  1. I am not on the inside at or near Trinity, so I am going off what I heard about their tuition. Supposedly they are allowed so many kids to come in on some type of grant without paying or paying very little. I would be shocked if Hicks is paying much, if at all, to go to Trinity.
Perhaps you're thinking of Scott Co.
  2. It's true, there is a new face under center rotating with the others, DeHoff and Cooper (who by all accounts would be the heir apparent). Seems that Cooper could make a bigger impact as a receiver if another player could play QB. He seemed to catch everything last season in the defensive secondary. Just some thoughts.

  3. I like the optimism of the Burnout, but I, too, would be concerned about the size along the lines as well.

The loss of 3-year starting linebackers Will Rice and Kamron Smith will likely be noticed on the defensive side of the ball. It will also be difficult to find a replacement for Travis Jones, who was probably 90% of the Russell offense last season. He made numerous plays and often gained big yardage on his own.

I hope Russell gets the QB situation straightened out before the season starts this year. I assume it will be either Logan Dehoff, Patrick Cooper, or Jordan Roark since all 3 saw significant time at the position last year.

I would expect Joel Korzep, Luke Bailey, and Paul Spradlin to play big roles on defense. Zach Thompson and Spradlin should get some of the carries on the offensive side of the ball.

I hope the team utilizes Justin Davidson effectively. He played safety last year on defense and played some offensively, but certainly looks like he could be a good pass catching threat at tight end on offense.

The kicking game should be good again as Tanner Locey returns after being one of the best in the area last year.

Overall, I think the team has 10 or 11 guys that I can think of off the top of my head that should play really well. I hope they are in shape because they need to keep them on the field as much as possible. This combined with the typically solid coaching and execution we've come to expect from Russell should lead to at least 5 or 6 wins.

They have 6 home games this year so that will help some. It will be an upset if they can beat Ironton, Ashland, or Mason County. Raceland will be a tough game as well as they now have a 2-game losing streak to the Rams. I hope some of the younger players we haven't seen play on the varsity level step up and surprise me.

I'm hearing there may be a new face possibly in that role, which in turn would allow the 3 you mentioned to play elsewhere, and would surely strengthen them offensively. Again, just hearsay.

  4. Good Lord folks, when are we going to be able to look at a great high school athlete and say, "that is a great football player" without having to hear about why he is not the best player to ever play the game. It seems like every time a person tells about a great player, he is hammered for not running a 4.2 40, or not benching 850 pounds, or not be tall enough. Very few times does a player have all the attributes of an athlete, all are lacking somewhere. I just love hearing about great players, not the dressing down.
Personally, I think that the majority of posters on this site are truly interested in promoting and discussing players. Most are interested in building up student-athletes, not dressing them down. However, and this is only my opinion, I think that with every site of this sort, there are parents, and even athletes themselves (considering that you only need be 16 to sign up) that would rather make this a spitting contest and turn to degrade players instead of arguing or promoting their merits. So far, this has been one of my favorite threads I've had the pleasure of reading. Yet, I can't imagine it will be long before we have plenty of discussion on how some aren't "good enough". Seems football season brings that out more than any other.
  5. I'm sorry, but I have never heard of a Coach pitch tournament. I mean, are you serious. Coach pitch!!! This is absurd!!! I mean for what, a participation trophey. Let's all feel good. i can't believe it has gotten to this. Who is making the money on this? That is probably the driving force behind it. IMO, parents need to get a life. It just isn't that important!!!! And nobody can convince me otherwise.

What in the world are you talking about? The original post asked if it was too much. I don't see what parents have to do with it. I agree that's alot of games in the heat. But think maybe you're a little over the top on this one.

  6. Actually it's the Drew Stubbs that's hitting .213 with 5 HR, 21 RBI and 48 SOs in 42 games this year. He's a huge liability at the plate. He isn't ready for major league pitching.

You know very little about baseball if you think Drew Stubbs is a waste of a roster spot.

You called him and he showed!!

  7. :irked::eyeonyou: If this is true, it is absolutely ridiculous!!! This should have been the top team in the region this year. I'll say one thing for the principal, (if your information is correct) he's flat out lied to the Ol Duckster on a couple of occasions.:puke:

Your old buddy Dodd passed over at GC twice now. Perhaps you are the only one on the board with such high regard for him. As for the decision, seems they had the guy in house all along. Could have made this a much better affair if they'd have simply hired him instead of going through Ringling Bros. Coach Recruiting 101. No matter the circumstance, Mr. Nickel looks to be the last option, whether or not it's the truth. Good luck to him. To say he starts off with a full house is an understatement. How about the bullseye right out of the gate coach? Kinda like your neighbor Cooksey Jr. inherited last season. Now two old goats Rex and Dodd are out to pasture. Probably grazing over in Ward's yard.

  8. Are you guys sure Keith Adkins is showing interest? He had Campbellsville ranked pretty high this year in the NAIA and seems to have a good thing going. He's a great coach and would do an outstanding job there, but with all the drama at Greenup I don't see why he'd want to leave Campbellsville.

I'm not sure I'd want to leave a team I coached at Alcatraz to come to Greenup County.

  9. Are we now taking the position that any time a star athlete doesn't qualify for freshman eligibility in the NCAA, it's the school's fault?

Doesn't the athlete have to shoulder some of the blame as well?

No sir. We live in a country that thrives on being helped by the system, so why not blame it? No accountability anymore. I agree with westsider 100%

  10. Look at Foster's stats the first two games those two were matched up. Ricardo dominated him both games at both ends of the floor. Demarko simply got the better of him the one time Ricardo had an off shooting night. Doesn't make him a better player than Ricardo though.

I do however feel that Pittman should've been first team and Ricardo second team. He's the most talented kid in the state and if there weren't certain circumstances off the court, you'd be seeing him playing for a high major D1 school next year.

As far as these all state teams not being based solely on this season, Euton and Guyn were both all state players last year...neither made the HONORABLE MENTION list this year.

Just so we are clear, are we talking about NCAA D1 or are we talking NAIA D1. Just want to make sure what we are speaking of.:thumb:
  11. Bobby Hall is a quality official. Why would he care if Scott County won or not? i do know that Hicks spent the entire game wearing him out and did a whole lot of crying and very little coaching.

An a side note, Scott County will be sponsoerd by Toyota AND Kleenex next year. Major underachievers.

Yep. Final four is an underachievement. I suppose that every team that reaches the final four and doesn't win the title is an underachiever. Wonder if that shoe fits?

  12. Ding, dong, the witch is dead!!!!!!

Congrats Ballard, for beating the team fans love to hate.

From their crowd size, they don't have many fans of their own team.

And there will be a new witch out there somewhere next season. So don't worry Don Quixote, there will be another windmill for you to attack soon.
