Not to make excuses, but a good portion of Covington Catholics losses on the JV level have been while a good portion of the team was with varsity. Various players moved up to sit the bench and do little more then courtesy run with the varsity leaving their JV team extremely depleted. On any given night the JV Colonels may be playing without 5 or 6 of their usual starters, but when they are at full strength they will be a tough team to beat.
We (CovCath) came pretty close to beating X. Highlands beat us twice. from what i saw Highlands would dominate X's Defense. I don't know too much about T but I'm pretty sure they lost to X in the regular season, didn't they?
In one of the last games of the season Travis knocked a kid from Raiders out cold. After that the league would not let any of the kids in the NKYFL play if they were over the age limit. I think Newport had 3 or 4 kids overage, but they were allowed to play because they only had about 14 kids on the team.
CovCath? Down year? It won't surprise me if they win state this year. All they have to do is beat highlands, and with everybody back from injury that's a very good chance.
But i don't expect CCH to win. If they get out injury free and continue to improve it will be a good experience.
The pit is at Cincy Elder has a great atmosphere. IMO St X (oh) is the most impressive. They can honestly say that they have a nosebleed section because the top row is about 7 stories high.
But nothing beats playing, and winning, at Highlands.
CovCath is by far the team to beat. All they lost from last year was Kurt Bovard, And Todd Jacobs. They had strong J.V., and frosh teams last season and will have a lot of depth. The only question is will they be physical enough on the inside.
