  1. I would think it would be Ryle's decision if this game is played. They won the last game and are in the driver's seat. If CovCath would've won, then it would be their call.

I disagree. The regular season is just that, the regular season, then the teams with the best records should play for the Championship after the 9 game regular season ends.

It makes no sense for the team that won the regular season match up to decide if a Championship Game should be played or not.

Don't you think matchup's, plays, etc., were held back in the match up last week in anticipation of playing again in the Championship Game?

  2. No one else has any chance at all versus Ryle. Cov Cath is pretty clearly the second best team. If I were Ryle, I would want to play CCH again to prove to any doubters that we are the best freshman team.

Is there talk about not having a Championship Game this year since Ryle defeated CCH in the regular season? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me, however, I am new to freshman football and don't know how it is done. To me, both teams probably held some stuff back anticipating the Championship Game. Perhaps not.

  3. This is a great idea and could very easily be done. However, Dale or the school are not interested in having anything that has to do with the cannon associated with the school.:irked::banghead::angrybird_13: Maybe if more people talked about it and talked to the school about, they would think about it.:idunno:

I am far from a Highlands fan, hated the cannon going off while on the opposing sideline, etc.. However, I think it would be pretty cool if they showed a cannon going off on the video board when (if, lol) they score. Even if it is a graphic (cartoon) cannon and not a real video.

Dale/school are worried about the political correctness of it, I guess? :idunno:

The world we live in today.....

  4. Only because CovCath had so many injuries, otherwise Bye and Bye's JV would have taken a beating at the hands of the Colonels.

The only reason the Bye's JV game was canceled was because of a field conflict and it was canceled weeks in advance. If you take a look at Bye's JV schedule, you can't even see it listed. Geez!

I haven't checked Max Preps yet to see if Bye JV has CCH JV scheduled. I will keep you posted.

  5. Didn't realize Hunter was the frosh QB at Dixie. I'll talk to Bob and see how Hunter is doing so far.

Thanks, and I want to correct my spelling.... It's Hunter Meyer.

I saw him a few weeks ago (great kid!), he looks like he has shot up a couple inches, probably 6'1 - 6'2" now. Good athlete and will be a stud on the court and on the football field for the Colonels over the next few years.

  6. So, against the other two Boone Co Freshman teams, Cooper has been outscored 87 - 0.

    Conner 33

    Cooper 0

    Ryle 54

    Cooper 0

The Cooper faithful still don't believe it has anything to do with the coaching? I was told the score was 40 -0 at the end of the first quarter..... Sounds like the Raiders called off the dogs early in this one.

  7. Very good game- probably a little Karma with the last hold as the CCH nose was getting held all night.

Highlands basically lined up and ran power football off tackle all night and were fairly succesfull with it.

CCH offense was hit and miss. Dropped a sure fire TD in the end zone. Probably should have been 21-6 or 21-13 at worst. Angel was a stud catching the ball. Tony Hentz has done an admirable job in his role- threw some ill advised balls tonight, but had some very nice tosses as well. Not too many teams can role out their back up QB and go 4-0. Nice luxury to have. Having said that, this team will take it to another level offensively with CVH.

Defensively both teams were laying the wood. I'll say this- whoever said CCH appeared soft on defense only had to see a little of this game to think otherwise. Shelton had a monster block on #35- I hated to see that kid go- he is a player. I think the other RB (#17?) was also knocked out late. Thoughts and prayers are with those boys and all the boys who got dinged up and who played their hearts out.

I expected nothing less from a Cov Cath and Highlands game- no matter what level.

Does anyone have Hentz stats (tonight and season)? I believe he had 2 TD's and 2 INT's tonight. He had to be close to 200 yards passing tonight. The 2 INT's tonight, I believe, were his first of the season through the first 4 games.

Unless I am mistaken (I am sure someone will correct me if I am), however, I believe #35 (Poulsford ?) got injured while attempting to tackle Angel on the sideline after one of his catches. It was a big collision between the two. #35 went down and remained down for a lengthy period of time. He looked extremely unsettled on his way back across the field after the injury. Does anyone have an update on his condition? He is a very good player for the Birds. Hopefully, he is ok.

Big interception at the end of the game by Thiel to help seal the victory for the Colonels. Nice TD receptions by France and Angel (who had to have over 100 yards receiving). A ton of tackles for Kuhr and Shelton for the Colonels.

Good Luck to both teams the rest of the season.

  8. How does this happen? I thought Cooper had a feeder program?

How does this happen you ask, in my opinion, it's the coaching. Cooper does have a feeder program, however, don't blame the feeder program (not that you are) for the freshman coaching and philosophy. The Union Jags have a very solid program, and last years 8th grade team was very good, however, it seems to me that there is a serious disconnect between the development of the players in the 8th grade to what happens when they are on the freshman team. It looks like, to me anyway, the freshman coaches have players out of position and the instruction that these boys received as 8th graders just isn't there anymore (tackling for one).

This frosh team did take a big step backwards from game 1 to game 2.

Hopefully, they can get things turned around in Union and the Jags can have a successful campaign the rest of the season.
