In my opinion, there is no excuse for the basketball program to be in the condition that it is. They didn't even field a freshman team last season. That is unbelieveable! At one point last season they were down to about 15 girls in the entire program. They have to change the culture there if they want to compete. They have to make those talented players at the middle schools WANT to come to Male. Right now Manual is killing Male for the best players.

1. The bad thing is that now the "tremendous amount of talent" isn't even coming anymore. Manual (and Butler to a lesser extent) is poaching the best talent from the Traditional middle schools. The top 8th grader from JCTMS last season is at Manual this year. 2. Male needs to lighten up the schedule. Kinda like the Kansas St. approach to football. There are enough good teams in Louisville that there is no reason for Male to have North Hardin, Central hardin, and E-Town on the schedule. That's 3 unnecessary beat-downs. That hurts a team when you're trying to build up a program.

As a middle school student, you can play any level of high school sports including varsity. You can then go to any high school and be eligible when you enter 9th grade. The only restriction here in Jefferson county is that, as a middle schooler, you have to play for the high school that is your "resides" (or home) school. you cannot simply pick or choose what high school you play for. Even if you have no intention of attending that high school, that is where you must play. That is why you're not penalized when you get to 9th grade and end up playing for a different high school. I've had first hand experience with this rule, unfortunately.
