State AAU Tourney next weekend
I had the chance to get out and watch a few games at the KY state AAU tourney. In the 17U division I watched the KY Players play a tough game against Higher Level. In the end, Pittman, and the Johnson bros were to strong. Also, the Avery kid out of Connor looked like a nice player. In the 16U division, the Lexington Ice (with Fucci in attendance) was defeated by a team called the Thunder. Listed as The Truth in there pool. The Thunder won by 3, but they led mostly the whole game. The DSAS beat the Hoyas Elite pretty handily, by 17. It was fairly close through 2 1/2 quaters. Also the NKY Bulldogs won there game against Higher Level by 10. Looks like they won't go 0-2 in pool play as some predicted on here. In the 15U division, The Truth played the DSAS into overtime. Didn't get to see the finish. Overall a good night pa basketball. Got to see good ol' Jared Prickett as well. More to see tomorrow morning.

Bryan is a good scorer. There is not doubt about that. He is also a decent player. I dont know that he is a superstar PG, but he does what a SG is supposed to do and that is score. I dont know that he is top 10 in the region. Maybe top 10 in the guard category.

I agree with you here. Whats up with that? You would think they would know when the state tourney is.

Yeah, I havent seen the Tar Heels play this season. I have just heard talk about them. I thought they had a decent 14U team last year and those kids would have moved up of course. There have also been a few posts on here I believe. We shall see.

What does Beechwood know about Bryan that no one else does? They held him to 15pts/game last season. His next lowest were 19pts/game at Calvary Christian and then 25pts/game at ludlow.

You raise a good argument, but i think most people feel that Bryan does it against lesser competition. If he played with the bigger schools much more often he wouldnt be able to score consistently like he does. Not saying this is the truth, but this appears to be the opinion of some people.

In the game I saw, at Colerain MS, during the MW Hoops tournament a few weekends ago, Bryan didnt appear to have a great game. He may have scored 4-6 points while I was watching (nearly the whole game) and the defense could have been better. When Jalyn Daniels left the game, the Team Kentucky appeared to struggle a slight bit. Make no mistake about it, Bryan is a good player, and a great scorer, but I second the notion that he could drop 30-35 on Holmes or Boone. It would be fun to see those match-ups though. On a second note, Jalyn Daniels (I believe this is his name, not sure of the spelling), this kid was very good. He was athletic, could score and defend the paint. I was impressed.

Agreed. I knew what you were saying. Players play. Coaches coach.

I find your response to this previous post laughable. Not that you are incorrect, but you seem to be a WKY Elite fan, so why not put them in your list of teams with "great" coaches and teams that will win the 16's. lol. Who are the coaches of SS, WKY Elite, and Lex Ice? And what makes them "great?"

Popp would be an asset to any team. I dont know what Boone was thinking last season. He should get more time this coming season.

I agree that Holmes has 3 of the top players in the state. But i dont know about the top 3 (as in 1, 2, 3). Rico and Pittman are likely top 2, but Jeremiah may slip down a little as compared to other players. If he makes the second or 3rd team, then obviously he isnt the 3rd best. He is very good though. One of the top players, not sure about 3rd best. You could argue it that.

I heard it is likely that Popp will be transferring to Ryle Highschool. Anyone know anymore on this subject?

You're putting Thelen in the top 10 all ready? Whats the justification?

I think this is a well thought out list.

State AAU Tourney next weekend
Basketball is a TEAM sport. I think the winner of this tournament will be the best TEAM on the floor. This is why i like the teams that no one is talking about. Sure DSAS has a ton of talent, but any team can slip up in a 1 and out bracket play tournament. And, any team can have a great game and beat anybody. Nothing is pre-determined. That's why these kids play the game. As the once great Herm Edwards would say "You play to WIN THE GAME!" There are good players, and there are good teams. Good teams win tournaments.

Good deal. Thanks. I wonder what players they have???

I agree, there is only one Josh Forrest. Though, I did see a WKY Elite team in the 15U bracket so maybe they do have 2 16U's.

Shining Stars U15 would probably be the slight favorite here IMO. That team has good talent and good guard play. I have heard a lot about the NKY Tarheels and the younger DSAS (15U). Should be a good tournament.

Ky Kids playing AAU basketball this summer
See, where you like the WKY Elite, I like the NKY Bulldogs. Im just an underdog guy and they seem really scrappy and fundamental. WKY Elite is a decent team with a great player in Josh Forrest and they could make some noise as well. I see a lot of people talking about the DSAS and the Lexington Ice, but others have a lot to offer as well. I cant wait.
