackles he is pedestrian. Stringer can fly, but seems lost tip toeing behind the center looking for a yard or two. No excuse to get beat that bad. Dixie is not a great team, at least not as good as BW made them look. Seems they need a little shake up in play calling duties or at least philosophy. No clue about defense. In the games I have watched they appear lost and have no continuity or team concept of where they are to be and when.

No play calling would have changed this game. Flat out Dixie dominated the line. Hard to run any plays when the guys up front cant get any push..

  10. Beechwood tried hard... but they were just way overmatched. Too much size, talent, speed and toughness on the Dixie side tonight.

After all the hot air blown by the Beechwood faithful in the prediction thread I'm wondering if Beechwood fan even watches football?

Beechwood looked small Dixie ran the ball at will.

  11. Couldn't agree more. Great size but very slow. Wouldn't be surprised to see him play tackle at the next level even though it's been said in here he will play TE. I just don't see it.

I will also stick my neck out this early in the season. And that is I pick CCH to win their district this year. I think Highlands streak over CCH is in jeopardy this year.

Hedger was recruited as a blocking TE with good hands. Hand down TE that blocks 90% of the time. Then slips out into the flats. Short yard pass plays.

  12. Dixie has 3 D1 commits. Two of them are Hedger and Johnson. I can't remember the third. For a team with this personnel and a Sr. QB, this result is flat out embarrassing. Two punt returns for TDs on ridiculously poor tacking. Penalties killing drives. Moore throwing passes to yard markers. This team has a 6' 5" D1 TE. i think he caught 1 pass.

With HHS laying an egg last night, CCH should be the favorite in 4A, and #1 in NKy.

Johnson and Hedger are D-1 commits. Dixie has to many kids never leaving the feild. Hedger playing D-End and TE. Johnson playing Oline and Dline. Many others also playing both ways..
