This is assuming these teams have not had big changes in their line up. But, we won't know until we start playing.

I heard a lady talking about Wayne County yesterday and she said that they have an eighth grader who is almost 16. Is this true? I'm sure somebody knows. I know that kids being held back is normal these days, but when they get to this age, there is a big difference in strength and athletic ability than a "true" eighth grader, IMO.

I was just wondering what we are up against next week when we play Wayne in our FIRST game, lol. Nothing like hitting the ground running...........

Lincoln has had no changes in their starting line up, but have added a nice shooting guard in Jacob Sheets. We still are starting the same 5 as last year, as far as I know (but what do I know?), and they are Carl Lewis Cummins, Shade Jacobs, Dustin Burchfield, Chris Luster, and Luke Hill. We have an excellent bench also, several of whom could be starting anywhere else in our conference.

I agree that Scott County would have to be the pre-season #1, but after that, like Rainman said, it's a toss-up between 6 or 7 others who could fall in right behind Scott Co.

    Is it November 10th yet????????????:D

  3. Lincoln 6th is very talented. Lincoln 7th is very good also. I don't know as much about Lincoln 8th but i know Shelton and Gerhing and they both can flat play. Shelton is about 6'1" now. The oldest Woods is an excellent shooter and they are very well coached. Please don't take this as an insult because top to bottom Lincoln has as good a program as there is in rural Kentucky, I just think Wayne will pose alot of matchup problems for anyone. Wayne beat Meece last year with Shelton if I'm not mistaken and Meece defeated Lincoln. I know alot of the kids both places and there will be 3 great games, good luck! I hope the kids at Lincoln prove me wrong, they are capable.

As far as matchups, it may be pretty even at the 8th grade level. Lincoln has two big men - Luster at about 6'1 1/2 and Hill at about 6'2 1/2. We also have an EXCELLENT guard in Cummins, along with a Burchfield and Sheets. Burchfield and Hill were all tournament team at the state tourney last year and I know some boys played AAU ball this summer to improve their skill level.

Meece and Lincoln played three times last year, and Meece won two of those, but Lincoln was missing one of their starters in one of those games. We are looking forward to hopefully another great season and I can't think of a better way to start it than playing Wayne in game 1. Go Eagles!

  4. Wayne will win all 3, and I have alot of respect for the Lincoln County program and the ability of the players there.

Really!? You must be VERY confident....lol! Well, I am definitely looking forward to watching all three, and no matter who wins, these will be GREAT games. Our 6th grade is untested, so I can't say how they will play. But the 7th and especially the 8th will be ready to play and win!:thumb:

  5. Unfortunately he will not be playing with the 8th grade team this year. He has been pulled up to the freshman and JV teams. He will be playing 8th grade AAU though. Maybe after the season (when AAU starts) we can get together and play.

Very UNFORTUNATE for the 8th grade team! But fortunate for Lincoln!:D

    Very FORTUNATE for Fr/JV!

Good Luck to Taylor and I look forward to watching him play Freshman/JV and in the coming years vs Lincoln!

  6. Why isn't anyone talking about the mighty 12th region................??

Ok, your right. The 12th isn't going to be too mighty this year. But, in a few years watch out!! ;)

I agree! I think the class of 2013 will help the 12th region rank at the top of the state!

I think there should be a state tournament where the best players from each region play the other regions for champion - now wouldn't that be a tourney to watch!:banana:

  7. It is official. Meece (Somerset) and Lincoln Co. will be playing each other this year. It took a little work, but we made it happen. Meece will be playing at Lincoln Co. on Dec. 2 and Lincoln Co. will be coming to Meece on Jan. 6. Lincoln Co. 6th, 7th, and 8th are very strong teams which will make for very competitive games with Meece. Looking forward to playing.

I can't wait!! I was really "pushing" for this, so I am glad it worked out! I would rather play a competitive team any day and to be honest, Lincoln just doesn't face much competition in the Salt River Conference.

If I remember correctly, I don't think our 8th graders have lost a conference game the past two years (their 6th and 7th grade years). I don't think this year will be any different and that is why I welcome competitive games with teams outside our conference.

I was really hoping we were going to play in the LexCath tourney and possibly get a matchup with Scott County, but for some reason it didn't work out.

Again, I look forward to playing Meece, and I REALLY hope Taylor Gover will be playing in those games, as he is friends with several guys on Lincoln's team and I know they would love to see him! (and play against him again!):thumb:

  8. Lincoln should be good 6-8. Meece tried to get them scheduled this year but Lincoln declined saying they were in a conference. I was really looking forward to playing them again this year because of the competition they offer. Russell Co. also declined to play Meece saying they were in a conference.

What does that mean? We have always been "in a conference" and have played Meece before! I was looking forward to doing so again this year, because we usually have no competition within our conference (Salt River).

How do you get better when you don't play good teams?????:irked:

  9. Lexington Catholic

    8th grade Tournament

    December 6, 2008

Beuter Gym at Lexington Catholic High School

Each team will play three games. The first two will be against the other teams in your pool and the last game will be matched against the team in the other pool with the same seed. If a tiebreaker is needed to determine seeding for the last game, head to head would used first followed by point differential.

Pool A – Lexington Catholic, Mason County, North Oldham

Pool B – Knox County, Scott County, Sebastian

10:00 – Lexington Catholic vs. North Oldham

11:15 – Scott County vs. Sebastian

12:30 – Mason County vs. Lexington Catholic

1:45 - Knox County vs. Scott County

3:00 - Mason County vs. North Oldham

4:15 - Knox County vs. Sebastian

    5:30 - 3 seed (Pool A) vs. 3 seed (Pool B)

    6:45 – 2 seed (Pool A) vs. 2 seed (Pool B)

    8:00 – 1 seed (Pool A) vs. 1 seed (Pool B)

I'm disappointed! I had heard Lincoln County was playing in this tournament, and was hoping we would get to play Scott County. Wonder what happened???

  10. Anyone started practicing yet?

Lincoln County Middle School had tryouts the last two days, and begin practice on Monday, but they will be very short on players actually practicing because of football and soccer. I believe about 8 or 9 of the eighth graders play football, and same with the 7th graders. But I am soooooooo looking forward to getting the season started! GO Eagles!!

  11. I wasn't correcting anyone.

I was just saying it was Quinn or Quin or whatever.. Sorry I didn't know his middle name.

He is a good football player, and I saw him playing baseball last year. I heard he can play basketball too.

LOL, yeah, just a little bit! That's the understatement of the year!

  12. Scott County is a good Team. QB runs the off. Well. Very well Coach. There best Player is ( I Think) number 2. Good Hands and Great on Def. (Fast) There Def. is good and they like to Bliz there Mike alot. Number 56 I think. Scott is hard to stop. But can be. There kids play hard and very well coach. Now on the Scott County Coach's. I didn't see them do or say anything. We ask them to come over and have a word of prayer with us and they did. I think there a class act. It was a very good game from both teams.:thumb:

Would that be Quin Richardson? I bet it is - if he is still playing football. He is awesome at basketball too - just a great all around athlete, IMO.:thumb:

  13. Did Lincoln get some more kids out for their 8th grade team this season? They were not very strong last season.

Well, maybe a few, but they were really beginning to play WELL at the end of the season last year and I am hoping they will start well this year. Plus, many of them have grown. The biggest weakness will be at quarterback, but the running game looks good, so we shall see.......

  14. Northern has a good 7th grade team 2-0- defeated Lexinton Catholic over the weekend.

Lincoln County plays Northern MS on Thursday, but heard that their biggest kid (TE/DE) sprained his ankle playing volleyball during his lunch break today, so he probably won't be playing in that game. Lincoln looks to be really good this year, their line is HUGE, they have a really good RB in the Jackson kid.

They have games this week vs Northern, Mercer on Saturday, and Rockcastle next Tuesday. So we shall see.......

  15. Somerset (Meece) will not have Gover on this years 8th grade team. He is moving up to the freshman and JV team. It is possible he could play occasionally with the 8th grade team, but his focus will be with the high school. One of the other kids transferred to Northern (Pulaski Co.). The 8th grade team will be good, but not as strong as in recent years.

Meece's 7th grade team will be pretty solid, but they lost Thacker to a coaching move. He will be missed from that team, but the 7th grade team is still probably the team to beat in southern Ky (along with Lincoln Co. and Clinton Co.).

That's too bad for Meece - they won't be nearly as competitive without Taylor. Our boys were really looking forward to playing them again this season. It's great for Taylor that he is movin' on up to play with the high school - they just don't do that in Lincoln County for some reason (or at least they haven't since about 5 years ago) - even when your 8th graders are soooo much better than your freshman and some of your JV!

Anyway, I heard that Lincoln and Scott County may be playing each other in some pre-season or holiday tournament at LexCath. If it happens - I can't wait for that!!

This thread couldn't have come soon enough - yeah, my kid is playing football right now, but I say "Hurry up November!" Go Lincoln!
