  1. Oh, believe me, I wasn't trying to discount the guard play of the The Ville because they have some great guards as well. I just think the Thunder, in particular, matches up on the perimeter, it's the inside play that makes the difference.
  2. Yes, there are some good guards, but the difference in The Ville and the rest of the state is their inside presence. Georgetown Thunder, Louisville Rising Stars and a new team in Lexington all have a chance to beat The Ville in a one-game scenario, but they are definitely the team to beat.
  3. I misunderstood. I knew they were 6th graders last year, just thought maybe they were held back. So, with your philosophy of adding some other kids to help out your 6th graders, you should be fine to play 13U D2.
  4. So, did those 2 play with you in 6th grade then?
  5. If one of the 2 players is Dylan (at least I am pretty sure that is the kid's name), then you have a shot. Mountain Thunder had 3 kids I thought were better than the rest, one was Dylan (#8 -- by far their best player), #11 -- taller skinny kid and Bryson (#15 -- curly hair).... By the way, G'town Thunder played them about 5-6 times in 9U - 11U and I watched them play last year, so all that information may not be 100% accurate.
  6. Georgetown Thunder has played D1 in its age group, then D2 in the age group one above the last 2 years and plans to do it again this year. As long as you understand what you could be getting into, I would say do it but make sure you aren't disappointed if it turns out badly.
  7. The BCI has always been this way. It's not just this weekend. Dave Clevenger, who runs BCI, is a great guy but you have to be careful in believing who is coming to play and what age groups. And, he does charge different prices, but I know he is not the only one. If you are smart, you will try to negotiate with any of these larger facilities -- Hoops, MidAmerica, etc.
  8. The kids name is Isiah Ivey and he is a stud. Has played for the Blaze (up to 12U) and The Ville (13U) with Manning, Jaylen Beckham from Bryan Station and some others. The Ville finished 4th in the nation last year in 13U D1. Richardson, who plays for Gtown Thunder, is also on the roster. Not sure how much he gets to play with all the studs they have. The freshman-to-be teams the last couple of years at Scott County have played D2 AAU. If they play this year (and the squad includes Manning and Ivey -- I had heard either The Ville or a new team in Lexington might get their services), they most definitely should play D1.
  9. I am not commenting that I don't think the Tarheels struggled, but I think you need to give other teams credit. I am not sure anybody expected the Tarheels to beat the Warriors, especially once they added Portwood and the kid from Missouri -- too much inside play. So, inside of saying the Tarheels laid an egg, why not give the Legends credit for stepping up their game? Oh, and on the subject of the Legends, it appears maybe Snyder should have stayed with them instead of the Tarheels. I know he played with the Legends, Warriors and Tarheels pre-Christmas before deciding to play with the Tarheels this year and he might have been the missing piece to allow the Legends to stand toe-to-toe with the Warriors.
  10. And, I believe Portwood is going to play for the Warriors as well. I am obviously very biased, but I am not sure there is a better 6th grader in the state.
  11. By the way, I agree with you 1,000%, the Rockets played a whale of a game and beat the Thunder. I definitely wasn't trying to take anything away from you. But, as I am we have, there are games we feel you shouldn't have lost. My comments were by no means to take anything away from the Rockets. I don't think you took it that way, and if you did, it wasn't meant that way.
  12. Personally, I would rather compete at D1 then play D2. And, please don't anybody take this as a knock to teams that are playing D2 because I know each team / coach has his or her own personal preference. When the Georgetown Thunder was 11 (I am still trying to forget the experience and wipe it from my memory) we played D2 and had the worst weekend we have ever had, losing to a couple of teams that had no business beating us (sorry, qryche11, I believe you were involved with one of the teams). We entered the tournament on like a 20 game win streak, having won 4-5 tournaments in a row -- some beating teams that played D1. In fact, we had played the D1 champion that year -- Louisville Suns -- twice and lost by 3 and 4 points and were in both games to the end. We did D2 because we wanted to stay in Lexington and play in the nationals. But, now they allow teams (in fact, the Louisville Suns won the state and ended up playing D2 nationals, which I was originally told was not allowed -- but that's another story). I guess what I am saying is we decided we would rather play against the best than worry about the end result. In fact, we finished 2nd nationally in D2 in 10U then went 4-3 last year in the D1 nationals and I honestly felt better about our accomplishment last year than I did in 10U. The only thing I have from 10U is a big silver trophy that I still display today. But, from last year, I have the satisfaction of knowing I put my kids up against the best.
  13. Thanks for the update. Irregardless of the injuries, to play as close you guys did to the top teams in the nation is still great. And I'm sure you learned some valuable lessons against those teams that will help if you have to play them again. I saw the kid from the Titans play last year in the national tournament and he does do everything for them. And, I saw him up close and personal at the opening ceremonies and you could tell in his face he was still very young and had a lot of maturing to do. The sky is the limit for the kid. Just curious, what were some of the other results in tournament, at least win-loss totals for the 6 teams.
  14. Tournament bracket results as follow: NKY Wolfpack 51, Lexington Blaze 19 Lincoln County 56, NKY Firehawks 42 Clark County 52, Fleming County 26 Louisville Storm 55, Harrison County 29 Wolfpack 49, NKY Flash 30 Lincoln County 64, South Oldham 61 Georgetown Thunder 59, Clark County 20 Louisville Storm 59, Pendleton County 44 Wolfpack 44, Lincoln County 30 Georgetown Thunder 49, Louisville Storm 36 Georgetown Thunder 46, Wolfpack 43 Notes: - Lincoln County's Cummins had 22 against South Oldham, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer to win the game. - Monroe scored 25 for Pendleton against the Storm. - In the championship game, Austin Crisp accounted for 13 of the Thunder's 15 4th quarter points (scored 11 on 3 3's and had a nice assist for another 2) - In the finals, Crisp, Portwood and Monroe all had 11 for the Thunder, while McGovney had 13, McClendon 10 and Brown 9 for the Wolfpack. For the basketball junkies out there, I hope you enjoyed my reports from the 13U division this weekend.
  15. Results from today's 13U tournament in Georgetown..... Pool A -- Flash went 3-0 in the pool, followed by Pendleton County, Clark County and Lexington Blaze. Nussbaum is playing on the Flash. Flash beat Clark County in OT after Clark County made only 1 of 2 FT's with 0.1 on the clock and down by 1, sending it to OT. Pool B -- South Oldham prevailed on a tiebreaker as them, Harrison County and the Firehawks all went 2-1 (Firehawks beat South Oldham, Harrison beat Firehawks and South Oldham beat Harrison). Fleming County finished 4th at 0-3. Pool C -- Georgetown Thunder won the pool at 3-0 (beat Lincoln County by 18 and Lou. Storm by 15 on Saturday after beating Wolfpack on Friday). Wolfpack, Lincoln and Storm all went 1-2 (Wolfpack beat Storm, Storm beat Lincoln, Lincoln beat Wolfpack). Wolfpack is the 2nd seed on tiebreaker, with Lincoln 3rd and Storm 4th. In tomorrow's tournament bracket, I would be surprised if the semifinal matchups aren't Wolfpack vs. Lincoln and Thunder vs. Storm, but upsets can always happen. For the Thunder today, they had a balanced attack against Lincoln with Richardson leading the way with 12, followed by Monroe (10), Young (9) and Crisp (7). Against the Storm, the Thunder led by 1 at the half, but dominated the second half behind Portwood, who had 15 of his 21 after halftime. Richardson added 14 and Monroe had 8. Other notes from 13U pool play: - Lincoln outscored the Wolfpack 16-3 in the final quarter to win by 8. - Monroe had 28, 26 and 14 during pool play while playing with Pendleton. He is playing with both his school team (Pendleton) and the Thunder in the tournament. - Flash won 3 games by a total of 6 points. - Goral from the Storm had 23 in the victory over Lincoln.
  16. Results from tonight's 13U in Georgetown. Clark County 44, Lexington Blaze 22 Georgetown Thunder 53, NKY Wolfpack 49 Harrison County 51, Fleming County 31 NKY Flash 43, Pendleton County 42 Richardson led the way for the Thunder tonight with 28 points, while McGovney had 19 for the Wolfpack. Landen Young -- Georgetown Middle 7th grader -- had 12 huge second half points, including a couple of 3's. He was a big reason the Thunder prevailed.
  17. Friday and Saturday's game for the Firehawks (which I believe are 13U) is at the Cunningham Center on Georgetown Rd just across the Scott County borded in Fayette County. From NKY, take I-75 South to the Horse Park exit (don't know the exit number, but it is the first exit after the 2 Georgetown exits). Turn right at the end of the ramp, then left at the stop sign / flashing lights onto US25 / Georgetown Rd. Go a little over a mile and the Cunningham Center is on the left. It sits off the road a little just before an old hotel named Sunset. If you get to the Sunset Motel, you have gone slightly too far. Sunday's games will be at Royal Spring Middle in Georgetown. You can get directions for that either Friday or Saturday.
  18. Agreed. But, everybody advances to Sunday, so pool play is kind of irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. If everybody didn't advance, you definitely wouldn't want your "perceived" top 4 teams in the same pool.
  19. No, LCCheer was asking about the Georgetown tournament, not any AAU tournaments. This is not online. Each team contact was sent a copy of the games and brackets. But, the pools for 13U are as follow: Pool A Clark Co Lexington Blaze Northern KY Flash Pendleton County Pool B Fleming Co 7th Harrison Co 7th Northern KY Firehawks South Oldham Pool C Georgetown Thunder Lincoln Co 7th Louisville Storm NKY Wolfpack 7th Everybody plays each other in their respective pools and all 12 teams come back Sunday for the single elimination tournament bracket.
  20. IMO all 4 teams in Pool C of the 13U (Thunder, Wolfpack, Louisville Storm and Lincoln County) have a chance to win the tournament. I haven't seen all 8 of the other teams play recently (so you never know with player movement), but these four mentioned above could very well be the semifinalist. I didn't get a chance to see Lincoln County play in state, but you have to be impressed with them making the Final 4. And, the Louisville Storm have made a couple of additions this year and I like their team. The other 2 have already been mentioned in previous posts. One thing for sure, by no means is tomorrow night's Wolfpack vs. Thunder game a definite preview of the finals. In youth basketball, there is only one guarantee -- there are NO guarantees.
  21. First of all, that would be great if NE KY play D1. I know their older team plays D1. Last year, they played D2. As far as the type of team, last year they were average but teams can change from year to year.
  22. I wouldn't think the field is strong because it is AAU state weekend. Here are the teams: Bracken Co. Thunder Clark Co. 4th Fleming Co. 4th Harrison Co. 4th Lincoln Co. Jammers Scott Co. Slammers Scott Co. Vipers
  23. A few 13U teams (and I am sure other age groups) actually had to turned away ). I think there is about 80 total teams playing in about every gym in Scott County and the Cunningham Center. BTW -- I don't think the Warriors were one that was turned but I could be wrong -- I do know they were invited in plenty of time even if they. But, in the defense of qryche11, I do believe he wanted the Warriors to come.
  24. You have to look at both E & F to know why the AAU approved this player... e. A team advancing to a Div. I National Championship may add a player from a roster of a team advancing to a Division II National Championship. (the team in question qualified for D1 but did not ADVANCE. f. A team advancing to a Div. II National Championship may not add any player from a team that has qualified for a Division I National Championship in the same age group. (Since this player's main team ADVANCED to D2, he could play up in D1 and also with his team.) I won't debate these rules leave a lot of grey area. Bottom line, if there is a team that plays D1 this year and QUALIFIES for nationals but decides not to go, any player off that team would not be eligible to play D2 on another team, only D1 on another team. The matter becomes even more grey when they allow teams to play D1 state (and qualify for D1 nationals) and then D2 nationals. 2 of the 12U teams in KY last year that played D1 state went to D2 nationals. Anybody else have a headache!
