  1. You are spot on. I have eluded to this very thing time and time again and consistenly compliment th NC kids regardless of the sport. Heck, I guess I am sorta an alumn of sorts, LOL.

As for the Mexican, I am a big, big supporter of Coach Eviston and Coach Faust and believe it or not I play golf with a certain collar that has a tad bit of influence and say so as to who gets what on the hill.

WIth all this said, ole Sweep is not a NC hater at all as some on here suggest. I like to have fun at the expense of people who take things way too seriously. As the ole saying goes on the hill, the misinformed must repeat after me..............."We Believe", "We Believe"

Sweep, that was spoken like a man who has dipped into his own wallet for the cause a little too much over the years....lol!
  2. No, parents do not send their children to a school just to play football -- at least, not the sane ones. It just doesn't happen. A good education is not, God forbid, the "icing on the cake." Football should fill that role for any student. In the Ft. Thomas schools, we're blessed with the fact that sports (specifically, football) and academics are a package deal. So you can never say a parent chose the school for sports only.

You may find making sacrifices and not settling to be degrading to you, but it's simply telling the truth. It takes community commitment and personal sacrifice to produce a top-notch educational system. You mention Beechwood: yes, they do it right also. Your children may have, in fact, received a quality education elsewhere; however, that is not the point. Kids who come to the Ft. Thomas schools, do so for the total package, not just one element.

Ditto. I should have just read your reply before i shot my big fat fingers off.........lol!
  3. No, you are very wrong in your twist on my statements. I said, I, me. I have never heard one person talk about sending their son, not daughter, but son, to Highlands for an education. I did not say it doesn't happen. I did give kudos to Highlands for being a great school. For you to try and make it sound like Highlands doesn't get boys attending there for the soul purpose of playing football is kinda funny. It's not just Highlands, any top sports program will draw top athletes for sports. If they get a better education in the process that's just icing on the cake. I as well believe Beechwood would have a little something to say about Highlands being the obvious choice for a top notch non faith based education in NKY. And your comment about not settling and sacrifice, is a little degrading in my opinion. There are many families that cannot sacrifice enough to pay for tuition and transportation for their children to attend a school other than a public school. And not settling, my children all received good educations from public school. It is what you make of it, there are advanced and AP programs and classes available in public schools if you choose to guide your children into them as I feel you should. There are most of the time underlying reasons for the situation you spoke of, coming from Cincinnati to Ft. Thomas to receive a better education. Just as I know families from NKY that have sent their children to St. X in Cincinnati because of a better education. Like it of not, there are families that choose a school for their child or children, because of a sports program at that particular school . If they follow the KHSAA rules, more power to them.

First, I didn't say HHS was the ONLY choice for a top notch education, but rather an obvious one. Beechwood, along with a few other public schools in NKY are great academically and in athletics, but does not offer many of the programs and classes that a larger school offers. Also, Beechwood does not offer near as many sports for girls. My point being, that many more parents pay the tuition to go to HHS for academics rather then for athletics. You just don't hear about the kids that don't play sports at HHS like you do football team members. By sacrifice i meant that people often sell nice, newer homes to move to an older, smaller home and voluntarily pay higher taxes for the "privelage" to do so. I have two close friends who just did it last month before school started to be able to send their kids to Ft. Thomas schools. Happens all the time. People move, or pay tuition all the time for their kids educations. I bet if you really asked your friend why they are sending their kid to HHS they would probably tell you for the all around experience HHS offers their son. IF they don't, well, they are not sound parents in my eyes.

  4. I would have to believe that tradition and school support of a sport, or sports, has as much to do with it as any other factor. You would have a very difficult time convincing me that all of Trinity's top football players are there because of a Catholic Education. Highlands, another great scholastic school. I never hear out of district people talking about sending their sons there to get a top notch education. I hear them saying we are going there to play football. Beechwood the same thing. Throw NCC and CCH in the mix as well. I sat at the Campbell County, NCC game Friday night. There was a couple there that had a child at NCC and another child at Campbell County. Both boys, both do not play football. Talked to a friend of mine Wednesday at the Alexandria Fair Parade. She just sold her house in Alexandria, looking to buy in Ft. Thomas, as her son is already going to Highlands. Education was never mentioned in our conversation.Figure it out. If you live " in the county" as it is referred to here, and your goal is to get your child a good Catholic education. Why do you drive past Brossart, all the way to NCC or CCH. My point being, A winning tradition draws talent, talent in turn keeps the tradition alive. That along with administrators who want and enjoy that tradition, as well further enhance it by building a program that will support the tradition. Top talent as well as top coaching are drawn to well supported programs with winning tradition.
You would be extremely wrong in your assumption. Many, many kids come to HHS from out of district and pay tuition for academic purposes. There are in fact many more kids that pay tuition or move into the district for much more than athletics, or football specifically. If you want your kid to get a top notch education and you don't want to send your kid to a faith based school, then HHS is an obvious choice in NKY. I just talked to a family last night that moved to the Fort from the west side of Cincy that very reason. Let's be honest, winning breeds winning in both the academic and athletic pursuits that many families seek out for their children. It's more about not settling and sacrifice when it comes to your children.
  5. Then you better inform CNN, msnbc, abc, cbs ...... Sorry, thought I was on the politics forum.

Nowhere on BGP this year have I heard anyone mention the improvement Towles made in the off-season. His footwork, throwing mechanics, accuracy, timing and every other qb metric I can think of is vastly improved. He has become a very polished QB. After last season I wasn't completely sold on his ability to be a top flight D1 QB, but after the first two games of this year there is no doubt in my mind - especially if he can continue to improve at the rate he has over the past 12 months.

And there's another part of Towles I wish more people could see: how good he is with the little kids around the program. The child mangers obviously idolize the guy, and with them he has the patience and temperment of a individual much older than his actual years. Bodes very well for his future on and off the field. Disclaimer: I am not a coach.
I was talking to Drew Houliston's parents last night, and they mentioned how much PT mentors and helps their son (HHS backup QB) on both the football field and basketball court. They believe Drew is extremely lucky to have a young man like PT to provide him some guidance and friendship. Great for both of them.
  6. Ozzy bleeds Blue, and so does his family. That there is enough to tell me that there is no turning his back on an offer, any offer, to play for the Cats. Ozzy will do well and be just fine remaining in Blue and White for 4 more years. I will be more than happy to join in the tailgate with his dad and Uncles. Oh, and that wildman from Richmond!

  7. You're in for a real treat then. The stands are right on top of the visitor sideline which makes it very intimidating for opposing teams. Fans will be walking literally 5 feet behind your sideline throughout the game. You also have the "walk of champions" before you get in the stadium.

Get there early. Parking is horrible in Ft. Thomas and it's not uncommon for people to park as much as a mile away to attend a football game. Best option is to find a side street right near the stadium.

Really looking forward to this match up over the next two years both in the regular season and (hopefully) playoffs.

I wouldn't call it horrible. I would call a fall stroll thru the Fort a "Pleasant" experience. Seriously, it's just a different experience than your typical Friday night game routine.

  8. I really can't believe that you think he belongs in the same category as Simpson.

You might be surprised how good he could have been had he played RB all three years that he started. As it was, he only played about 2/3 of his Sr. year at the position and had some pretty good #'s in a very balanced attack that did not rely on the run like that of the offense that Miles Simpson played. Alot of ways to look at it. AC is apparently good enough of an athlete to be getting playing time at ND. Simpson may never see the field at UK. He may be getting recruited over as we speak. Hope not though, as I think he will be a good college RB.
