Another common opponent is South Florida.  Cards won 41-3.  Bearcats closely won 28-24.

Common opponents mean little, now a days. Tennessee kills Florida, Florida kills South Carolina, South Carolina kills Tennessee.

While USF had an incredibly band season, the UofL game was absolutely the worst played of the bunch. I don't know if it was coming off the Florida game or what, but they could do nothing right on either side of the ball that day. (I think it was because my Hot Browns were so spectacular that we killed the tailgate and jinxed everything.) The Bulls defense was horrible all season, but in the games played against teams not called UofL they scored at least 21 points in each of those games and averaged 28 points a game for the season.

From what I've seen, USF fans aren't very happy about this hire. Wanted someone with more Florida ties and worried about him being Jeff Scott 2.0

Not the impression I'm getting, but my fan friends are old school.

He said the right stuff in the presser and did not throw out a bunch of stupid catch phrases. I don't get excited anymore, so it is what it is.

Another Bay Area team that made the Semifinals in their class...

  6. Teams I follow in Florida...

    Playoffs Week 2

    2M Region 2:

Calvary Christian (Clearwater) 29 Berkeley Prep 28 OT

Calvary Christian hosts Lakewood next week for the region championship.

    3M Region 2:

    Tampa Jesuit 45 Gaither 10
    Largo 28 East Bay 12

Largo is at Jesuit next week for the region championship.

    4M Region 1:

    Apopka 17 Boone 3

Apopka plays Winter Park Tonight at 6.

    4S Region 4:

    Last week ...
Sarasota Riverview 29 Gulf Coast 15

    This week ...
    Sarasota Riverview 28 Sarasota 7

For what it is worth, St. Thomas Aquinas is mowing down everybody in their path in class 3M. They beat Atlantic 63-14 to qualify for the region 3 championship next week.

  7. Michael Kelly made a point I hadn't considered in the current College Football setup.

He pulled the trigger when he did, not only because of recruiting and the early signing period, but also because of retainment. With the transfer portal being what it is, he has to consider what he needs to do to keep the players he has.

    Jon Gruden?

That is one of the rumors floating around. Scott Frost is another.

Gruden still lives in the area and that would be a great way to attract people back to the program. With the new on-campus stadium project underway, it's also a good way to sell seats before it is even built.

  9. Florida Brackets are here.

    2M Region 2 District 7 got 3 teams in.

    2nd seed Calvary Christian (Clearwater) 8-2 (3-0) hosts 7th seed Blake 7-3 (1-2)

    3rd seed Berkeley Prep 7-3 (2-1) hosts 6th seed Robinson 6-4 (2-1)

    5th seed Clearwater 4-6 (1-2) is at 4th seed Lakewood 6-4 (2-0)

    Notes...

There are 2 Calvary Christians (Clearwater and Ft. Lauderdale) and both are in the 2M bracket, hence the city designation above.

Berkeley Prep beat Robinson 62-7 last Friday night in the last game of the regular season.

While the all district champions make the playoffs, the regions are seeded by RPI. This is why District 6 champ and #1 seed, Tampa Catholic 8-1 (3-0), hosts district 5 champion King 3-7 (3-0), who is seeded 8th. Clearwater's SOS provided them with a higher RPI and higher seed than 3 teams with better records Robinson, Blake, and Middleton. Middleton 5-5 (2-1 in the 5th district, second to King) did not make the playoffs at all.

  10. After getting blown out by Temple 54-28, a game they should have won or at least been competitive in, Michael Kelly had had enough. He fired head coach Jeff Scott and the defensive coordinator, Bob Shoop for good measure.

You know this may be a place Urban Meyer can coach and stick. The Mons Venus and 5 other strip clubs are within a mile of the stadium. Right up his alley. 😁

  11. Teams I follow in Florida. Last week of the season.

    Class 2M Region 2 District 7 teams:

    Clearwater 48 Boca Ciega 13
Palm Harbor University 27 Dunedin 6
    Berkeley Prep 62 Robinson 7
Calvary Christian 39 St. John Paul II 0

    The rest:

    Wekiva 20 Apopka 14
Tampa Catholic 20 Tampa Jesuit 19
Largo 14 St. Pete Northeast 13
    Alonso 34 Brandon 8
    Newson 54 Gaither 43
    Spoto 51 Tampa Freedom 0
    East Lake 63 Countryside 34

  12. I got to see the #6 nationally rated defensive end, Keon Keeley, at Berkeley Prep against Clearwater last Friday. He is 6'6" 250. The kid is strong and fast. Clearwater was double teaming him from the get go and was unable to slow him down.  The only thing that did was the rain, which came early in the second quarter as a torrential downpour, so hard I could barely see the home stands.

For what it is worth, Berkeley's tuition is something like $30K/yr. Their 80 acre campus looks more like a college than a high school and the Straz Field House at the end of one endzone of the stadium is impressive. However, the stadium has nothing on Marshall Stadium at Trinity. In fact, Highlands and Boone County, two other high school stadiums I am familiar with in Kentucky, are better.

Berkeley Prep does have field turf on their practice field, though. Something I've not seen at a high school.

    Steinbrenner 52 Sickles 12
    Sarasota Riverview 14 Sarasota 0
    Wharton 78 Tampa Freedom 6
    Apopka 23 Evans 12

Still one week left in the season, here. However, Calvary Christian has wrapped up their district.

I'm not sure how they seed the playoffs after the district champions. If like last year, after the district champions, the remaining 4 spots in the region are seeded by RPI. With the new classification layout, who knows?
