  1. Good point about "evening up" Regions 4 and 2...but I don't know if the KHSAA would favor doing that for the reason of evening up the districts over the extra amount of TRAVEL that would put on Berea since there's a closer district that could accomodate them and not go over having 6 teams. Longest trip if Berea's in Region 2 would be to Frankfort (a trip of roughly 1 hr. 15 min for them); if moved to Region 4 it would be to HARLAN -- easily over 2 and a half hours. Not sure about Evarts, Cumberland, and Cawood; I really felt pretty secure that they were going to be in Harlan Co. HS by the 07 season.
  2. Could be...again, I didn't have their enrollment numbers and I was basing my guess on someone else's previous guess on BGP that they would be 1A. Do you know their 9-12 total enrollment?
  3. If you mean for TRIMBLE, yes, possibly -- that would still give one district 5 and the other 6. Probably six of one, half-dozen of another...but I guess I thought it made more sense to put them in the district that would include a more traditional rival in other sports (Gallatin Co.) and NOT have to travel all the way down to Bardstown to play Bethlehem. If you meant Bishop Brossart, I'd disagree...that would leave a district (the Northeastern one) with only 4 teams (in this grouping of schools, SOMEBODY from Nky had to 'go east'...I'm not sure if BB is the "right one" geographically, I guess I just thought since the others have already had football and have already been playing against one another, they should stay together).
  4. Not sure where B.B. is exactly located, but that would be putting Trimble -- which is fairly close to L'ville in a district with teams in the Ashland area. I assumed (probably mistakenly) that B.B. was to the East of Covington.
  5. Good catch. The original list I was using from the KHSAA didn't have LCC on there. I think you're right that they'd be somewhere in 4A. Again, have no idea what the KHSAA would do with determining WHICH class would have an "extra school" beyond 43.
  6. By GEOGRAPHY (assuming limit of no more than 6 and no fewer than 5 teams in each district). I used the abbreviations on the left to allow me to more easily sort a spreadsheet into districts/regions. Can't say these are perfect, but they're as good as I could do with my limited Ky. geography knowledge and a Ky. county map. * Abbreviations: fw=far west; w=west; l=louisville; lsw=louisville southwest; sc=south central; b=bluegrass; n=northern; ne=northeast; e=east; se=southeast Region 1, District 1 fw Fulton City fw Fulton County fw Ballard Memorial fw Mayfield fw Crittenden Co. 8. Alright, the post below is only a PROJECTION. It is for ENTERTAINMENT purposes only and to give people a BROAD idea as to what MIGHT happen (but almost assuredly WON'T, due to the numerous reasons I'll go into below). It is admittedly going to be somewhat inaccurate for the following reasons: * It is based on enrollment numbers that were used to classify teams for the PREVIOUS cycle (all I had access to from the KHSAA website) ** many schools have undoubtedly gotten significantly larger or smaller since these numbers were posted 2 years ago ** the enrollment numbers I was able to use were for TOTAL enrollment -- rumor has it that they'll use MALE ENROLLMENT only this time * There are some schools that will be new schools playing football that I might have left out or put in the wrong class. ** I added Gallatin Co., Clinton Co., Bishop Brossart, and Jackson Co. and as 1-A schools based on other people's best guesses at their enrollment. ** I added Harlan Co. and estimated them at around the same enrollment as Clay Co. (total guess). I also took out Evarts, Cumberland, and Cawood. ** I left Harrodsburg in since nothing's official there yet. * This is ASSUMING... ** that the KHSAA goes with FIVE classes as this thread alludes ** that they do NOT use arbitrary enrollment numbers as dividers ** or that they allow for a "SuperClass" consisting of the schools with very large enrollments ** that the KHSAA decides to split them up based on the formula of 'the same number of SCHOOLS in each class' ** with the additions and deletions mentioned above (and admittedly, some might be in error), the total number of schools I have playing football is 216. ** 216 does not divide evenly by FIVE -- it would allow for FOUR classes of 43 schools and ONE class of 44 ** I have no way of knowing how the KHSAA would determine which of the five classes should have 44, but since it was only ONE, I made it be the MIDDLE class (3A). * ...and would be PRIOR TO any team "moving up in class" (if that were even to be allowed). I'll first post ALL FIVE CLASSES I was able to do based on the CURRENT enrollment numbers. Then, on a separate post, I'll divide the teams in each class geographically to allow one to see what districts/regions MIGHT be possible IF they were to be split in the way I've got it.

  10. So do you feel sorry for the "poor kids of Trinity or St. X" because their school of 1300 or 1500 boys has only ONE football team -- thus depriving all those "significant numbers of young people" the experience of playing football? Seems like they all seem to enjoy supporting a team that wins the state championship virtually very year. Until they decide it would be in their best interests to divide into two teams, doing something radical like the above is the only way to REALLY make up for what I feel is the biggest advantage they have. I don't see THEM doing that in the near future (nor do I blame them)...and it's starting to become obvious that none of schemes to "punish" them are going to achieve making 4A football any more competitive either. ...and, I personally believe in teaching young people the TOUGH lessons of COMPETITION. If you want to play football and you're good enough to start on many other teams but not good enough to beat someone out on YOUR team (like MANY of the 100+ players at X and T), you have two choices: quit and do something else (there are MANY other worthwhile things to do as a student-athlete besides football -- and I'm pretty biased!), or stay on the team and play an important role in some other way than on the field at game-time.
  11. Actually, I have looked at it; quite a bit. I have made a 6-class breakdown that is broken down by geography and enrollment. It portions into a "SuperClass" the ONE class that has a disparity such that ONLY the Top 16 have historically even MADE it to the state finals in that class (that being, the top 16 schools in the state in terms of enrollment). I also have what I think is the BEST solution to what I feel is the ONLY problem (that being the numbers disparity from largest to smallest teams in the top class) -- it involves allowing WHOLE COUNTIES to merge several of their schools into ONE team. That, I think, would allow for a similar number of boys to choose from as St. X and Trinity.
  12. Help! Need to know... 1) EXACTLY who all is FOR SURE going to be jumping into football that is NOT currently 2) which of those WILL be competing for district and which will not 3) an approximate TOTAL enrollment for that school (and whether it is coed or not). Thanks...
  13. I would say (based on what was said on this site in another post) that it was CONJECTURE by a reporter at THIS most-recent meeting that it was the *only* reason. However, this issue has been kicked around a LOT in the past. I've been in meetings before where there was (again another case of) CONJECTURE that "X and T being so close geographically but still meeting in the finals" was some kind of underhanded plot by the KHSAA to make more money since they get revenue from the FINALS and if they were to meet in any other playoff game they wouldn't. So, the conjecture in THAT discussion was that what's been in place for years (T and X being in opposite semi-states), was being done for the exact OPPOSITE reason as what was CONJECTURED to be the new direction. My point is that whatever is done with T and X, they are such high-profile, and so GOOD at what they do, that non-T/X people will always assume that whatever is done with them is somehow something the KHSAA is doing in FAVOR of them; while T/X people might think it's something the KHSAA is being pressured by others to do AGAINST them. Personally, I can see only arguments for keeping them apart until the finals... * the state has to be divided SOMEWHERE...and to divide it in Louisville (as it is now) makes a lot more sense, for instance than what happens in 2A -- where you could have a Finals game scenario between CORBIN (EASILY an "eastern" school) and MIDDLESBORO -- two teams that used to be in the same DISTRICT! * if in Louisville, what does it matter WHERE in Louisville? If putting X and T in opposite regions helps "balance out" the numbers in each, what's the harm? I think a lot of people that complain of "conspiracy" don't realize what has to get done in terms of NUMBERS-BALANCE in districts and regions and why LOUISVILLE is the easiest place to achieve this in 4A because of the sheer number of schools you have to split up. * if there really was some kind of "conspiracy," seems the KHSAA would've tried to figure out a way to put MALE in a district other than with Male -- maybe where they'd have to face each other in the SEMI-FINALS rather than a regional championship. * if you've got two programs that are PERENNIALLY the two best (hard to make any argument otherwise for the last 30 years), why NOT have them separate until the finals if you can? People that complain there's a "conspiracy" should actually realize that if X and T met BEFORE the finals, they'd have a game at Papa John's where THEY could split the revenue, rather than the KHSAA getting the gate (in other words, they could argue that "the rich are getting richer" -- LITERALLY!).
  14. I LOVE the idea of allowing teams to PLAY UP -- no more complaining by some schools that size-disparity wouldn't affect THEM; anybody can then move to the largest class and see just what it would mean to play teams 5 weeks in a row in the playoffs with DOUBLE or more numbers of boys to choose from than you. And Leatherneck's approach seems, to me, to be the right way to do things if playing up is an option. It could end up that one class ends up having more 5-team districts than the class above them or below them; but compare that to the current situation, where there are several districts with EIGHT teams in them and a few with only FOUR. The "sealed envelopes" idea would be the right way to avoid schools moving just to get a competitive advantage. And I really like the idea of giving the team that could be "moved down" the option rather than just doing it without their knowledge. ...now, if they'd just give the COACHES and PLAYERS that have to use them the "option" of which BALL to use in the playoffs!:fire:
  15. That's what I was referring to (I should have stated it had to be BACKWARDS) Had it done against me a few years back...totally legal I was told.
  16. My understanding is an ineligible numbered receiver may also catch a pass behind the line of scrimmage.
  17. Not sure, but I do know Max Pafunda of Pikeville bested Blume in a 100m heat just before spring break. (Somebody said Blume was complaining of an injury just following the race though; so he may have been hampered??) Max is our kicker (and a HECK of one at that); he plays soccer so we don't really get to see that speed on the football field (except for the leg-speed used in kicking the ball). But is a great kid, a hard worker, and appears to be one of the kids to watch in the Single-A state track meet this year. His ambition is to get a shot at a D-1 soccer scholarship for next year (not many scholarships out there for kickers in football, unfortunately)...I don't know much about what D-1 soccer coaches look for, but with the kind of speed, athleticism, and size/strength he has (5'11, 180), I'd think he would be someone they'd want to look at.
  18. Amen! We have several of the girls' basketball team working out DURING the "football" workout after school not to mention girls' bball, softball, track, and volleyball taking advantage of it all day in advanced PE classes. The region champ Magoffin County girls bball team was a REALLY strong group of girls when we played them and I know that inspired a lot of our good young girls to realize the importance of STRENGTH on the basketball court.
  19. A little luck along with the hard work never hurts. Thanks.
  20. We just do our things that require more movement (Power Cleans, Power Press, etc.) just outside the racks on the floor space available there. I've never really understood the "platform" thing unless you've got bare concrete floors or something. Is the benefit of those the wooden floor your feet are on? I've always thought you get better foot-traction from the rubber mat myself. One drop of sweat on slick wood seems like a recipe for disaster to me...but I've never used one so I'm not sure.
  21. Like I said, the "old" stuff wasn't bad stuff...just didn't allow us to maximize space. Come by and let's talk about some of those pieces your dad had a part of...NONE of these things will end up "scrapped." Maybe the ones he had a part of can find the most appropriate "home" outside PHS???
  22. ...and last but not least, a GREAT tool in managing resistance THROUGHOUT the range of motion of a lift -- StretchBands from JUMPSTRETCH (another Ohio company that actually has a patent on these "rubber-band-like" implements). Oh, and a thing or two that really seemed to help our kids on the field this spring...
  23. Thanks; again, great design on these racks by THE EQUIPMENT GUYS -- an outfit out of Ohio that does really good AND CUSTOMIZED work.
  24. This may be the MOST important for football-application of all that strength built in those racks... ...thanks to our EXTREMELY SUPPORTIVE custodial staff, we also got these VERY WELL-MADE plyo boxes ranging from 16" up to 42" (a BIG accomplishment when our kids can make it up on this baby flat-footed; really makes them work harder on the EXPLOSIVE exercises...and we've got 5 LINEMEN that are able to get up there so far).
