Patrick Towles: MVP. Corey Compton: X factor. Highlands D: priceless.
Sweep told me on Thursday that Compton would be a huge factor in the game and would be a difference maker in the game. He was dead on. Congrats Birds on a great season!
-
Congrats Highlands you sure surprised a lot of people in the west including me.
I didn't think HHS could surprise anybody at this point!........lol!

Still 50-0?
Yup. Game over now.

OC just had a bad day it happens ...
You don't completely dominate a team the way NCC dominated OC and chalk it up to a "Bad Day" my friend. I'm by no means an NCC fan, but what they did was flat impressive. Play the game over 10 times and NCC wins by 4-5 TD's every time. The disparity in speed and physical play of NCC seems like the difference maker here.

Bingo!!!! That is why Highlands is the best in NKY almost every single year, regardless of size.
It is amazing to me; this stuff is not rocket science; get as many kids playing as possible and having fun and develop them all; then you will have more good varsity players when the time comes!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wildcat, the problem still remains the fact most of these leagues still tend to feature "winning" as the most important aspect of the game, rather than simply learning the games basics and becoming a "team" oriented player. It's a byproduct of the attitude that many of the coaches in the NKYFL have had for many years, and they are just now figuring out that it comes back to haunt them later on in the high school ranks.

Have you ever played roulette at a casino ? That wheel has no memory , it doesn't know ho many times black or red has come up in a row or how many times a certain number has , or will come up.
In responds to your previous title scores , that scoreboard has no memory so therefor those previous scores don't mean squat !
The Birds need to stay focused , like always , and be prepared for a battle. State titles don't come easy , and this one won't be any easier than the previous 19 !! Go Birds !! 20n10
That is almost verbatim what Sweeperboy said today when I paid him a visit. Sounds like CC has some excellent players that will present some challenges for the HHS defense.

I would hate to see Herbst leave SK, he's a very fiery character.
I don't know that coach Herbst would leave to go back to his Alma Mater at this point. I know for a fact he was offered a VERY good job last year and stayed at Simon. He must like the whole package there or he could be at another big program right now if he wanted it. Lets just say that program is still practicing right now. That is how good the offer he turned down was.

At the risk of turning this into a "who should have won Mr. Football" thread instead of the original topic; here goes.
I've already stated the above mentioned player should have been considered more heavily than he probably was. But the award is based on a High School career or season, not on what they do 1,2 or 4 years from now.
As to the aforementioned player's current career at ND, here are his team stats for the season to this date: http://espn.go.com/ncf/player/stats?playerId=500910
He must be logging time but do 6 tackles over 10 games sound like it's "major time"? :idunno:
If it's based on that criteria then why wasn't Jordan Aumiller considered more 3 seasons ago? He's at UK with 18 catches averaging 10.7 per catch with 1 TD? He's doing that as Redshirt Freshman. :idunno:
Back to this year. Everyone mentioned is deserving of consideration and has had outstanding years. But only one will get named which will leave us all the time to post on here about who we thought should have received the honor. :thumb:
I didn't say "Major Time" Hatz. I said playing time at a "Major D1 team". Big difference. ND may not be very good, but they are still a major program in college football as far as I know.
-
AC starts on every special team at ND as a true frosh..Not to be bad for a skinny slow kid that wasn't very good during his high school career..
And was a two time All State player at two different positions, and that was as a Sophmore and Junior. Switched positions his SR. year and lead them to a State Title.
-
So much for Bell being the best team in class 1-5.........
Congrats to Boyle on the win.
My thoughts exactly when I saw this score.
-
I do know that only one of the guys mentioned from last year are getting playing time on a major D1 team week in and week out. And that is AC at ND.

Awsome web site! Biggest suprise to me was the school is public. I thought it was private.
Good luck to you and safe travel wishes. It has been a lot of fun reading and posting on both boards with you guys.
You wouldn't be the first person outside of NKY to think HHS was private. lol!
-
That is some great reading. I notice he didn't make a prediction on the game though. Funny, he seems to have great knowledge of the pro game, but not bold enough to predict a HS game in his own backyard. Interesting.
-
His cousin said it was going to be Steve Lickert. That would be my choice.
I think that would be a waste of a young coaching talent. He gets more talent at Holmes than he ever would at Boone, IMO. He should wait until one of the really big boys come calling, and they will.

People in Harlan County are always against it pal. You have no idea. Most of our kids can only dream of having the things that most of yours have. That is what drives them. It was not meant to be intimidating. It was intended just to state that HHS will not get the carpet rolled out for them in Harlan County. We respect what they have done, but won't be bowing down to anyone.
I don't doubt that Ky_football, but I sure don't remember getting a million dollar donation at HHS to build a FOOTBALL FIELD anytime recently. We have some very generous donors, but nothing like that. We just watch our property tax bills skyrocket every year, and grin and bear it for the good of the schools. Congrats on your new facilties though. The kids deserve it.

T-BIRD, the dorms are right behind our bleachers. Unfortunately, we are going to have to tear them down when we get ready to expand David Cecil to accomodate some of our opponents wishes that we make our stadium more safe.......lol! Can't believe you've never seen them.
-
You won't get free reign Friday night (Maybe a little free rain). You will not get the red carpet treatment. You'll get dressed in a dungeon under the bleachers that will be wet and cold. Don't worry though. About 20 people can fit comfortably. Maybe your starters and coordinators and head coach can fit in there before the game. The music will be so loud in your ears that you won't like it. If you are lucky the sewage won't be backed upwith its remnants on the floor. Luckily, though if you have to use the restroom there are couple of port-o-johns outside the fence. Just a few things for you to look forward to Friday night. It will not be comfortable and will not be what you have been used to. Have a nice trip. There's no place like home.
Dark, wet, cramped and smelly. Just like Home for HHS. If that is supposed to be imtimidating to HHS, you obviously have never been in the HHS locker rooms. We like it that way. Us against the world mentality is what makes the HHS engine go.

Jeff Kremer...
That's it, man that guy ended up being one heck of a LB at UK. 4th on the all time tackles list still I think. But, alas, we went into the dark time of HHS football in the mid 80's and finally came out in 89, thank god, and haven't looked back since.

Highlands took a very, very mediocre team to Cawood in 1982 and sneaked out with a win. I do recall Cawood had a pretty good running back that had JJ Jude kind of mountain numbers. Any historians, Birdsfan you got your ears on? Go Birds 20n10
I thought that 82 team was the first HHS team was the first from HHS to break the USA TODAY Super 25? I thought they were undefeated and had a pretty good QB (sorry can't remember his name!) and a real good speedy runnning back. (Bankemper Maybe?) Anybody on here remember the name of that guy that played QB? I was just a little guy back then, but I remember that team well, but not well enought I guess!

The students, faculty and staff at BCHS doesn't care enough about athletics, let alone football, anymore to get rid of coach Thompson. It will be business as usual next year in Florence. Most of the students don't even know who is on the schedule for the football team week in and week out, and they certainly don't attend games.
-
I believe Harlan Co. will be more physical up front. If Highlands crowds the line, HC has two backs that can take it to the house.
Not sure how to take that statement. What do you mean by that? Not to sound too dumb, but, isn't that would HHS would do if they were getting manhandled on the line?

It is Class 6A.
Well played Ru.
-
The answer is ........................uh,......NO! The 5A Championship goes thru the Bluebirds this year, just as it has every year since there has been a 5A class. Come on Ru, I know you like to stir the Birds Nest up, but that is just a rediculous question.

Thanks for remembering me T-Bird!
