Was he OC and DC same time?

No, he was the OC for most of his time at Russell Co.  Moved to DC with the most recent HC, Lucas Ford.  I assume Coach Ford was an offensive coach and wanted Coach French to stay on staff so Coach French moved to DC.  As with most high school football coaches I think they all can, and usually need to, coach both sides of the ball.  But Steven is an offensive guy.  He will run the offense for Russell County.  Don't know the staff well enough to know who his DC will be.

Just wanted to point out that population is not the full picture in these comparisons.

Boyle County has 4 High Schools: 3 Public and 1 Private
Jefferson County has 64 High Schools:  42 Public, 22 Private (19 Co-ed and 3 All Boys)

(assuming I counted correctly - no I did not go so deep to see if they all have FB teams, I did at least take out the all-girls.)

At the end of the day BC and T had great seasons but they did not play so all of the conversation is bluster, would a could a and excuses - Which is why you play the games.

I came back to this thread to see who Trinity plays on Sept. 6 and while reading I noticed this post.  There are only 2 public high schools in Boyle County.

Good luck to Trinity this coming season.

It sounds like Coach French has the right experience and pedigree.

He knows football.  With the new facilities, it seems the school is upping it's support.  If he can get the best athletes in the school to come out and get community going with him I think he can have success there.

  4. I don't know Steven's bio very well but I know he played for his dad at Meade County.  He was also on staff with Larry at Boyle when they won the '09 and '10 state 4A titles.  Couple of years after that I think he moved to a position at Central Hardin for several years.  He rejoined his dad at Southwestern as OC for the next several years and I believe he's been at Russell County since they both left Southwestern.  I thought Steven should have gotten the job the last time it came open, but I'm glad he's getting his chance now.

  5. I think Steven French should get the nod.  He has a ton of experience with several top programs.  Has been a coordinator for a while.  I know he's applied for a few HC openings.  I think Russell Co. should pull the trigger with him and give him his shot.

    My Predictions for the Maroons:

Aug 23 at Beechwood - Loss but the game is competitive and close.

Aug 31 at Danville Win by running clock.

Sep 6 vs. George Rogers Clark Win by running clock

Sep 13 at Corbin Loss but game is close

Sep 20 vs. Woodford County Loss (little bit of a brain fog from the game before)

Sep 27 at South Laurel* Win (The players will want this win more)

Oct 4 at Madison Central Win

Oct 11 vs. North Laurel* Win

Oct 18 vs. Harlan County* Win

Oct 25 at Southwestern Win but very close game setting up a wild playoff matchup. (Signals a change in the tides of Pulaski Co)

Finishing 7-3 for a promising start to the era of #BURNS BOYS!

I like their chances against Woodford.

  7. The 6'6" 205 ATH received offers from UK and WV this week.  Seneca spent most of his freshman campaign on crutches and/or a walking boot.  But that has not seemed to harm his attractiveness to college scouts.  He also seems fully healed as he has had a good basketball campaign for the Rebels seeing good time as a freshman.  I look forward to seeing how Coach Haddix uses this young man next season.  The offers will only keep coming for this talented young man.  If the name is familiar, he is the younger brother of highly touted LB Brock Driver, who has several offers of his own.  It will be fun to see them on the field together next season.

In the draft, I hate how Somerset is no longer is Danville's district.  Looks like the Ads are also put back into the Western alignment.  And the 2A West is loaded far more than the East.

Yeah, I didn't like Danville and Somerset getting split up and Danville being sent to Louisville.  But they have a long row to hoe regardless of the district.  But I liked them playing Somerset.

  9. I personally think Corbin was the second best team in the state last year.  I think Boyle beats Trinity and I think Corbin/Trinity is a coin toss.  That being said they may have missed the boat for their first State title in 40 years.  Just lost too much I think.  I've enjoyed watching Elam play the last couple of years but I think they've not used him well.  I think he's been capable of a lot more.  To reach the greatness they've had the last two seasons I think they will need to let him loose.  Even then I don't think they will be able to get to the level of the last two seasons.  Maybe they will prove me wrong.
