  1. Well the battle for Varsity SS last year was between Holocher and Lafever. It ended up going to Holocher.
  2. Not killing them, but definitely putting a little more confusion into the system. And in the OF you don't get as many balls which is why i think he was in the OF. Shovers bat is what the Colonels are missing more than anything.
  3. Freshman and JV shortstop the last 2 years. Started out in the outfield but moved to 2nd base in the 4th game due to lack of a real 2nd baseman. I expect him to keep the spot though. I was told the only reason he wasn't there in the beginning of the season was he broke his ankle in the off season and still is not 100%.
  4. High 80s and can touch 90 occasionally.
  5. Agreed. Its tough for cov cath to have a set infield line up now with such short notice. They have already had 4 different people at 2nd base in 4 games. It started with Eggemeier, then to Shlagbaum (soph.), a couple innings for Seimer (soph.) and now it's Lafever. Once their infield is set and stone I'm sure there will be much improvement.
  6. Played RF the first 3 games but started at 2nd base for the 2nd matchup against Dixie. He is not a JV baseball player. Is Trey Buetell doing anything down at Beechwood this year for the JV basketball squad?
  7. Final. Nutini threw 5 innings of 2 ERs and Sainola finished off the last 2 giving up 0. Luke Maile hit his first bomb of the year in this one.
  8. 6-3 Cov Cath. Pitching was the main thing in the first matchup. Cov Cath threw one of their bullpen pitchers to start the game, and finished with 2 sophomore pitchers. When cov cath threw Nutini in the 2nd matchup they held the defensive side down. Maile got his first bomb in the 2nd meeting as well.
  9. They had the best shortstop in Kentucky that year, and the best Pitcher in Kentucky by the name of Rob Harmon. Not to mention the rest of the pitching staff was clearly dominant. Pitching was the core of this team and they were clearly not overrated they were the most solid ball club in Kentucky that year by far and could knock down many teams this year IMO.
  10. If Elliot's pitching I might have to go with Beechwood in a tight 3-1 game. If not, Ryle by a few.
  11. I'm going to have to disagree. Doesn't Beechwood play schools like Villa, Dayton, Bellvue? Cov Cath has already played 2 teams in the top 10 in the state (Lex Cath and Henry Clay) in their first 3 games of the season. They also play GLC teams like Hamilton Badin and McNicholas. They play in Lexington against Louisville Male then back in NKY against Male again who is pre-season ranked 12 in the state. Not to mention they play West Jassamine who is pre-ranked 22 in the state. Another tournament in Boyd county who is 18 in the state. I'm pretty sure Strength of Sched. goes to Cov Cath by a LONG RUN.
  12. Mitch Shover is one of the most underrated defensive players in the 9th region. He, IMO, can shut down any guard, including Giwa of HC. He should be higher on the list then Giwa. (if there is any list at all)
  13. Cov Cath #1 Brandon LaFever of/2nd 11 #2 Tyler Holocher ss 11 #4 Danny Niehaus P/of 12 #5 Brandon Nutini P/of 11 #6 Ryan Sainola P/1st 11 #13 Zach Isler P/1st/C 11 #21 Luke Maile C 11 #22 Ryan Darner 3rd/of 11 #34 Pat Van Sant of 11 #37 Patrick Krumme P 11 #44 Nick George 2nd 11 #48 John Wehry P 12 ??? Patrick Eggemeier 2nd 11
  14. Isler, due to Tommy John surgery, was not able to throw a curveball last year. This year he has strengthened his arm and can throw whatever he'd like. I will disagree with you and say Nutini is a shut down pitcher IMO. Sainola pitched in the Semi-finals of the region last year and got the win so i think he has already proved something in that sense. Niehaus isn't a shutdown pitcher per say, he is a pitcher who will get ground balls. He won't be the one striking out 10, but WILL, in fact, be the one getting the tack on the Wins column more often than most.
  15. Maronde struck out 11 of his 12 outs against a very solid Cov Cath team. He got the win 5-1.
  16. Treatment? How old are they now? 17? That's old enough to get a grip. And 3rd string shortstop, not second baseman. He was backup 2nd baseman behind Connor Larkin and he was definitely not giving up his spot. Shover had it locked for a fact there is no argument here.
  17. That's fine. He is entitled to his own opinion. I don't know what more he wanted when he had lead off hitter and starting second baseman almost (98%) at a lock. If he was drawn away by politics, he left baseball for the wrong reasons. P.S. - And also last year, Shover was set as the 3rd string Varsity shortstop. Even if there was no such player as Holocher, Shover would have been playing JV Shortstop regardless. Those are the facts my friend.:thumb:
  18. That was a judgement call by Coach Krumps. Holocher had doubled earlier in that game, but brought Mitch in for the squeeze, as he was the better bunter. And if I remember correctly Shover missed the squeeze and then ended up striking out.
  19. That is my mistake. Holocher did play basketball his sophomore year. But did not hesitate one bit to give it up this year so that he could focus all of his time and energy towards playing baseball. He had the skill to continue playing basketball, but chose to dedicate himself to baseball. But If Mitch really was the better man for the job last year Coach Krumps would have put him where he belonged. Coach Krumps would not jeopardize his chances at winning and keep a player in the starting lineup all year who didnt belong.
  20. The bottom line is that Tyler Holocher was the best fit to start Shortstop last year for Cov Cath. He had been working the entire off season with the team to earn his own spot on the team and has done the same this year. Doing so all while Mitch Shover was playing basketball. That is no knock on Shover because he is excellent in both sports, but he was not working out with the team and doing everything else the others had been doing throughout the winter. Holocher puts in more time and effort into getting better than most, and deserved to start last year, as well as this year.
  21. As a sophomore. Someone has to lead the team and you can't expect much more from a Sophomore shortstop. He worked a lot in the summer and played for one of the top teams in the country at 18u. He didn't make that team by making errors.
