  1. I would move Brown to number 2. And the gap between 1 and 2-5 is very big IMO. If Geisler doesn't win by a wide margin, the voters should be ashamed.

I also would say that Trevan Brown is a pretty clear choice at #2 for me. He is having an incredible season and leading a Boone team that lost Montgomery to a good year.

Do you really think this is in doubt? Geisler was pre season choice for POY and has been great all year long. NCC is without a doubt the surprise team of the season and it is because of him. I just don't see any possible argument for someone other than Geisler.

    3 excellent posts VOR!!!!

Gielser is living up to (and surpasing) the Pre Season expectations. No doubt he is POY.

I also agree that Trevan Brown is #2. He has really led the Rebels to a very good year and especially with Montgomery going down. When, and I don't know, was the last time a Rebel basketball player averaged more than 20 points a game? I'd say it has been awhile! I'm glad to see Brown finally getting some love!!! In my opinion, he has been under utilized at Boone for the past couple years.

  2. I thought the show as a whole was pretty cool.

I set the DVR to record all future 'Policewomen of Cincinnati' episodes. I thought they all had pretty good personalities. I don't think the one liked being called 'baby'!

Yeah, the 28 year old Grandma looked like she had been around the block a time or two. She's not aging to gracefully!

  3. Gym time is an issue. But alot of the teams that I see with 15 are from Middle Schools that have a total of six BB teams to share the gym(3 boys and 3 girls). The school that my kids go to have 20 plus teams to share one gym( 3rd thru 8th grade boys and girls rec and select). Once the NKYMSL starts we are lucky to get 1 practice a week. Your 3 points are valid, but when there is a will there is a way.

Agreed. Just need to figure it.:idunno:

  4. Not that this is the case with HMS, but i see alot of miiddle school teams with 14 or 15 players on them. That is just setting the coach up for problems. Parents often hear and see what they want to hear and see. Why not have 2 teams of 7 or 8?

In my opinion, SCHOOL gym time, SCHOOL qualified coaches and SCHOOL leagues. There are only so many hours in a day the gym is available for practice, qualified coaches available to coach and available leagues available. I guess an alternative to this would be to have the 'B' teams play in a SOAS league which may solve some of the issues for league and gym time. Doesn't SOAS provide an hour per week for practice?

  5. False, definately finishing out the year and planning on returning next year.

For those interested the 7th grade coach, who is experiencing many of the same problems, is planning on returning.

I have said this many times before. An expectation of equal playing time on a "tryout" team is unrealistic. My son's middle school coach told the group of parents that he would try to get everyone as much playing time as possible, but that the league is competitive and playing time will be earned, not equal. Both the 6th and 7th grade coaches told their teams the same speech, as it was information handed down by the varsity coach. Parents were told to please not contact the coach about playing time issues. This message must have fallen on deaf ears.

The complaining needs to stop. Encourage your son to work hard in practice. Encourage your son to go to the Armory and play on the weekends. Encourage your son to ask the coach specific drills to work on, and then go do it. Find your son a team to play on this spring and summer. These are the things that will increase his playing time, if not this season, maybe next.

    Amen Stink!!!

And this does not just go for HMS but ALL middle schools!!! Very well said!! :thumb:

  6. If that rebound takes place with 7 minutes left instead of at the buzzer is the whistle blown? I say without a doubt!!!

I think the refs were officating with the clock in mind and didn't want to 'determine' the outcome of the game by blowing the whistle and putting Georgia on the line to win it..

    Just my opinion.

  7. Hopefully, the weather doesn't come into play on Friday, however, how big is the Cooper / Boone Co. game now?

Cooper seems to be on the upswing and Boone is kind of leveling off. I know they met in the LIT and it was close throughout with Boone pulling away in the end.

Congrats to Cooper on this win. Should be interesting on Friday in Florenece. Cooper is right in the mix for the district!!

I agree about Coach Sullivan. I've only seen Cooper play a couple times this year and he coaches from tip to last whistle. I'm sure the boys love playing for him.

  8. It looks like Brown with another STRONG game (31 points) and Crabtree stepping up with 14. I was at a middle school game last night and unable to attend, however, McQuery with only 1 three pointer? How many did he shoot? Did they go box and one to shut him down? Any game recaps?

Any updates on Montgomery? It seems when he was in the lineup they had a little bit more of a balanced attack. Of course, it could just be this one game. It looks like they are 2-2 since his injury. Big district game against Cooper on Friday. I believe Boone won earlier in the year by 14 over Cooper in the LIT with Montgomery, let's hope they can do the same without him Friday.

  9. Game is at NCC Tonight.

    Is it still on?

I think the Brown and Giesler match up will be a battle. Hopefully, it doesn't come down to foul trouble between the two of them. In my opinion, they are 2 of the best big men in NKY this year (I don't think I am out on a limb on that one). For Boone's sake, I hope they offset each other (18 - 20 pts. / 10 - 14rebs).

I think Highchew creates some issues for Boone's guards.

The loss of Montgomery hurts Boone's chances in this one (and really, going forward). If McQuery isn't hitting from the outside, I believe, outside of Brown, Boone will struggle for points. It will be interesting to see who steps up for the Rebels. Crabtree could be a key tonight.

The loss in their last game without Montgomery makes me nervous in this one.

    NCC - 72

    Boone - 59

The word I am hearing is torn ACL and Meniscus and surgery is likely.

I believe the MRI is going to be read by additional doctors to see if there is a possibility of avoiding surgery for Mr. Montgomery. I'm hearing that there is a slim, slim, slim chance of rehabing in an effort to avoid surgery at all costs. Hence, the reason for the additional readings of the MRI.

Tough break for a great kid in his senior season with a bright college basketball future ahead of him.

Hopefully, no surgery is needed but it doesn't look good at this point.

Prayers for a speedy recovery TMont!

  11. Officiating at Sharp is as good as the officiating at other places. Visitors just get on here and whine about it more. Most be the drive that leaves them in a foul mood.:D:D:D

We will be more friendly than the guidance counselor who was administrator on duty last year and tried to make the 7th grade Sharp team play with zero seconds of warmup time. She wasn't happy when they took 2 minutes, a whopping 2 minutes, to warm up.

If you are coming from Gray, go through Walton/Piner/Grassy Creek and it is shorter than going 275 and down 27.

I can make it from Sharp to Mt. Zion Rd and sports of all sorts in about 35 minutes. But I do know the road well.

Thanks. Where exactly is Sharp? Is it the Pendleton Co. Middle School?

We were discussing coming down 27 to get there. If there is an easier way, I'm all for it.

I don't want to be in a foul mood when I get there because of the drive. Those poor officals get blamed for everything. The game. The drive.... lol.

Google says the address is 2525 US 25, North Falmouth 41040

  12. Gray Boys -

    Tuesday (12/7) at home against Campbell Co (5pm - 6th, 6pm - 7th, 7pm - 8th).

Thursday (12/9) away at Sharp Middle School (?).

I don't know anything about Sharp, other than it is a long drive from Union.

Any other games of interest this week that might be worth watching?

  13. I posted this earlier, hopefully this will help clarify some things -

    Why the Union Raiders exist:

*When Ryle freshman come into our program we don't have kids developed at key positions. Instead of having two QB's every grade (like Highlands does), we have none over 2-3 consecutive grades. Our freshman have not played together ever, and none of them know Ryle's system or expectations. Union Raider coaches can put kids into positions they will be seen to play in high school. And then help that kid develop in that position. This vision for a kid's future will keep them playing football too.

*There are kids walking around Ryle high school that used to play youth football and no longer play because they quit when they were young. Some play soccer, some don't do any sports. I don't blame anyone for quitting if they were on a team with no minimum playing time requirements. No minimum playing time requirements creates a situation where a team with 35 kids only plays 15 the whole game. A good feeder program has minimum playing time requirements, not a joke of ten minute running clock after the real game is over. There are many great athletic high school kids that weren't that athletic as a 10 year old.

*Coaches must be professional in their behavior and attitudes, this helps create an environment where young players AND their parents feel positive about the program. A good feeder program will have coaches that are evaluated regularly and then appropriately dismissed or given more responsibility. Kids want to continue to play for good coaches. Coaches must care more about developing football players and character than winning. Winning is a goal, but not at the expense of development.

*Young players should be given a vision for themselves and their future program (when Anderson HS won the state championship their seniors were quoted as saying, "we seniors have been dreaming and working together for this goal for 10 years.") - this happens when Ryle coaches and varsity players visit and teach young Ryle players. This vision happens when young players play and practice at Ryle, in the RaiderNation. This vision happens when our young players are called the “Raiders” and wear the Raider Shield sticker on their helmets. This vision keeps kids from leaving or quitting and going to other things. Ryle's senior class this year was awesome, but right off the top of my head I can think of 3 seniors (that would have started and been impact players) that quit or left to go to other schools. When kids have a vision like this they become recruiters and recruit other kids into program too.

*Parents of young players can become involved in the whole varsity program if there is a good feeder program. This creates synergy and excitement for the Ryle football. This in turn keeps parents encouraging their kids to play. It also makes them recruiters for the program. More kids, more good players.

*As a program develops a reputation parents will make efforts to get their kids into the feeder program and eventually the varsity program. There are stories we have heard of parents moving or buying a second home in Ryle district so their kids could play football there. Any student whose parent works for Boone County schools also can choose any high school. Our reputation will help those kids choose Ryle.

*Having players come into our varsity program with years of familiarity with terminology and coaching points will be valuable to the varsity team. Players coming into the high school program with the off season workout traditions and attitude will also be beneficial.

*Keeping team sizes manageable (no matter what the playing time requirements are) is vital for development. If the team size is over 30 kids, kids will start feeling lost in the numbers. Teams with 40-50 kids on it will for sure hurt kids involvement. Team size must be restricted to manageable numbers to keep kids interested and enjoying the program.

*We met with over the last few years and tried to convince the local boone county youth program that these changes needed to happen. But they were unwilling or unable (its unclear which) to change. We gave clear warnings that we would need to start our own program if changes, even just small steps didn’t happen. Based on the research we did into other great high school football program we knew these things were a major part we were lacking. And this is based on what we have seen and been told from our interviews with other successful programs. My son's experience in the BCPWFL was excellent, we liked his coach and he did a great job. I have no idea who is to blame for why the BCPWFL is structured the way it is, and everyone we have ever met or worked with related to BCPWFL have been good, well intentioned people. I am sure that every great player to come thru Boone County could point to a great BCPWFL coach who helped them develop. I applaud all these coaches and volunteers who have given time to help young football players thru the program. They want to see kids develop as young men as much as anyone else.

Our first year we had open signups, but only for one team, cutting it off at 33 players. We did not want to start off with too much. We tried to spread the word as best as possible, we had several signups from people who just heard about it and went online. The only selection was the core group of 10-12 parents that were initially responsible for moving forward. I think you will see that our new feeder program will do all the things mentioned above. There is no guarantee that this will make Ryle a perennial state championship football team, but we feel that this is a major step in the right direction. http://www.unionraidersyf.com

    Well said!!!!

As I pointed out earlier, my son's experience with the Union Raiders was incredible and rewarding. He has his helmet (Raider shield and all) proudly displayed in his room. He can't wait for next year to start and a lot of that is because of the coaches of the Union Raiders and his current Union Raider teammates and future Ryle Teammates. Being new to the Union area, I can let you know that we attended all of Ryle's games this year and the main reason was because of my sons experience on the Union Raiders and the 'family' atmosphere that surrounds the program.

Once a Raider always a Raider!

  14. That is a thought ... remove them from the jury and the show altogether. I also would not include them in any Survivor related events in the future. There should be a penalty of some sort when they quit. The key question about them being on the jury or not is what is fair to the survivors still playing the game. Is there an advantage or disadvantage to anyone left if they are not on the jury? Do you ask the remaining survivors to have a silent vote on whether they should be on the jury? If you did, what do you think they remaining survivors would vote to do?

I was surprised at how angry the remaining survivors were when they quit. Heck, I would have been walking the down the steps to leave.

I would bet that all of the remaining survivors would vote that they did NOT want them on the jury. I was surprised when they were told that they could be. To me, a lot of these 'people' use reality shows to launch their career in acting, etc.. I don't think these guys should get any more publicity, especially for quitting. Just my thought. I love the show though.

  15. Believe me, having posted on this board for for many years, I am cognizant that there is a difference re open enrollment. Until today, I was unaware that it was permissible in Boone County for a high school coach to coach a non-enrolled student athlete.

The Catholic grade schools have had a league for 60 years (CSAA). The public middle schools have just instituted school based football teams. Until then, and still today, the optimist league is where the public school children played.

At no time did I imply that Coach Warner coached this team as he DID NOT. The team was formed due to Boone Co being one of the last Counties in the state not to have Middlle school football, and the BCPWFL has a draft. Therefore, our kids never got to play together until they were Freshmen. Jefferson Co now has middle school football and KY has one of the best MS football organizations in the nation. They expect to have 200 members this coming season and even have a state playoff.

The Union Raiders played in the NKMSFL and are now part of the KYMSFA. They have a coaching staff that follows the Ryle system to get there kids ready for that. No different than any other County or MS program getting their kids ready for HS.
