  1. Come on guys....A little common sense is needed here. Acemona is a history teacher, true blue and gold is a science teacher just as I am. All three of us are saying withold judgement here because you don't have enough information. We have no idea as to the context the teacher used this handout. Just because he/she did not let the students take the handout home means nothing. I have classroom only sets of materials that I don't let students take home. It has nothing to do with parents seeing the material, it is because the school I work for limits the number of copies I can make in a year. This is one of my biggest pet peeves as an educator. Teaching is the only profession where people other than our peers have input on how we do our jobs. Would you question how a cardic surgeon does his/her job? No because unless your a doctor your not qualified to question? Would you question how a civil engineer designs a bridge? No because unless your an engineer your not qualified to question? Why are teachers constantly under fire from people that are not qualified to make decisions on curriculum or how matterials are used to teach the curriculum? OK....sorry I'll get off my soapbox now. Just don't crucify this teacher until you know EXACTLY how that material was used.
  2. It's down to Danville and Somerset in the 12th. I haven't seen Somerset play this year, but I have seen Danville a couple of times. Danville will be tough to beat.
  3. Boys basketball seems to be on the upswing, but they really need someone that will provide some stablity in the girls program. I hope they hire someone who plans on staying long term, not another one or two year coach. As for the parent problems, my understanding is that the biggest parent problem graduated this past season, but when one goes, another seems to take his/her place.
  4. More information is needed here. What context was the teacher using this material?
  5. I'll ruffle a few cardinal feathers this morning, but unless they are playing the cats, I'll never watch a Louisville game. Sorry guys UK alumni. It's no fun unless there's an enemy.
  6. I dont have the KHSAA handbook with me at the house, but I'm positive its a rules violation. As for the penalty......KHSAA probably will never find out and the penalty will amount to a slap on the wrist for that coach. He'll get a nasty letter in the mail or even worse a phone call telling him never to do it again.
  7. To follow that up.....I dont understand why a hs coach would coach kids outside his/her own program? You would be developing kids for someone else. I have a few AAU coaches that I know personally and funnel my players to those coaches. Those coaches only coach during AAU season.
  8. High school coach can not coach kids in there own program after the season. They may coach middle school kids in their program as middle school kids do not fall under the KHSAA rules. If this assistant coach at Simon Kenton is coaching a 9-12 grade kid that is in his own program, it is my understanding that it would be a major rules violation.
  9. That is an absolute no-no. If you coached during the season the most you can do from March till June is hold open gym or conditioning workouts.
  10. Advanced kickball..........better known as soccer.
  11. Greg Edwards was the name I've been hearing for the Boyle job as well.
  12. Exactly.....It's harsh but the best players should play varsity sports reguardless of age. There are rec leagues for those that can't compete with the best athletes
  13. Micholob Ultra......I hate dieting. Would rather be having Woodford Reserve on the rocks.:ohbrother:
  14. Great move for the skins.....I don't understand what the eagles are thinking. Is Kolb that good??:idunno:
  15. I couldn't agree more with you. It shouldn't be about winning. I coach a varsity girls basketball team, and I'm lucky because my superintendent and principal understands that athletics are more than just winning and losing. I love my job because of that. With that said, most of my peers are under significant pressure to win games. How fair would it be for the principal or superintendent at a school tell a coach that they expect wins but the coach can't play the best players. :idunno:
  16. Excellent point --- but shouldn't those decisions be made better the parent and the head coach of the particular program???
  17. Anderson Co girls won the 8th region last season and started an 8th grader. The 6th man was a 7th grader. Rockcastle Co girls won the 12th region and made it to the state semi's playing an 8th grader at PG. She didn't start, but came into the game 2-3 mins in and played the rest of the game. That was the normal rotation.
  18. This is a great point!!!!! I have no problems with my son's middle school, but I know several other programs in the area. The best basketball players will not play for there middle school team if the coach is not compentent. Those "super athletes" as someone else called them will just play AAU basketball. That's when the HS program suffers because that kid has no connection to his school and will change schools when he gets to HS. The same thing happens in baseball. How many baseball players did not play middle school ball in Lincoln or Casey Co and opted to play summers with the Paul Morse Academy then transfer to play at Danville? More than the KHSAA would care to know about.
  19. My son is a legit 8th grader (Never been held back) and he starts for his varsity baseball team. He starts at second base and hits lead off. He is not starting on a team that needs to bring up middle kids. He starts over two seniors and several freshman. His team is currently 5-4. He is hitting .300 + with 5 rbi's. Why would you punish a kid with the talent to play a varsity sport because of his age? If a kid works hard enough and delevopes the ability to play at that level they should be allowed to play!!!! Just looking at it from my personal point of view, what would my son gain from another year of middle school baseball?
  20. Does anyone know how many middle school age girls started or played significant minutes on state tournment basketball teams this season? It was quite a few. This is an silly rule made by someone that has zero experence with athletics. Don't worry l-ville I don't think this will last long, but I believe it's illegal. No way can the school district make a rule like this and have it stick.
  21. The rumor that I've always heard is that parents at Boyle are unreal to deal with and the administration caves in to those parents. It's really a shame because with the perception that is out there about Boyle Co they are going to struggle to find ANOTHER good coach. When I first heard that David Christopher was resigning I assumed that his assistant Julie Muntz would take over, but she is not even going to apply for the position.
  22. I feel ya on the watching as much basketball as possible. I coach a team, and between my own games and scouting other teams in the region I bet I see at least 100 high school games per year. I do the AAU thing as well. Two of my girls are playing in an AAU tournament in Louisville this weekend. I love good baskeball as much as the next person. My biggest concern is that the NCAA is going to screw up and give us bad hoops that first weekend. I hope not though:idunno:
  23. Sorry for the mis information. Still just curious as to how many NIT teams were sub .500 in their conference. IDK this just doesn't feel right. Maybe I'm just resistant to change?
  24. 96 teams in a seeded tournament.......How bad are some of those first and second round games going to be? It's one thing to place a 30 win Murray State up against a power conference school, but with 96 teams there will be plenty of .500 or sub .500 teams in the field. I would have to check, but I believe that there are only 212 D-1 schools. The NCAA is basically letting 50% of the schools in. I'm all for more baskeball, but not this. This is going to be bad basketball. If this is about a cash grab (which it is) I'd rather see the NCAA go to a 32 team double elimination tournament. At least all 32 teams would have winning records.
