  1. Hedger and Moore were both at summer work outs, despite playing football as well.

Neither will be that far behind.

Newport is the team that is really having it rough right now because of all the football kids. They are basically doing skill work, 1 on 1, and 3 on 3 because they only have 7 legit players in the gym right now.

hedger played all summer and spring with a knee injury that required surgery. He is now 100%. That was suffered playing basketball.

  2. I have read the threads about Dave Wirth at Covington Catholic, but does anyone think a change needs to come to Holy Cross? Going 6-24 since winning the State Title in 2011 and only defeating Bishop Brossart in the past 2 years makes me think something needs to change. We see them in the first round of the playoffs against our District champs.

    What gives in Latonia?

Don't they only field 25 players??

  3. Dixie's success will be determined by how well their bigs play.

Rabe, Moore, and Schreck are tough guards at both ends of the floor that will likely average 10+ ppg this year and I think Schreck can average around 10 rpg...he really came on toward the end of last season and crashed the boards hard.

If Hedger, Niehaus, and especially Bolin can make an impact defensively, I think they have enough depth to spread the scoring around amongst the other player to be successful. I also look for Isbel to finally come out of his shell and play with more confidence. He had some unreal dunks this summer. One of the best athletes in the area.

I'm really looking forward to seeing soph Hunter Meyer this year. He didn't play football this year to focus on hoops and it showed in his game. I think he will establish himself as one of the top 3-5 sophomores in the area this year. Very talented kid.

We've seen the success the football team is having with the experience that this senior class brings and I think the hoop team will experience similar results.

Also wait and see if Hedger will play basketball this year. Kid is 1 or 3 TEs in the state to get D1 offers.

If Dixie makes a deep run in 6a football. Moore and Hedger will have to play catch up

  5. Agree. Too many people get confused about what letters mean, which is pretty much squat. The form letters are a dime a dozen, and every D1 school has 50 kids on campus most fall game days, only think it costs them is a ticket. Official visits are in your senior year, and paid for. The rest of these aren't worth more than a free football game for the kid and two guests. Take a look at all the offers out there. For the most part, if midway through your junior year you don't hold a D1 offer, it's not coming. They've moved on to 2017 and 2018 kids now.

For Phantom, completely agree. That 27 is a beast. Heck, I'd take 33 too. If he was the lone option like some other kids he'd be well over 1000, which is why yardages don't mean much. Lots of schools have two good backs that share carries, or in dixies case 3. Put any of them on Ryle or SK they would be well over 1000.

Letters mean 0. offers matter. A coach txt you matters calling you. A few game with 50 others doesn't mean much. In fact when an offer to a free game would come my way. First thing I would say. Are you considering offering me? Judging interest so as not to waste time.

  6. I agree. It's hard to swallow sometimes, but D1 (no matter what school) is tough for a running back to make it. The first thing I would say is if they were division one and playing in NKY, the numbers would have to be much higher and their film would have to prove they can do it against top competition. How many guys do you think send film to all the D1 schools to look at. To even get you to look at the film, you better have a 40 time and the size or they won't even click on the link. Then, how many make thru that? Then it goes into "well the numbers are impressive, but who are they doing it against?" And then these guys have been doing it so long, they can most likely look at the area they play in to see if it warrant a deeper look. If a kid from Moeller has the exact same numbers or even less that a kid from a nky school, who do you think takes priority in a D1 recruiter's mind? They wouldn't even look at the NKY kid until they run out of options of kid in football hotbeds. There are sooooo many kids to look at that they have to have a system/criteria for where they are going to spend their time. Logically, the most value added time is spending it in football hotbeds. So HS numbers really mean about 0 to D1 recruiters until they have been able to identify they are comparing apples to apples.

Thank god someone gets it on BGPs.

  7. Wow, here we go again. You should call all the D1 schools looking at Powell and England and tell them they should stop, stop calling the coaches and stop sending letters. No more trips to campuses because they aren't going to play D1. Could those schools be wrong or you? Both have the size speed and athleticism that schools are looking for or they wouldn't be interested in the slightest. I think you are way of base and are going to be so wrong about those two. If they played for your school you would say different but because they don't they aren't good enough. Then there are no D1 backs in NKY.

I agree there are no D1 RB in NKY

  8. Sorry but with #27 only having 559 yards and both Powell and England being over 1000 yards I don't think he gets to be in the conversation. Not saying at all that he's not a good HS player. Just doesn't have the production, and on a winning team at that. Powell has played on a winning team also. England has had good production on a team that is fighting to get to be .500. Cooper's back is good and quick, just to small in my book. Trying to be as objective as possible I would want the two bigger backs with the most production, Speed and strength. I've seen him on film and I'm not understating the fact that he is a good back. He is. He has had the advantage of running behind a very good line. I see only Dixie butts most of the time he has the rock, not many facemasks in his face. Be honest and watch film and see who stands out. Who jumps off the screen at you? Hope #27 has some offers soon if he doesn't already because he is a senior while the other two are Juniors they have a little more time.

you can have 2000 yards as a RB and get 0 offers. It's all about speed 40 time as a RB. The bigger you are the slower you can be.

  9. England did play,, he just was not a factor. Even though he has had some success over the past two weeks,, IMO he is playing out of position. I have seen this kid play since pee wee and he is not a running back. I think he is an athletic kid who would have more success at TE. That would put him against a LB in pass coverage or a safety that he would outmatch with his size.

Does he block well enough to play TE?

  10. I didn't get the feeling that the coaching staff committed to stopping the run the way they did a few years ago at Campbell vs. Durham in the playoffs. May be personnel though. Defense is an attitude many times and I didn't like what I saw from SK Friday. Dixie punched them in the mouth and they didn't punch back.

What else would SK be preparing for but the run?? All Dixie does is run. They throw the ball less than 10 times a game.
