  1. St X

Defeated 3 state champions, defeated Manual twice (top 5), also Ballard, PRP, and Male ( top 10). All non-district opponents made the 2nd round of playoffs.

I'm the biggest Central fan on here and I would agree that St. X played the toughest schedule, however Louisville Central should not be far behind. They played the 5A State Champions and 6A Runner-ups.

Central and Trinity who was the third?

  2. Found out my answer. Talked with Coach today. St. X called Central with the invite. St. X's coach and AD were the two spear heads on this one. I respect St. X and wish them nothing but the best for the years to come. Sorry that they did not beat Trinity. That would have been special. Maybe one day Central can repay the hospitality. Thank you Mike Glaser.

  4. ftbll4life,

How about filling all of us Belfry people in on Central a bit? Who are the players to watch? Who have been stpping up lately in this playoff run? What do you feel Central's strengths will be against Belfry?

Paduach had 44 rushing attemps for only 88 yards. This defense is big, strong, and fast. I went to watch them practice last we and stood and talked with Rich Brooks. Would not say who he was looking at, but stayed down on the defensive end of the field.

  5. I'm rooting for the Yellowjackets for several reasons:

    1) This school NEEDS this win. They NEED this for several reasons, not the least of which is very first State Championship.

    2) Fan Support for Central: I think that fans of teams that Central traveled to are going to be SHOCKED by the number of fans Central will have at the State game. Johnson Central is a LONG way for many families without transportation or means to drive. Papa John's is right near their neighborhood. They'll be there. BTW...Love their band and drumline. Looking foward to seeing them at this game.

    3) These boys are competitive. They've played (almost inarguably) the toughest schedule in the state in any class. As another poster mentioned, this is paying off.

    4) Even if Belfry does win, which on paper seems likely, I don't think Belfry will "name the score". I think that the Belfry team is aware that this isn't a Yellowjacket team driving 5-6 hours to play that night. For those of you who saw Lou Central play Johnson Central, I think you'll see a different team in Papa John's than was at Johnson Central.

    5) Lastly, I could not be happier for this inner-city school with some of the most challenging obstacles facing ANY school in Kentucky! These kids, their families, they deserve this. I think it's a HUGE testament to Coach Scroggins and his staff for what he's done in a relatively short time with the program @ Central.

    GO CENTRAL!

I'm a HUGE Central Fan. Great post TB. I'm glad to read that there are a lot of Belfry fans that love to talk about their team. I can tell you that the few Central fans that there are, they are not interested in getting on here reading these post.

This will be a great game and Belfry will in no way be able to name the score of this game. Central's team will not just lay down and let Belfry do anything they want. This is a different team that lined up against Johnson Central. The majority of the people on here that has seen them play is the FTH fans. They will agree that this team should not be taken as lightly as all of the Belfry fans are.

Belfry fans, I would not go out and buy those 2007 state championship shirts just yet. Central will be ready. As far as the fan support, everyone will be shocked with how many people shows up for support of the Central game. At least that is my assumption. With this being Central's first apperance in a State game, I expect all of the alumni and the people of the West End to show up. I also, believe there will be a few new fans cheering them on from FTH. I will stay around and cheer them on in the 5A game.

    Go YellowJackets and Bluebirds.

  6. I watched Central give Highlands, a 5A team, all they wanted and more. I believe that Central has the talent and a great coaching staff to win state this year. I just wish that they would have more fan support. It was sad to only see about 20 people in the stands at that beautiful new stadium.

I agree with you BigBird. I'm a Central fan and was at that game. They played the Regional Final last week with just a handful more fans than the FT game. I am disappointed in crowd turnout and hope, (wish), they would get behind this team. They're going to need everyone possible to make the trip to PT.

BigBird, if they make it to the State Finals ask all the FT fans to show up early to help this team on. I knew sitting up their in those stands, I was watching two state teams play five weeks early.

  7. Russellville doesn't have the talent/depth/number of students to be playing Class 3A football. Good year for the Panthers but obviously Central was the heavy favorite and they prevailed.

They have the talent. Their depth was one of the factors that beat them. Their depth showed when that RB breaks for an 85 Yard KOR and then has to defend Central. Russellville, gave Central all they wanted tonight. 14-14 at the half.

#18 for Central, (3 TD's), is a player. His speed and #5 speed was too much for Russellville #25 at Corner. I read that he was a freshman, it kinda showed tonight, but he is going to be a good one. Great Season Russellville and Good Luck Central in the Final 4.

  8. Belfry better worry about Breathitt or Russell before Central.

Central has a pretty smooth trip, they will maul thier two district opponents, then will be at "the hive" to host probably Russellville, who I think will push Central, but not too hard. Then they will likely have to travel to Tilghman, a rough, long trip for sure, but they advance.

I'd give Central an even chance against Belfry (or Breathitt/Russell) in Papa John's.

Every game in the playoffs for Central will be played at The HIVE. Tilghman must make that long trip, if they both make it that far. I hope they play everyone like they did against HHS and St.X (for a 1/2). #54 Cobble is my pick for All-State. He is the best DT in the city of Louisville, maybe the State.

  9. The resounding gossip amongst the EKY radio personalities was baout how Lou. central had no problem accepting the JC/Woodford game film, but but never traded film with the Eagles?

If there is one thing I know, it's NEVER give Matney a reason to put a chip on his team's shoulder. Also, refusing to trade tapes is a quick way to lose respect for a program that is striving to gain it.

Very good win for JC, against a team with lots of SPEED.

Johnson Central did in fact have there way with Louisville Central. They were the better team Friday night, LC just did not show up to play. Congrats to JC. For all readers talking about the film trade........It's true that LC did get a film from Woodford County. I think both coaches from LC and WC know each other. From what Coach Scroggins told me, JC never tried to exchange film. I can assure you there was no refusing to trade tapes. Scroggins' has to much class for that.

  10. I have to say I think Central plays the roughest schedule of the 3A's. Manual #3 Male #5 X #1 and Highlands #1(5A)... I think this years Central team has the stuff to do it. But maybe the coaches don't?

Are you saying the Central Coaching staff can not coach a State Championship team? How do you come to this assumption? I know that Coach Scroggins has put together one of the finer coaching staffs in the county. This group knows the game and can coach the game. I know they coached a great game against Manual, which Manual went ahead in the last seconds of the game. They sure did know how to coach against a Top 10 team in 3A. I believe the score was 59-21. Give this coaching staff some credit.

  11. Do you not think that Central has speed? Central will match speed with speed when it comes to the skilled positions. Central will be faster up front with the big boys. This will not be an easy game for Male. Male's speed beats a lot of teams but not Central. They will have to beat Central with something else beside speed.
