  1. Thanks HawksFan!!

This is exactly what I was looking for....... :thumb:

And I believe someone posted that there will be referees, a 16 minute clock/half, etc..

I would think, with the running clocks the games pretty much run on time? :idunno:

  2. Great game!!! Congrats to the Cru!!!

I watched the match on Ihigh and they did a great job. It ran about 45 seconds behind the actual game, however, the announcers did a good job and the camera guys did a great job.

They are broadcasting the finals Saturday as well.

The announcers were saying Libby Leedom made first team All-State? Is that posted somewhere? That's an impressive feat for a Sophomore!!! Did any other of the Cru make All-State?

Here is the link for the Ihigh broadcast: http://www.ihigh.com/khsaa/

Good Luck Saturday ladies and bring back the State Championship Trophy!!!!

    :dancingpa:dancingpa:dancingpa

  3. I hear what your saying but Towles made some smart decisions in getting down or out of bounds. There is no reason to take hits when you dont have to. In Hempel's case, he was taking on defenders because he had to in most instances. He ran the ball like he had to get to the yard marker on every carry. Towles was taking what they were giving him and living to play another play if you will.

IMO after Ryle's first loss to Highlands they have had that game last night circled and been staring at it all year. The Birds on the other hand not so much. It was just another game against a worthy opponent and a prep for the playoffs.

    Oh please.....

IMO, Ryle was treating this game as a 'scrimmage' to prep for the playoffs and was still able to pull it out...... lol.

Come on, it was a great game between two very good teams with very good players and very good coaches. To say it was just another game for HHS is a little on the absurd side. It was a big game for them as well as it was for Ryle.

Hopefully both teams play well in the upcoming weeks and advance deep into the playoffs.

  4. I believe Highlands reign at the top of NKY football takes a bit of a hit this Thursday night in Union.

    Ryle - 28

    Highlands - 27

Hempel and Elliott both play well and Ryle plays the 'complete' game.

Elliott rushes for 165 and 2 TD's, Hempel throws for 200 and 1 TD.

Wow, great game, in checking the 'predictions' thread I was wondering if anyone came close to predicting this outcome.... Look, I found one, as I pat myself on the back.....

I thought a big key to this game was the reaction of the Ryle coaches/players after the opening kickoff was run back for the Birds. Everyone remained calm and from where I was seated remained focused for the Raiders, there was no finger pointing or scambling around on the sidelines. It looked like business as usual. That play could have easily thrown the Raiders for a loop 15 seconds into the game. Kudos to the young men and the coaching staff for sticking to the game plan.

I thought Hempel played an extremely good game managing the running game, passing game and the clock and Ryle's defense was very good (up until the last 8 minutes when Highlands began spreading them out and throwing / scrambling). However, when the play needed to be made on the 2 point conversion, the Raider defense stood tough!!!

Congratulations Raiders and good luck to both teams in the playoffs!!!

  5. Problem with double teams at MS is room. 6 basketball teams is only 1 hour nightly for practice. That gets the last team home after 9PM on school nights. Additionally, room for wrestling and 4 cheer squads. KCS requires several certifications for coaches. Age, college hours, CPR/AED/FA and new Emergency Medication Training. Add in no salary and background checks really makes it hard to find someone to coach a B team. Watch Summit View 6-7-8 boys. Minor-Hawkins-Franzen a very good trio of boys coaches. SK Girls former standout Lauren Conley coaching a good group of 7th girls.

Excellent point, trying to get gym time for all the teams is a major issue. I've seen schools 'rent' gym time at SOAS, etc., and it gets very expensive and quick!

It should be an interesting middle school season.

Is there a middle school website with schedules, scores, standings?

  6. There was also no coverage of NDA vs Highlands soccer. It's interesting, you will find football articles all week long but very little coverage of all the volleyball and soccer being played. Image how participants of golf, tennis, and swimming feel....practically no coverage.

Sorry, I missed that 'conflict' in my post. FYI, I just saw this posted on nky.com.

    http://nky.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20101021/SPT0302/10220385/

I'm sure this doesn't help the arguement.... lol.

  7. I'm thinking the issue is more with volleyball competing against soccer for coverage during districts and regionals than it is 9th region versus 10th region. However, I see your point, I don't recall seeing ANYTHING about the 10th region volleyball tournament in the paper outside the scores. By the way, Congrats to your Breds on their victory last night!!!

Is there a way to coordinate the days for the games to be played in order to limit the conflicts between the 9th and 10th regions and volleyball versus soccer? Last night for example, you had St. Henry soccer and St. Henry volleyball both playing at the same time and at the same time as the 10th region volleyball finals!!! I know you can't plan for every scenerio, however.....

I'm sure the enquirer only has a certain number of resources that are able to cover High School sports in NKY and when volleyball and soccer play on the same day at the same time it makes it difficult. Just my opinion.

Last night you had 9th region volleyball semi finals (no coverage); 9th region girls soccer finals (St. Henry v. Simon Kenton) with coverage and the 10th region volleyball finals (no coverage).

Was the 10th region volleyball finals at Harrison County? Do you think that comes in to play, ease and convenience for the enquirer?

I wonder if there will be any conflicts Saturday night with NDA v. St. Henry in the 9th region volleyball finals. I'm hoping Marc Hardin gets the call to do the coverage, he does a GREAT job covering High School sports in NKY.

Anyway, just my two cents worth. Good Luck to the Breds next week!!!

  8. http://nky.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20101021/SPT0302/10220386/Crusaders-get-region-3-peat

Congratulations to the Lady Crusaders on their victory last night over Simon Kenton 3 - 0 to win the 9th Region crown AGAIN!!! What a year they are having, 20 - 2 - 1!!!! Impressive ladies!!!

Also, congratulations to Libby Leedom on scoring two more goals in the finals. Paper shows her with 30 goals this year, in only 23 games, nice work! :thumb::thumb: Is she leading NKY / KY in goals?

Where's the love for the goalkeeper? No mention in paper about the shutout.

Good Luck to the Cru next week against Bourbon County!!

Was there an All Region team?

  9. http://nky.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20101021/SPT030201/10220383/Colonels-QB-is-catching-on

Great article in the paper today about Covington Catholic Quarterback Blake Bir. Very well written and some well deserved recognition for Blake and the Colonel program. What a great kid and an even better family. It looks like the QB position is in good hands over the next few years!

Good Luck to Blake and the Colonels tonight against Dixie

  10. Is ND the favorite to come out of this region?

Flip of the coin with NDA / St. Henry.

It looks like it could come down to a rubber match between the two schools (assuming both make it to the finals. I would think both are favored to make it to the Championship Match Saturday night).

St. Henry was victorious over NDA in Louisville and NDA returned the favor at NKU. It should be interesting.....

  11. Are any of the first round matchups going to be good?

Tuesday Night should be better than Wednesday in my opinion.

Ryle v. Villa should be the best first round game by far. Ryle should pull it out, however, it could be closer than people expect (IMO).

Don't underestimate Holy Cross, however, NDA should cruise.

    St. Henry will roll Ludlow.

Scott should handle Boone with relative ease.

Again, this is just my opinoin.

  12. All Games at Scott High School

    NDA v. Holy Cross - Tuesday @ 6:30pm

Ryle v. Villa - Tuesday after NDA/Holy Cross match

    St. Henry v. Ludlow - Wednesday @ 6:30pm

Scott v. Boone Co. - Wednesday after St. Henry v. Ludlow match

    Thursday:

    NDA/HC winner v. Ryle/Villa winner @ 6:30pm

    St. Henry/Ludlow winner v. Scott/Boone Co. winner

    Saturday:

    Championship Match @ 6pm

    Thoughts? Predictions?

  13. "Forcing the team to adapt to his style" really doesn't sound like a successful way to run a program. So you would tell your team; I'm sorry kids, we don't have one player over 6', but we're going to continue to run our post up offense 90% of the time because that's my system.

    :thumb::thumb: Well said!

Also, as for the earlier post about the parent standing next to the coach yelling negative 'stuff'. I've been to a bunch of Boone games over the past 5 years as well and have not seen this behavior once. However, I've missed a game or two, so perhaps I missed it. However, if that did occur, I agree, that is totally unacceptable!

  14. Boone's system works great. Just look at McQueary's recent success on the court. He has done a great job with the players he was been dealt. I believe Gabbard and McFarland are both playing college ball. He has also coached some other good athletes; Cotton (baseball), Brown (football). IMO, he has done a great job with his program. He runs a very disciplined system that demands player's respect and attention to detail. I know he has had to fight lots of outside pressure since he took over and has succeeded in spite of all the outside distractions. Kudos to Coach McQueary.

RE - Does he run a disciplined 'system' or 'style of play' that demands the players' respect? I'm only kidding. At the end of the day, for a coach, it's about W's and L's, and his record supports it. Now, I really quit!!

Let's get back to the Top 10 players in NKY. Just keep the Boone player on the list and we won't get off on a tangent!!!! lol.

  15. My point is that you're saying AAU style of play should be implemented in 9th region ball because of how well it works in AAU in the summer. However, once the high school season starts defenses are completely different (ie actually thought about and implemented) as compared to the up-and-down AAU season. Your point IMO would only be valid if 9th region teams played the same lackluster D as is played in AAU. It's not, thus, you need to come up with something to attach real defenses.

Again, the "system" that Boone runs puts up as many or more points on a consistent basis than any other top team in NKY so what's the issue?[/QUOTE]

The issue is that Boones 'style of play / system' doesn't utilize their players (Montgomery, Brown, Cotton, Popp, Gabbard, etc.) abilities to the fullest. Does it win games? Yes. Does it take away practice from the lay up line? Yes.

Now, I quit. I'm taking my 'style of play / system' and going home. lol.

PS - Clyde, I do agree with your assessment of AAU v. 9th region basketball in terms of 'lack of defense', etc. and needing to design offenses to attack defenses.
