Male 2008/09

Featured Replies

Male finished 9-15 in the always tough 7th region. What must they do to improve?

Male is one of the best coaching jobs in the state. Sometimes change is good. In this case it would be good for the players coming into this program if they had an energetic young man or woman that would work to develope the tremendous amount of talent that comes into that program year after year!

1. The bad thing is that now the "tremendous amount of talent" isn't even coming anymore. Manual (and Butler to a lesser extent) is poaching the best talent from the Traditional middle schools. The top 8th grader from JCTMS last season is at Manual this year.

2. Male needs to lighten up the schedule. Kinda like the Kansas St. approach to football. There are enough good teams in Louisville that there is no reason for Male to have North Hardin, Central hardin, and E-Town on the schedule. That's 3 unnecessary beat-downs. That hurts a team when you're trying to build up a program.

Can you please explain how a school with 1900 kids, a top five in the state academic score, and three feeder schools with the best talent in Louisville has to "rebuild"? Should this EVER happen at a school such as Male? Aren't they one of the three elite schools, along with Manual and Ballard, in Louisville? If you have 1900 kids to pick from who is to blame when you can't win? The administration? The coaches? Kids can't use the excuse that they want to go to a "better academic" school so who is to blame for Male losing it's "golden" standard? Just curious b.c I am used to seeing Male as a power in ALL sports so this seems unacceptable to me. What are the parents and kids saying is the problem?

In my opinion, there is no excuse for the basketball program to be in the condition that it is. They didn't even field a freshman team last season. That is unbelieveable! At one point last season they were down to about 15 girls in the entire program.

They have to change the culture there if they want to compete. They have to make those talented players at the middle schools WANT to come to Male. Right now Manual is killing Male for the best players.
