  1. Why? Are you expecting them to make a late run for the wildcard? Stephenson and maybe Garret will be up soon enough when they shut down Finegan and Reed. 6 weeks ago everyone was clamoring for him to be called up to replace Simon.

How many innings do you think they will allow Stephenson and Garrett? Stepenson combined at AAA and Cincy in 2016 has thrown 121.2 and Garrett 113.0 combined AA and AAA. Stephenson only threw 134.0 in 2015 and Garrett 140.0. Reed threw 145.2 in 2015.

  2. ^Part of me thinks he was holding Iglesias for tonight. With Reed going, and the crap shoot that his starts have been thus far, I think he wanted his #1 guy available to go multiple innings tonight.

Would've liked to see Lorenzen though.

With the Monday off day he had too many better options than Ohlendorf and Wood imo but hey what will that get me. The Reds have had so much trouble beating the Cards why not go all out to win the 1st game of the series?

The Cincinnati #Reds have found a match, and expected to trade All-Star OF Jay Bruce to an NL team this morning. No, it's not the #Dodgers

Gotta be the Giants or the Mets...I'm guessing Mets.

Hopefully it's the Mets as I don't feel the Giants have as many good prospects in the pipeline but what do the Mets really have? They're not giving up Rosario their top ranked SS.

  4. This brings me back to packaging DuVall/Disco in trade before the deadline, give Peraza his at bats for this season by starting him in LF, Schebler some as well. Start next season off with Winker/Schebler, maybe someone you pick up in that trade in LF. Peraza to 2nd, re-signed Bruce in RF, resigned Cozart at SS(if you can sign for 3 years max) Just another thought to this whole thing

It would be hard for me and I would think hard for them to trade Disco who they control through 2020. Unless somebody would blow them away with an offer.

  5. In rebuilds, you deal with periods where you have some holes. RF will probably be one of those for the Reds for the time being. Senzel will be fast-tracked, but doubtful we see him before next fall at the earliest. Winker is the plan in LF. Once Bruce is moved, I fully expect them to give Schebler a fair chance. Whether he can do it or not, I have my doubts.

If Winker is the plan for LF then they need to try to unload Duvall while he has some value, (if he has some). Do you agree?

  6. Big time decisions for the front office. The Reds are winning, pitching looking good,Phillips and Bruce having career years. Things would be a easier if they had continued on their ways of last year and first half of this one. Can't bench Phillips, harder and harder for them to move a fan favorite in Bruce. Bailey is liable to pitch his 3rd no hitter Sunday the way things have been going, lol.

Personally I'd like to see them try to move some of the pitchers that they obtained last year for position players but none have really shown enough progress except Disco who I think can be a #2 at least. Where are they going to fit all these guys into the roster when Stephenson and Garrett are ready to be promoted?

  7. Bruce would/will command around $100-$115M over a 6 year deal IMO. No way the Reds can have that tied up, along with Bailey's money and Votto's.

As far as OF production....That remains to be seen. I imagine they're hoping to get a couple OF prospects either through moves or drafting in the next season or two. They have Winker very close to being ready in AAA. He won't put up the power numbers, but he'll have a much better average and OBP presumably.

I totally get the money aspect of holding on to Bruce given the Votto/Bailey/Phillips contracts. Do you take a chance and hold on to Bruce another year and hope that Bailey has a good finish this year and becomes tradeable over the winter? Phillips will not be resigned long term and no way they give him anywhere near his current salary to stay. Do you think the Reds are sold on Schebler/Winker as a replacement for Bruce? Schebler and Winker have similar numbers at Louisville but Winker doesn't give you the power numbers yet and maybe won't. Can you win in 3 years with Winker and Senzel at 2 key power positions? I think they will fast track Senzel and I don't know about his ability to hit a lot of HRs in GABP.

  8. It doesn't make sense to sign Bruce long-term. You can't tie up that kinda money in just a handful of guys. I would think these last couple seasons would've made that obvious.

The funny thing about it is the same people wanting to sign him now will be the first to criticize the deal the second he stops hitting at his current level.

You absolutely move him. It doesn't have to be at the deadline, but before next season starts you have to find a deal.

So who gives you his production from an OF position in 3 years when you plan to compete and what kind of money are you talking?

  9. I do not know about 5 years, but I would certainly look at 3 or 4. The Reds need to hold out much like the Yankees did with Chapman. They better come away with some top 5 minor leaguers for Bruce or else stand pat. The guys they got for Frazier and Chapman have not really shown too much.

Take the Bengals approach and develop your own and keep you own if at all possible.

I think the jury is still out on the Frazier trade as Schebler has looked good at AAA. Peraza looks like he could be a leadoff type hitter and can play outfield if Hamilton doesn't improve or infield to replace Cozart or Phillips but I do agree that they should try to get the best players in return for Bruce.

  10. With a trade of Jay Bruce looming closer this week could the Reds be making a mistake trading the left handed right fielder away? I have always been very critical of his inconsistency at the plate and his inability to make adjustments in the count. He is 29 years old and just maybe he is finally getting it at the plate showing better discipline and more consistency. He is arguably having his best season and projects to finish with 42 HRs and 133 RBIs. He has struck out less than Joey Votto and has definitely looked like he has cut his swing down some. Could the Reds try to sign him to a new 5 year contract for $90-100m which would make him 34 at the end of the contract? He seems to like it in Cincinnati and has settled into his life with a new child and wife. He was extremely happy that he wasn't traded to NY last year. Maybe the Reds have tried to talk contract with Jay but then again maybe not. Brandon Phillips comes off the books after next year which will help the payroll and they do get the new Fox contract next year. Personally I would like to see them keep him as I don't want to have to break in a new right fielder in front of my season seats but I also don't want to see the Reds tie up their payroll to where they can't spend money in a needed area. What are your thoughts?

  11. What if he makes the putt to finish with a 62 and -9, does that make it better than a 63 on a par 72 layout which is also -9? I was thinking about that when it happened. In my eyes -9 is -9 on the card whether it's a 61 on a par 70, 62 on a par 71 or a 63 on a par 72. It's still -9 on the card.
