Haven't heard any scoop on Palmer. As far as the Boone kid, I don't think he has played a game for Shelby. I heard he played for Shelbyville's Junior Legion team last summer at third base. He apparently did very well for them. He played at third and also pitched an inning during their scrimmage against Owen Co.

Both teams have basketball players that will have a positive impacts. It was a typical scrimmage in which both teams threw numerous pitchers and with the exception of 3 homers (2 for Shelby and 1 for Owen) the hitting was rather rusty. Shelby threw nearly every varsity pitcher. Only the starting pitcher threw 2 innings. Everyone else threw one inning only. Take away the unearned runs and the score is 7-3. Both teams show a lot of potential. Would like to see them play again later in the season. Not sure if they play each other or not this season.

The score was actually 14-3. Tyler Tipton and Eric Standafer homered for Shelby. Owen's pitchers struggled a bit with control. However, they threw several pitchers as did Shelby. Owen just looked a bit rusty. I think they are certainly better than they what they showed tonight. Too early to make any sort of season predictions.

Semi-finals of State tournament?

Eastern has the pitching. Will carry them far. Should strongly compete for the 7th Region title.

Well, I am not from the northern Kentucky area, but I think you guys get more respect than you think. Certainly everyone knows football is VERY big in your area. Basketball as well. It's just that the Lexington Herald Leader and Louisville Courier Journal give more attention to the schools in their respective areas. I do not think it is a lack of respect. Your schools stack up well or better against anyone in the state. I would love to see a pre-season state wide media guide for baseball. It would be very good exposure for the kids.

It would be very nice to see the state's sportswriters take an interest in baseball. However, baseball just does not attract the attention of the media until post season. Until then, all we have is the input from the coaches which is biased, to an extent, to their area of play.

Well, it would appear Shelby would be favored to win. However, you just never know until the kids hit the field. Both teams have good talent. Owen may have a bit more experienced pitching. However, I hear Shelby will be very sharp defensively. Shelby will also be expecting huge contributions from senior and UofL signee Jarred Clarkson. It should be a very competitive game.

It should be a good scrimmage. The recent good weather (well, at least fairly good) has allowed teams to take advantage of needed outdoor workouts. I know both teams will be anxious to see where they stand.

Would have to agree with your assessment at this time. Shelby has some very good young talent. Unproven though. It will be interesting to see how they develop this year. Clarkson's return should make a huge impact. I do like Owen and Simon Kenton as well.
