  1. No idea. If it was anyone else, I would have been sick to my stomach. I'm just glad that I won't have to hear NaOnka talk for a couple of weeks. I can't stand her.

    Amen!!!

I don't think they should even be part of the jury. I think they should be removed altogether!

  2. The Union Raiders were not picked by the High School coaches. I don't even believe there was a 'pick' or a selection process, a group of parents got together and put a 'select' team together. The team was not affiliated with the BCPWFL in any way. They did compete in the NKY Middle School football league as a 'first year team' and were not a full fledged member (meaning they just played the teams, etc.). I believe they are going to be a full fledge member this year. The team is made up of kids that attend Gray Middle School and a couple from other middle schools who will feed into Ryle High School. The team was organized as an AAU team and played teams from Lexington, Dayton OH, Middletown, etc..

  3. You want some entertainment check out the sixth grade group; the magician had some double pump free throws and I need a morphine pump. The state of the bball program is on life support:cry:

LOL. I honestly thought they were trying to draw a lane violation on the free throw attempts.

That lasted one whole game. It was determined by the powers-that-be that a first year coach handling 15 boys at practice and games is better than having a parent get involved and help out the program. Sometimes the decisions that are made by our school systems leave me scratching my head.

Just to let you know that HMS is not the only school going through this same situation. One coach (in practice and during games) for 15 boys is a lot to ask for and to not allow a parent to 'help out' or at least track minutes, Time outs, fouls, or even be a sounding board for the head coach is just not in anyones best interest.

As for the games, the 6th grade Gray v. HMS game was not even competitive. The majority of the Gray starters didn't even play the second half.

The 7th grade game was good, Moss and the big boy from HMS are both very good players. The game could have gone either way. As for the score being incorrect, can't the visiting team put a book person on the scorer's table as well? Or, at least on the bench to bring situations like this up immediately instead of having parents yell across the gym to the coach and have the score book person come out of the stands to go over to check the score? Just an observation. I truly don't know if the score was updated incorrectly or not, but not having someone over there to immediately bring it up kind of makes it difficult to review.

The 8th grade game was good as well and could have gone either way.

Good luck to both teams and programs as the season progresses.

  4. I believe Ryle coach Bryson Warner has done an outstanding job as he continues to push this program forward. He continues to set higher goals. He wants his team to play a tougher schedule. He offered to schedule Highlands twice a year, because he wanted to play the best school in northern KY. Highlands has a great program and this is where every high school would like to be as far as championships. He sets the bar high for his kids. Congrats to coach Warner keep driving forward.

Per my post in another thread about feeder programs and Coach Warner....... I agree with you 100% KY Rebel, Coach Warner and the whole Ryle program has done an outstanding job and they continue to push the program forward! A perfect case in point was this years Union Raiders football team.

I thought the best thing about the Union Raiders was the relationship they had with the Ryle varsity team. Whether it was Coach Warner inviting the team into the locker room prior to varsity games, having them walk out on the field with the varsity team prior to games, standing on the sidelines with the team, personally attending the Union Raiders games, having the varsity players help out with practice, sharing their practice field (and game field), sharing their locker room, allowing the Union Raiders to run similar (or the same) offense as the varsity team and even allowing the Union Raiders to have the same helmet decal as the varsity team. All in all, it was a great experience it seemed for the boys of the Union Raiders and a lot of the credit goes to the Ryle varsity coaching staff, Rick Scherrer, Ted Morgan, and all the assistant coaches for making the inaugural season of the Union Raiders, in my opinion, an overwhelming success.

Not to mention the team was very good and won a ton of games!!!

I believe the Ryle program is going to be in good hands for years to come with the progression that has been established with the Union Raiders. These boys said time and time again how they couldn't wait to play all the way through high school together.

  5. I'm sure all of you have see Varsity Blues. In the movie there are pictures of the players playing together their whole careers from peewee level. They were influenced by the high school team since being in K or 1st grade. They dreamed of playing for the varsity squad TOGETHER. I grew up playing peewee in Ohio. When I came to Kentucky I was not the only player who didn't know everybody on the team. Then once high school came along I again did not know my whole team. That is what these boys are missing. They are missing the brotherhood. Someone put in another thread about a young man saying his team has dreamt about this TOGETHER for 10 YEARS. In the Boone County progam they only get to dream TOGHETHER for 4 years. That is the difference. BCPWFL needs to set up teams for certain high schools and get rid of the "draft" or just fold. I'm very excited to see what the Union Raiders and other feeder progams produce.

  6. Games this week?

Attended the Gray boys games against Summit View Tuesday night.

    Gray swept all three games

    6th Grade

    Gray 49

    Summit 19

Recap: Gray's size and strength dominated Summit.

    7th Grade

    Gray won big, no details

    8th Grade

    Gray 36

    Summit 35

Recap: Summit led throughout the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters, Gray caught them at the end. Good game, exciting finish.

Tonight Gray boys play at home against Highlands. Any other games this week?

  7. This will be the last thing you see this season. Boone Co will run a deliberate offense........ even when they had 3 pt shooters in the past they didnt utilize them or McQueary likely frowned upon them.

    I 100% agree with you Qryche11

Who honestly is a 3pt threat on this team?

I really don't know, can Downs shoot? What about the new guys? If you can knock down the outside shots it will at least make teams come out a little bit, especially since they run that motion offense. I'm thinking teams are going to pack it in on Boone if they can't hit some outside jumpers. Just my thought.

Where did McQuery coach before coming to Boone? How did he do there? How long has he been at Boone?

  8. It could happen but I'd be surprised if Ryle has 24 at the half the way SK's defense has been playing but I'd say that is possible.

Agreed, 24 at the half may be a bit on the high side.

I just see how Ryle has been playing the last month (with everyone it seems at full strength or as close as you can be at this point in the season) and just don't see them being denied at this point.

    Go Raiders!!!

  9. The football team finishing early was a bonus for the basketball program because the football players are able to get an early start this year in getting their basketball legs. Boone has a scrimmage against an "athletic" Colerain team (I guess that description depends on who's looking at them), and that should be a good challenge for them to start with.

    That's a very good point.

When is the scrimmage and where? I dont' see it listed on the website.

In your opinion, how many players do you think will see regular action for the Rebels (how deep will Coach go)?

  10. Not totally sure, but I do believe they run the same system from freshman level up.

If they don't, they should. It would make logical sense to.

With all the success from the Freshman and JV teams and the success of the varsity team, it looks like Boone is in good shape for the next few years. Let's hope that with the 'new' guys they can get over the hump and win the region this year. Heck, I might be out on a limb, however, with Conner and Ryle seemingly headed towards successful seasons, getting out of the 33rd district may be more difficult than winning the region.....

Is Boone looking at having 4 new starters this year (with Brown being the 6th man last year)? It may take some time to gel early in the season. It looks like 2 of their first 4 games are against Ryle and Conner. It should be interesting to see how they fair early in the season with the big turnover in the starting line up.

  11. Can we get some positive output from members about the expectations of Boone for 2010/2011?

Regardless of what some people think, i'm sure this team will go out each night and fill a gym with some athletic high school basketball players and have a decent season. I look forward to seeing the new additions to the team, and how they mix in with the Greg's style of play. This is a complete team of players that have won the past freshman, and JV championshps. I know someone will say that doesn't mean anything, but it has to say something about the ability/chemistry of this years group.

Not being familar with the Freshman and JV programs at Boone as I would like to be, do those teams run a different offense than the varsity team? I would think all three teams would run the same type of offense to ease the transition from one team to the next. Is this not the case?

  12. Like the first two rounds, Ryle wins comfortably......

Hempel and Elliott with big nights and the DB for Ryle (#24 I believe) that had the three interceptions last week against Campbell gets two more this Friday night in Union.

    Ryle - 38

    Simon Kenton - 22

And that is with a late score by SK to make it remotely close.

    24 - 6 at the half Raiders.

  13. Bill Laimbeer was one of the MOST Unathletic athletes that I have ever seen play basketball. Amare Stoudemire=Athletic. Some people just don't grasp "it".

You mean to tell me that Bill Laimbeer, a professional NBA basketball player, is not athletic? You've got to be kidding me!! Oh, that's right, his uncle owns the Pistons and that's how he got the gig!!! Give me a break. If I didn't know better, I would say you two are just trying take the opposite position because you are going to disagree with anything a Boone supporter is going to post.

Bill Laimbeer does not fit this definition: ATHLETIC- of or pertaining to athletes; involving the use of physical skills or capabilities, as strength, agility, or stamina?

He didn't have physical skills? Capabilities as strength, agility or stamina? Wow, it's incredible how you think.

And yet, he was still a KEY COG in winning NBA Championships for the Pistons and a FOUR TIME NBA ALL-STAR!!!! Yeah, I'd say we have a different definition of 'athletic' alright. Your definition is WRONG! My goodness, a 4 time NBA All Star and yet, you feel he is still not athletic.

What the heck does that say about the rest of the NBA? Or, is an NBA All Star not a good gauge?

    Career Stats:

    15 year NBA career

    12.9 points per game

    7.9 rebounds per game

    4 time NBA All Star

We're not the one who doesn't grasp 'it'......

  14. Not that I thought in a million years I would be posting about Larry Bird and Trevan Brown in the same thread and comparing the two, however.... :D

    Per Dictionary.com

ATHLETIC- of or pertaining to athletes; involving the use of physical skills or capabilities, as strength, agility, or stamina:

I'd say this definition pertains to both Larry The Great and Trevan The Great, errrr, Trevan Brown as being athletic

  15. Some people are so sensitive. My reference was to the 3 big projected starters - not Montgomery or Downs or Stanley.

I like Boone's team and their coach unlike many of the Boone fans. I don't ever recall making any negative comments about Boone athletes. Since you have publicly accused me I challenge you to find any negative statements I've made .

P.S. Stating that someone is not "athletic" is not a negative statement. Larry Bird was not "athletic."

Heck, I disagree with this statement..... It must just be me..... Perhaps, I'm to sensitive, however, to say Larry The Great wasn't athletic is as inaccurate as it gets!!

  16. I guess we have different definitions. Again it's not a criticism. He's a big strong kid who posts well. He's not going to be on the front of the zone trap defense.

I don't know how much Trevan weighs, however, if I had to guess not many 6'3", 240 pound athletic kids are at the the front of the zone trap defense. In my opinion, that would not be his role, or I wouldn't think that would be his role on the team. However, to say he is not athletic is in incorrect statement. He has very quick feet and always seems to be where the ball is to get rebounds and put backs and easy buckets. Athletic kids can also be physical kids who like to bang.

If you look at his stats from last year per minutes played, he has to be doing something right to get all those rebounds and points. He needs to be on the court this year as much as possible. In my opinion, he was VERY underutilized last year on the Rebels team.

  17. Walton 6th grade did a good job running their plays and motion offense (very well coached). They looked like they've been in the gym for awhile and a step ahead of Gray in terms of running plays, etc..

There was some good basketball talent on display during the 6th grade scrimmages. It should be a great season!!!
