  1. Georgetown Thunder played at MidAmerica today in Louisville in a round robin. They beat the Fighting Irish (whose starting lineup consisted of 4 former Louisville Suns players, who were 4/5th of the starting lineup on the team that won the state when they were in 5th grade) by 27, then beat the Louisville Rising Stars by 14. In their third game, The Ville (last year's state winner and 11th nationally) beat the Thunder by 15, but the score is deceiving. The game was tight throughout the first half and into the third quarter (The Ville were up by 3) when the starting point guard (the new kid from New Hampshire) for the Thunder went down with an ankle injury and The Ville dominated the rest of the game. The Ville are huge on the inside. Plus, they have added James Quick, who has to be in the argument for the best player in the state. So, they have to be installed as favorites to win state again, but teams like the Thunder, Rising Stars, Tarheels and Wolfpack won't give in easily.
  2. Quentin Snyder, previous of the Cincinnati Playmakers 6th grade last year, stayed in the 6th grade and has been playing with the Louisville Legends. I hear he played with the Tarheels 6th last weekend, so who knows if he played with the Legends today or is changing to the Tarheels. My guess would be he played with the Legends. He would instantly make them a better team even if they added other players.
  3. By the way, there has been a Lexington Catholic middle school basketball program for as long as I can remember. And, in case anybody is not aware, this is NOT a Lexington Catholic Middle School. So, my point is, I am not sure the KHSAA would necessarily care because something similar to there is going on at a lot of places. I do agree, though, with your comment about this being one of the reasons for the debate between private and public schools.
  4. Georgetown Thunder won the 7th grade division of the YMCA tournament at Georgetown College today. The Thunder beat the Louisville Rising Stars by 16 in the finals, after having lost to them on Saturday. The Thunder went 4-1 on the weekend, also beating the Louisville Storm (by 16), Lexington Blaze (by 59) and Madison Colonels (by 20) during the weekend. In the 6th grade division, the Scott County Wolfpack was playing the Frankfort Stallions in the championship game.
  5. I knew it was at least one game....Just wasn't sure if it was more than 1.....Thanks!
  6. In KHSAA basketball rules, how many games is the suspension for an ejection for fighting?
  7. If the 7th grade Wolfpack is what I read on here and also what I have heard they are, they should definitely play D1, at least in state. There were a couple of teams last year that went D1 in state and D2 in nationals.
  8. Great point! Mackey was ranked in the top 40 or so in the nation before his incident and that's what tournaments like the City of Palms and Beach Ball look at it when they invite teams. I expect Scott County to have a good, not great, year and they will challenge for the 11th at the end. They are one of the teams definitely capable to going to Rupp.
  9. Final Score -- 83-69...SC outrebounded 18, which results in 12 more FG attempts for Chester.....That is the difference in the game....
  10. Agreed.... No go-to guy will be the death of Scott County this year.....Brings the lack of Mackey even more to the forefront....
  11. Ge-Lawn Guyn fouled out....Phares has only played 12 minutes....SC in trouble
  12. Looks like game over....Down 12 with less than 3 minutes left....
  13. No radio feed that I know of...Just follow it at: http://www.cybersportsusa.com/webgames/webgame.asp?File=../livegames/Unknown/SCHSClipp122020071445.asp
  14. SC down by 10....Hundley trying to keep them in the game....
  15. Scott County down 53-44 10 seconds into the 4th....Way too many turnovers for SC -- 18 after 3 quarters.....
  16. Hundley first basket of the game -- 4-pt play -- ties it at 40.....
  17. Mason wins in Hawaii....Let's see if Scott County can pull one out as well.... SC down 38-36 with three minutes left in the 3rd....
  18. I don't know all the kids up there in NKY, so I don't want to pick an entire team, but Christian McClendon should definitely be on there.
  19. I, too, watch Superbad this weekend. But not on Sunday -- I would never give up football for movies. Must be a Bengals fan that did that. Just kidding! Anyway, the movie wasn't very good. I kept watching waiting for the funny parts. There were a few in the beginning, but I agree it just dragged on and on and on........ Now, Knocked Up is absolutely hilarious!
  20. Although Portwood is in 6th grade, he will still play with the 7th grade Thunder. He might end up playing in state and nationals with a 6th grade team. Hatton was held back last year, but he also is one that competes just fine in the 7th grade (last year 6th) level. Snider from Louisville started for the Cincy Playmakers last year as a 6th grade, but has been held back and is in 6th again. Parents hold kids back for many reasons -- some sports, some grades and some maturity. I agree with with qryche11, I wouldn't hold my son back but I think it is wrong for others to cast stones at parents who do. It is their right to do what they feel is best for their child. As far as teams with grade exceptions, let's face it, the top teams in the nation have their full compliment of 3. The Ville, who won the state of KY and finished top 10 in the nation, has 3. Georgetown Thunder had its first grade exception ever last year and now have 2 on the team this year. Until they have a division within AAU that doesn't allow grade exceptions, it will always happen.
  21. Scott County looked good with all 5 starters, but transfer from New Hampshire (Richardson), Portwood and Gaines -- post player who will be joining the Thunder this year -- led the way. Gaines had 25 points, Portwood had 12 points and at least 10 (possibly 15) rebounds, while Richardson did whatever he wanted with 20 points and probably 8-10 assists and about the same number of rebounds. Look for the Thunder to challenge The Ville this year for the 7th grade state championship.
  22. Scott County dominated the battle of the top two teams in the Bluegrass Conference, led by its Georgetown Thunder contingent. The Thunder kids combined for 64 points as Scott County won 67-46. Dominique Hawkins did his best to keep Madison in the game, but Scott County was simply too much. I believe this was Madison's first loss in two years with this group of kids.
